University Roommates (Restart)

Ashton:

I barely restrained an amused smile. "The machine," I nodded over to it, then with one more glance over her I walked over to do the settings. "I'm going to set it for slow since you clearly haven't done this before."

Emily:
I rolled my eyes. "Oh please, I can handle hitting a ball," I told him. I stood pretty straight, my arms bent stiff and awkwardly. "Tell me when you're ready" I said.

Ashton:

"Go for it." I started the machine then hurried to the corner behind her to be out of the way. It was cute how awkward she was with it.

Emily:
So far, the machine had thrown about five or six balls at me and I dont know what his definition of 'slow' was but this certainly wasn't it. I huffed and stepped back, turning to frown at him. "You set it up wrong," I accused, daring him to even smirk at how bad I was at this.

Ashton:

I my hand folded into a fist with my thumbnail between my teeth as I watched her. my eyebrows went up at her accusation. "Did I?" I walked over to the machine. "Weird, it wont move past the slowest setting, no matter how hard I push it." I glanced at her with a smirk. I put my helmet on and walked over to her. "Let me try, see if its messed up," I said, holding my hand out for the bat.

Emily:
I rolled my eyes again and handed him the bat. "Oh shut up," I mumbled, pressing the bat into his hands. I walked over to where he had waited, out of the way and pouted, leaning back against the wall.

Ashton:

I hit every single ball it spit out at me, after it emptied, I refilled it and set it to a higher setting and moved back for those, I missed a couple on that setting, but it felt good to swing something as hard as I could. It felt good to use my muscles.

Emily:
I let him have his fun with the bat and minded my own business against the wall. I took my helmet off and swung it around and then tried to mimic his position to see what I was doing wrong. He looked way less stiff then I did. And his arm was bent more than mine was.

Ashton:

I returned to her with an unconscious, happy smile after I finished the last round. "Want to try again?" I asked, holding the bat out for her. "I'll set it back to the slowest slow it goes." I grinned.

Emily:
"Fine, i'll try again," I said, taking the bat from him. "But make sure its actually slow this time," I said, walking back over to where the balls would shoot, keeping up the ruse that he had screwed up the machine.

Ashton:

I started giving her little pointers here and there. By the end of the hour she was getting better, so I got us another hour in the cage and we took turns. I started enjoying helping her more than I did swinging the bat myself.

Emily:
When I hit the ball the first time, I got slightly overly excited. And after that, I starting seeing the appeal to this game. There was something about hitting things as hard as you could that was incredibly exhilarating. "Hey," I said, taking off my helmet. "I think I'm reading for a faster set-" I stopped when a ball came shooting out of the machine and hit me right in the forehead about my right eye. "Ow!" I said, dropping the helmet and holding me hands over my forehead.

Ashton:

"Aw, shit," I said as I yanked her out of the line of fire. I took her out of the batting cage and sat her down on a bench. "I'm going to get ice, just sit here." I ran off to the concession stand and asked for a plastic bag of ice and some paper towels. I rapped the bag and returned to Emily.

"Here." I sat down next to her an, moving her hands away, I pressed the ice pack to her forehead.

Emily:
I hissed when he placed the ice on my head and then relaxed. "That was a sign to not try the faster setting..." I mumbled, squinting at him. "I really sucked at that..."

Ashton:

"I think it was more a sign that you shouldn't take your helmet off," I replied. "How does your head feel? If you think you might have a concussion then we might need to take you to the ER."

Emily:
I shook my head, making the room spin a little and pushed his hand away, taking the ice with it. "No, I don't need to go to the hospital, I'm fine," I said. I despised hospitals. Doctors looked for any reason to stick you with needles.

Ashton:

"Keep this on it or you're going to have one hell of a bruise. Probably will anyway." I pushed the ice pack into her hands then leaned back to look at her. Sighing deeply I said, "If you have a headache or anything you need to go to the ER."

Emily:
"Of course I have a headache. I don't know if you noticed, but I got hit in the head with a baseball," I said, sarcastically. I pressed the ice back to my forehead and winced.

Ashton:

I ran my hand through my hair and watched her. “Okay, I'm taking you to the ER, your brain is probably bleeding out as we speak,” I said with a frown and moved to grab her arm to help her up.

Emily:
I planted myself firmly on the seat. "I'm not going to the hospital Ash." I said, sounding stern. "Its just a bump, relax," I said.

Ashton:

I sat back and stared at her flatly. I wasn't going to say a word. I couldn't make her go to the emergency room against her will, but maybe if I showed her how disappointed I was, she would give in.

Emily:
I frowned back at him. "Don't look at me like that..." I said. I shifted the ice against my head and again, winced at the soreness. "Its honestly not bad enough to warrant a hospital visit." I argued, even though he wasn't saying anything. "Really, Ash, stop looking at me..." I demanded. "FINE! Lets go to the stupid hospital!"

Ashton:

I sighed and helped her up and to the car, ignoring her grumbling. The hospital wasn't too far away. It was the middle of the day, not on the weekend, so the ER wasn't too packed. They still quoted us an hour before she would be seen and gave us a bunch of paper work to be filled out.

"How are you feeling?" I asked her once we were seated in the corner.

Emily:
"Mad at you for taking me to the hospital, thanks for asking," I said, propping the clip board that they had given me up so I could write. But when I looked at the paper, everything was blurry. I squinted, but it didn't help. And my head was throbbing. I clicked the pen open and tried writing my name very slowly.

Ashton:

Her name looked like a child had written it. "Give it here, I'll read it and put your answers down. All you'll have to do is sign." I took the clip board and pen from her and started reading the questions off the list.
