Zombies! (Open)

I took him into the room and laid him down. "Alright I'm going to undress you and bind your ribs I'm pretty sure they are cracked." I said before starting to lift his shirt. He grabbed my wrists immediately to stop me eyes wide and wild. "No!" They searched for a moment before settling on Kate. "Have her do it. Everyone else out, let her bind me. She has a child and so I wont do anything to harm her. But I can't trust any of you."

I frowned and opened my mouth to protest before sighing softly and looking to Kate. "What do you think? I'll be on the other side of the door. One scream or sound of something bad and I can be in here in an instant..."

Kate:

I looked over the boy and nodded. I was sure I could handle him if he tried to make a move. “I can do it. I’ll call if I need help.” I assured Everett but kept my eyes on the boy.

"Everyone out then." I said after looking to Kate with a soft smile. "Just bind his ribs and any other injuries. Make sure it is tight, I can give painkillers afterwards." I turned to the boy, "Be good." Was all I said before leaving the room and ushering everyone else out ahead of me.

Ari:

I watched them all leave before turning my eyes to the woman, defiance high in my eyes.

Kate:

I went to kneel at the side of the bed. I had dealt with many injured animals before so I decided that’s how I would treat him. We were all a little more animal than human in this world anyway.

“Don’t worry.” I said softly, not moving to touch him yet. “It’s okay. I’m not going to hurt you, I’m going to help you. I’m going to bandage your ribs so you can get better, once you’re better, we can let you go. This doesn’t have to be scary.” I spoke soothingly. “I’m going to touch you now, it might hurt while I’m working, but it’ll feel better once I’m done.” I reached out and placed my hand gently on his side. “What was your name again?”

"Ari...and are you really talking to me like I'm a child..." I asked as I watched her. I shook my head slowly exhaling softly. "Lets just get this over with..." I murmured as I grabbed the hem of my shirt and started to lift it over my head. I got it halfway before I shifted in the wrong way and released my top with a hiss. "Fuck me...."

Kate:

“I didn’t meant to talk to you like a child, I was a veterinary assistant… Let me help you with that-“ I said quickly helping him with the shirt then stopping abruptly when I saw what was underneath. “Oh,” I said softly, understanding why he- she had wanted everyone out.

I looked away once my shirt was off. "Came from the desert...its...chaos there. Being a woman is as good as being trash...hiding who you are...is better...and the only way to survive..."

Kate:

I nodded. “I understand. I won’t give you away, you have my word. Let’s just get you bandaged up then, and Everett can give you meds for the pain.” I grabed the bandage from Everett’s bag.

I lifted my arms and kept my face turned away. "Thank you..."

Kate:

“Of course.” I said softly working quickly. I didn’t say anything else, I didn’t want her to think I was demeaning her.

Once she was done I quickly pulled my shirt on, tugging it on while ignoring the pain with gritted teeth. I removed my cap ran a hand through my short hair before pulling it back on and tucking any loose strands inside that I could.

Kate:

I sat back on my heels and looked her over. "You should stay with us at least until you heal. We're good people, no one here would lay a hand on you." I told her seriously.

I snorted and hugged myself. "That is what they all say...you'll pardon me if I don't trust any of you...as soon as I can leave and not be eaten by the walking corpses I'm gone..."

Kate:

"Have they all also had a child with them? And another young girl your age? You need people to survive, sweetie. You can't do it alone forever." I told her softly before getting to my feet. "I'll let you think about that while you rest."

I didn't comment, I only covered my eyes with my arm. "Fuck...fuck fuck fucking fuck..." I murmured to the ceiling.

Kate:

I heard her curses as I closed the door behind me but I didn't react to them. "How is he?" Emily asked as I took Elijah from her. "Tired and in pain." I answered.

Ari:

I slipped to a sitting position holding my ribs with one hand while I covered my face with the other.

Kate:

I tidied up the kitchen and set Elijah out on a blanket on the floor. Then with the help of Emily I went about blocking out the two windows in the kitchen so we could light lamps in the evening without attracting attention. The boys brought in a few of our supplies from the car while we worked.

Ari:

I left the bedroom after a while, holding an arm around my ribs as I watched them work. Eventually I let out a soft breath and pulled my cap lower before going over to offer some help.

Kate:

“No, sit down. Just rest yourself. We’re just about done here anyway.” I told her, pulling out a chair for her to sit down at the table. Emily kept eyeing her as she finished up.

I frowned at that but I settled into the chair anyway, my eyes dropping to the floor as I held onto my ribs. "Fine."

Emily:

I sat down at the table while Kate lit the room with a couple lamps. “How are you feeling now? Did the meds my brother gave you help?” I asked him softly.

Ari:

I nodded. "Yeah...he and...she know their stuff..." I murmured looking around for a moment before looking the girl over.

Emily:

I leaned forward on the table without noticing. “How long have you been on your own? Did you lose your group?” I asked softly.

"Pretty much since birth. As for traveling alone, I work better alone. No one to stab you in the back then. And no, I escaped the last group I was a part of." I shuddered for a moment before shaking my head.
