| I refrained from mentioning that I considered the situation more as him being MY human, rather than the other way around. Once he had left me, I laid back on the bed, my gaze lingering over the ceiling. My vision swam as memories took hold; memories of when I reigned, the feeling of the iron shackles wrapped around my wrists as I was cursed into submission, the feel of the cold stone being placed over my chest as it swallowed me whole. A name sprung to my lips, but I swallowed it down, the memory of the ally that betrayed me leaving me feeling empty. My eyes flew open, and I was surprised to see morning sunlight was already filtering in through the curtains. Several hours must have passed, and I would have guessed it was around 8am. I blinked slowly, shaking off the memories. I was surprised to find tears streaked my cheeks, and I impatiently brushed them away, sitting upright in the bed. |

| When light streamed into my window between the blinds I woke. A quick check of my clock and it read 7:36 am. I let out a soft breath and moved off towards a shower. Ten minutes later I was showered and dressed. Another ten minutes later and I was in the kitchen making pancakes. | |

| If I gave humans props for anything, it was the fact that they had domesticated running water. I quickly showered and changed my clothes from the previous day, favoring hip hugging jeans and a simple shirt. I forced myself to not think too deeply about the memories as I ran a hand through my wet hair, my locks instantaneously becoming dry and silky. Leaving my room, I could smell something coming from the kitchen, and within second/, I was there, watching Devon cooking what I knew to be pancakes. "Did you get the rest you were looking for?" |

| "Mostly." I replied, looking up after flipping the next pancake. "Plates are in the cabinet over there." With a nod of my head towards the cabinet in question. I had slept hard and dreamless after her coming to join me at my place. It hadn't been too terribly restful, at least not enough to make up for my nightmare but it worked. | |

| I nodded, following his direction and taking the plates down from the cabinet. Holding them gently in my hands, I returned to his side, setting them down quietly on the counter. "We have much to speak of today, mostly pertaining to your family..." my voice was soft spoken, my gaze downward towards the pancakes. As per our contract, though I held the ability to learn of anything in this world, I would be unable to understand what would be needed for service unless he told me. It was a frustrating rule that I had never been happy with, but I suppose it worked to force both members of the contract to communicate much more. |

| I finished making the last pancake before I spoke. "That...will take some explaining. Some parts of my family can be ignored, too young or too old to really make a claim or a play for power. Most notable people to watch for are my Uncle, my Father, and my Cousin. They are the biggest players either by power, support, or willingness to do anything." | |

| I shrugged, "Those who are not players can still be used as pawns. Just gives me the names of your immediate family, and a little about him. Tell me about your grandfather too." |

| I listed off my family and things about each of them. My mother Sarah and her obsession with cooking. My father Michael and his quest for power. My little sister Anna who was seven and knew nothing of this fight. My uncle Adam and his desire for power, wealth, and his ambition that would destroy anyone who got in his way. My aunt Kelly, Adam's wife. Stupid, slutty, slept around and even tried to sleep within the family. I listed off the rest of my immediate family, like the cousin twins, the female of which desired money and acted innocent.
I made my plate of food and sat at the table, starting in slowly before I explained my grandfather. He was a military man, not afraid to do what he had too to prove a point. He was hard on everyone, expecting the best. But he was willing to forgive if you worked for it. He built his company from the ground up and it had a lot of different groups for it. From weapons, food, clothing, you name it they had a part of it. | |

| I listened carefully as I sat across from him, once in a while nodding thoughtfully. Mostly, though, I was already calculating. I also felt a bit of respect towards the grandfather. He seemed like a great man, compared to most humans I knew of. With a start, I realized that I was in the position to bring Devon to that place. But would he be as great as the man he had just described to me? "What does your grandfather think towards your father? And to you?" |

| I didn't answer at first a soft sigh escaping me as I picked at my pancakes. "My father would be the favored child of my grandfather. He tried to mold my father and my uncle, but it took differently. My father tries to be respectable." I took another bite of pancake eating it slowly. When my mouth was free I rolled my shoulders. "Out of everyone in my family I was the only one who joined the military. My grandfather pulled strings to get me through the ranks quickly. When I visited him before I left for overseas...he told me he was proud of me. Prouder than he had ever been about anyone. When I came back and was in the hospital he visited and just put a hand on my shoulder and whispered, 'you did your job soldier. No more fighting you hear?' So I don't really know." | |

| I nodded thoughtfully, "Interesting, I would not have pegged your grandfather to do something of that sort. But now my final question..." I looked up at him, my gaze intently focused. For I moment I held his gaze, then I smirked softly, "What kind of woman is your grandfather fond of?" |

| I was in the middle of taking a drink of water when she dropped that question on me. I choked on my water as I started laughing hard. When I could breath again I shook my head, "What kind of woman? My grandmother. He hasn't seemed to hold any interest in anyone romantically since her passing. But I would almost do anything to see you try. I'm sure he would enjoy the experience." | |

| I rolled my eyes, "Not for him personally. I need something to mirror myself off of, to best draw the competition. I figured your grandfather would prefer to trust and appreciate someone similar to his wife." I sat back, crossing on leg over the other, "Then again, my contract is with you... What kind of woman do you think would work best?" |

| I considered her words, and realized she did have an excellent point. If I could be seen courting or interacting with a woman like grandmother...it might help turn things in my favor just a little. "Not a bad idea actually, a little worry some how sharp a demon is." I mused out loud before doing my best to explain my grandmother. She was a sweet person, smiles and sunshine. But she was also a fireball, with sarcasm and wit to put many guys to shame or struggling to keep up. The company probably did as well as it did entirely because of her intellect. | |

| "We only need to be more clever than humans, and it is not a difficult action." I replied smugly before remaining quiet, nodding thoughtfully at each description of his grandmother. Despite my lack of appreciation towards humans, she did seem a rather admiral specimen, as far as the species go. I would enjoy molding myself after her. After he was finished, I asked quietly, "how did she pass?" |

| I grew quiet at that. "Cancer, it wasn't pretty or easy on her. But she was cheerful and cracking jokes even to the end." I rubbed my hands together and then stood. | |
