Perfect School

Jonah:

I raised an eyebrow. “What kind of game?” I asked curiously. Kira was not known for her playful side. Whatever she said I would agree to it, this was not a chance I would pass up.

"A competition. I don't care about winning for the school. You and I both work for Marie and so the school does not matter. How about a game then. Who can do better within the tournament. But games have rewards yes? Winner gets to ask what ever they wish from the other." I released his wrist and met his gaze.

Jonah:

The moment she released my wrist I raised my hand out to hers. “Deal.” I met her gaze with a twinkle in my eyes.

A faint smirk came to my lips. Perhaps it was the exhaustion talking but the smirk remained as I shook his hand. It faded after I let go of his hand and as I moved back to join the others I was as emotionless as I normally was.

Jonah:

I watched her from behind for a moment. If she hadn't given the incentive she had, she would have had a fair chance of beating me. But she had said I could ask anything I wanted of her. I knew that didn't mean "anything”, but it was a favor none the less.

I followed her to the table and took my seat next to Emily. I told the group about the competition and that Kira and I wouldn't be joining them in class for the next week or so.

“Really? That sounds amazing! You two are totally going to win by a landslide! How fun! Colarado too! Wow!” Kyra was the most enthusiastic, which made up for the stone cold look that came onto Emily's face when she heard the news.

I kept my eyes on my food, no longer interested in it but I kept eating anyway. After I ate half of what remained I got up and walked out leaving my tray behind with only a quiet good bye to the others.

Jonah:

I wanted to follow her, but instead I stayed at the table. I told them what they should work on while we were gone, that I expected them to continue meeting as a group even without me. Kyra was to help her brother and Emily was to help Paublo if they needed it. After we finished I spent the remainder of the free time with Emily. She was clearly not in a good mood and I was attempting to lighten her up.

Kira:

I went to my room first, placing a call to Marie to inform her of the competition before pulling on a tank top and sports bra as well as tight shorts. I pulled on sneakers and moved off to the gym the team had started to frequent in training. I took the time to turn on music before I sat on a chair and began wrapping up my hands so I could go a round with the bags.

Jonah:


Even with Emily's sullenness I was happy; I was looking forward to the competition. I spent the day mostly relaxing my body and going through every scenario in my head of what we might be required to do in the competition. I told Kira that she didn't have to come to the group meeting, that I wanted to see how they would do with little instruction. For most of the period I just watched them work. I gave them a few more pointers before I let them go. Emily waiting in the gym with me until I sent her away for the private practice session with Kira.

I had spent my time alone, working out and destressing myself from the compitition. I wasn't worried how I would do, or how I would perform. I would do my best as always. But it always set my pulse racing when I could finally use my skills instead of just repeat them endlessly. A part of me wondered just what the black out periods meant, and if one would show up at the competition.

Jonah:

The next couple of days went by quickly. I focused on brushing up on skills that I had not practiced in a while and resting my mind and body in the evening. The next practice session I watched, but I didn't give any corrections until the end of the session. They impressed me by how well they did on their own.

Kira and I each packed a bag to take to on the trip and the school provided us with an additional bag for the two of us with extra clothing that we didn't have. The two of us along with an instructor for the school were taken to the airport early in the morning. We had business class seats, Kira and I were seated together, and the instructor was a row in front of us.

“I've never been on a plane before.” I told Kira, who was sitting in the aisle seat. I had been more talkative than normal from excitement for the trip. I had supplied the conversations since Kira was not known for chit chat. “When I was taken to the school there was a documentation issue. I was a foster child and the school essentially bought me. The legal documents were acquired later.” I was looking out the window at the people loading the luggage and talking quietly so no one else would hear. I knew she would be listening.

“The school owns me. Or they did. I suppose the guardianship would have been transferred to Marie by now. She owns the both of us.” I was thinking allowed, something I didn't often do, and there was only one person I did it with. I turned to look at her with a smile quirking the side of my mouth. “I guess that would make us adoptive siblings.”

"Planes are easy. Just don't dwell on the idea of what you are on and how it can fail." I settled into the seat with a yawn, slouching slightly. I had come dressed in as much of my combat outfit as possible. I let him drone on, mostly letting it all pass into my head and filter away for later. But my eyes opened when he called us adoptive siblings.

"We are not siblings. Adoptive or otherwise." The words were tossed out in a rush along with a faint worried frown. In the end I settled back down and shook my head. I turned my face to the window in thought as my lips moved. "I am a tool to be used. You perhaps will have purpose under Marie. But yes...she does own us. Perform well. Impress her. And your wishes will come true. It's as simple as that with her."

The plane started to take off and I watched out the window as we were pressed back into our seats and the city disappeared below us. "I will say this much. Under Marie, we would be up front in the nicer seats. But this is a school trip. I'm sorry your first time isn't in style." My eyes closed and I didn't say anything more. Eventually I drifted off to sleep, my head slipping down the seat to land on his shoulder with a gentle bump.

Jonah:

When her head hit my shoulder I was surprised but knew she must be asleep.  Kira was not that intimate of a person.  I let her sleep for the next few hours while I watched out the window.  The view was amazing, and I was utterly mesmerized during the whole flight.  I needed no other entertainment than my own thoughts while watching the land far below.  

I wondered why Kira had a negative reaction to my comment about being siblings.  She was the most confusing person I had ever met.  Usually I could read a person with ease, or at least eventually get in their head enough to understand them.  While I understood Kira better than anyone else at the school, there was still so much I couldn't read about her.  

I knew she didn't have feelings of attraction toward me or anyone else at this time.  I knew he loyalty was fully with Marie, even with our close relationship.  But I hoped she saw me at least somewhat as a friend even if she didn't believe in it.  

At the tail end of three hours I nudged the seemingly frail sleeping girl next to me.  “We're about to land.”  I murmured.

Slowly I stirred, eyes opening to blink up at him. "Okay." I murmured before yawning. For a few minutes as the plane began it's descent I stayed slightly leaning against him, emotions showing on my face as I worked on waking up. I yawned one more time and as the wheels touched down I stretched and my face cleared of emotions again.

Jonah:

I watched her as she shook the grogginess, it was interesting the way her face changed from sleepy to awake and alert.  Maybe she wasn't so cold on the inside, it could be an act.  She was a good actress, so much so that she believed it herself.  

“You missed a great view, the sun was rising over the clouds.  Everything was pink and orange.”  I told her with a warm smile.

"A great view hm?" I glanced out at the city we had landed at. "Shame. But we will have another chance at it when we leave." I stretched lightly as I kept my eyes out the window beside him.

Jonah:

The car ride was uneventful, but the resort we would be staying at was extravagant. We had our own cabing for the three of us: The teacher, Kira, and I. There were several cabins, but from the windows, you couldn't see the others due to brush and tree coverage. I assumed the other kids in the competition were each staying in one of their own.

I gave a slightly approving eye around the resort. This was what I was used to staying in when I worked and trained under Marie. I picked a bedroom in the corner. The teacher took the master while Jonah would have the one beside mine. Our bathroom was across from me with a large tubbed shower. I only gave the room a once over before going out to the living room to ask the teacher where the rest of our gear was. Flying with a bag full of weapons was next to impossible in America.

Jonah:

I left Kira inside to go out into the fresh air.  It was a warmer here than it was back home and there was a soft breeze.  I shed my light jacket and laid down in the clean grass, looking up at the blue sky.  I could hear the two of them talking in the cabin.  The teacher dealt with Kira, getting her gear to her and asking if she wanted anything else.  I sighed, that girl never took a moment to relax unless she had to.  It was like she wasn't comfortable with herself unless she was training.

Kira:

Once I had my gear in my possession I stowed it too in my room. From my pocket I drew out a slim silver phone, tapping my thumb on the screen absently. "No. Marie should already know we landed and where." I murmured to myself. Slipping the phone back into my pocket I glanced out the window. I had a perfect view of Jonah laying out in the sun. My eyes roamed his form absently until I yanked them away. It wasn't the time or place for that.

A gentle rumble from her stomach finally set me moving again. I dug through my suitcase, changing into a simple sundress along with flats. Checking my appearance briefly I went to the teacher, telling him my plan before I moved to Jonah, standing so I was blocking his light. "Come on. You are taking me to get food."

Jonah:

My eyes were closed as I heard her walk up to me, but I didn't open them until she blocked the light. She was back-lit which made her dress sheer enough that I could see the outline of her body. I had seen her in skin tight clothing many times, but something about seeing it with an out line of a dress was pleasing.

I propped myself up on my elbow with an amused smile. “Am I? And should I dress up to match you?” I asked, I was wearing slacks and a light gray tank top. Not as fancy as dress.

"Dress up? If you hurry. This is camouflage. Do what you will.". I stepped out of the path of light as I finished. I clasped my hands behind myself, turning my face up to the sun to enjoy the warmth.

Jonah:

I grinned at her before hopping up to my feet and retrieving my jacket. I pulled it on over my tank top but left it open. I gestured for her to lead the way. “I like where your mind is Kira, but you know a shark doesn't need camouflage in a sea of fish.” I leaned down to say it close to her ear. My excited mood had worn down to a playful one.

My lips twitched slightly in a faint smirk. And with his head to close i reached up to grab his ear to hold him there. "You don't know how the best predators work then.". I tried with a faint purr in my voice. I dug my fingers into the pressure point behind his ear for a brief moment to emphasize my point then released him so I could brush my dress off absently.

When i finished I started down the path, moving towards the resort.

Jonah:

I chuckled and followed after her like a puppy. She truly was incredible and fascinating, not to mention she looked great in a dress.

There were no rooms in the main building of the resort, there were only cabins. We passed a massive pool on our way there, and several small hot tubs scattered around it. In the lobby there was a restaurant with a bar and a small store next to it for things to take back to the cabin. I looked around the large room. Not too many people were out, it was almost empty except for staff.

It was unlikely that there were any guests here that weren't part of the event. “Do you want to get something in the restaurant or take something back?” I asked her while scoping out the area.
