The Creation of the Perfect Assassins

((I’m not telling! You’ll see. I’ll start it once James gets there.))

Kyle:

“Lovely.” I said as I shoved the covers off and got to my feet. “Get out, I’m getting dressed.” I said to the girls as I dug out a change of clothes from my back pack and peeled off the white cotton shirt that I wore with plaid pajama pants.

Krissy:

“I yawned and stood up as well. “Yeah, I’m going to go take a shower.” I said as I left.

Lexi nodded and followed Krissy out, refusing to look back at Kyle who she was sure was taking his shirt off from the sounds behind her.

Kyle:

I came out a few minutes later in a black t shirt and jeans. I could hear the shower running as I made my way downstairs. Stopping in front of a wall mirror in the living room, I tried to smooth my hair down so it didn’t stick up so much from sleeping.

Lexi was in the kitchen, carving her knife on a sharpening stone she had picked up somewhere. She really liked it but hated the sound it made when she sharpened her knife but it was necessary.

Kyle:

I finished unsuccessfully with my hair and made my way into the kitchen. “Hey kiddo, have you eaten?” I asked as I passed her on my way to the refrigerator.

Kiddo? Really? Lexi thought, fighting the urge to roll her eyes. "A pop-tart and an apple, but that's about it," she replied, putting down the sharpening stone and sheathing her knife.

Kyle:

I closed the fridge door. “When did we get pop tarts?” I demanded looking for the box.

"Oh. Right. Um... I picked them up yesterday...around...11-ish? When you were out," Lexi said, taking them out of her backpack and tossing him the box of brown sugar cinammon. "I have strawberry too."

Kyle:

“I like strawberry better.” I said as I caught the box.

I got there about 30 minutes after i hung up the phone. I pulled into the drive and got out of the car, heading to the door

"Then eat them," Lexi tossed him the other box and smiled. She was surprised that he wasn't mad at her for sneaking out.

Kyle:

I ate and entire pop-tart before what she said sunk in. “Wait- you left here? While I was gone?”

"While you were asleep," Lexi corrected, eating her pop-tart nonchalantly.

Kyle:

I frowned and leaned back against the counter with my arms crossed. “Lexi…” I said my tone disapproving. “We talked about this before. I don’t like you disappearing without telling me where you’re going. It makes it hard to trust you.”

"I was just getting pop-tarts..." Lexi whined without meaning to. She was only thirteen, soon to be fourteen but still. "I was sick of granola bars and stuff and I didn't want to ask you to do it since I was probably the only one that wanted them so I got them myself."

Kyle:

“You can ask me to get anything you need, Lexi, I don’t mind. What I do mind is you sneaking off without telling me.” I said firmly.

I knocked on the door, waiting for someone to unlock it

Krissy:

I went downstairs fully dressed but with a towel wrapped around my wet hair. I went over to the door and swung it open with a grin. “Hey!” I said happily.

"Hey, Kid" i say teasingly. "Sorry we all got split up.' i walked in and closed the door. "what has everyone been doing"

Lexi nodded, looking at him. "It's been a few months. When are you going to start trusting me? I haven't tried anything and I've been on my best behavior. It's been hell. I hate being an angel. It's not who I am anymore." she grumbled, mostly to herself.

Kyle:

“I do trust you, Lexi. Only part of the reason I don’t want you leaving is because it looks suspicious. The other part is I don’t want you getting hurt or snatched, if you don’t tell me where you’re going then if you do disappear I won’t know if you’ve left or if you’ve been taken.” I explained, softening my tone.

Krissy:

“You know, just lying low. We’ve been moving from house to house. Kyle doesn’t like staying in one place. He says this way is harder to track. But we’ve been in this house for almost a week. I doubt we’ll be staying much longer.” I said.

"He has a point. Moving around keeps it harder for people to track you." i nodded and looked around. "how did you get this place? family on vacation?"

Krissy:  

I shrugged.  "I guess so.  Ask Kyle, he's the one who found it."  I said.

"I...I know. I'm sorry. You just make me feel more like a prisoner than a friend sometimes..." Lexi replied softly, looking down at her sneakers.

Kyle:  

I sighed.  "I don't want to trap you, I just want you to be safe." I said softly and reached out and squeezed her shoulder lightly.
