"I don't even know which side of him I should encourage..." I admitted softly as I watched with her. The beast below managed to knock the sword from Talon's grasp but he simply drew another and kept fighting. "Do you wish to know how even among elves Savien is skilled?"

Rina:

“How?” I asked though my attention was more on Talon and the beast fighting, than his words.

"Look at him. When we fight and use our power that resides within the lines in our skin...it glows. His does not glow. I am one of the strongest we have. But I do not fight much with sword but with runes and spell. But even I...or the twins could match the beasts of the mists so easily without using some of our power." I said gesturing down into the arena and then to the twins who had taken up on either side of us with giant crossbows in hand.

Rina:

I looked at him with a frown. “Are you saying he isn’t using any magic to fight right now?” I asked in surprise.

"Not a drop." I repeated, lifting a hand to bring magic in it. Shaping it into a soft ball of light. The lines in my skin glowed faintly as I did so.

Rina:

“That’s ridiculous!” I said, annoyed. “So really he’s just playing out there.” I scowled at the arena, every ounce of worry gone.

"No. He really could die..." As if on cue the beast roared and swiped out with its paw, slapping Talon and sending him crashing into the wall across the Arena. The impact was enough that the solid stone walls cracked and crumbled as Talon impacted. "Never under estimate the creatures that live on this mountain. Power or not they are deadly. As for him playing...I think he may have been trying to put on a show for you. But also...this is just who Savien is...he plays the odds, he gambles with his life. Because I think...he feels he has nothing else he can really afford to bet anymore."

Rina:

"Thats ridiculous." I repeated in a murmurer still watching the fight with a frown.

"Is it? He gave up every part of him to become Talon. But when he fights. He can truly be himself. Nothing else can exist as he fights. Because if anything else exists...he could die." I remarked as I watched.

Rina:

“But if its dangerous he should use his power. Is it really worth his life?” I demanded, annoyed with Calan for condoning it.

I looked at her. "When he fights...he is free. What monster would I be if I took that away from him."

Rina:

I went over to sit on a stone bench. I had nothing left to say on the matter. I thought it was foolish to gamble with one’s life.

"I think there might be another reason why he does not use his powers....do you know of the cost for the power that resides in our skin?" I asked softly, still looking over the railing.

Rina:

“Yeah,” I said with a shrug. “You run out and you don’t havy any more until the next full moon.”

"Not that cost. How we got them to begin with." I said glancing in her direction.

Rina:

I was quite for a moment then nodded. “Yes. Ta- He told me… Yesterday.” I said softly, starting to get why he didn’t want to use his powers.

I nodded gently. "Do you understand why then?"

Rina:

“He doesn’t want to use his powers because his brother died to give them to him?” I looked up at Calan from the bench.

"Exactly. His brother died for it. Some might view it as a final gift. But I think for him if he uses it...he condones what happened to his brother." I let out a soft breath as I watched Talon go on the offensive against the creature again.

Rina:

“What do you think Talon would want?” I asked using the name to refer to his brother for the first time.

I let out a soft breath. "He would want him to be happy. To not care about the rule of leadership. To be himself and himself alone."

Rina:

I thought for a moment. “Is there anyone who could do it besides him?” I asked.

I considered if tor a moment. "I suppose...we have a counsel in effect that makes most major decisions when he is gone...and while he is here. But in times of war we need a lord...it's a difficult thing to really work out sometimes."

Rina:

“What happens if he does die though? Who’s next in line?” I asked. “Does he have a cousin? An uncle?... A son?” I added the last as an afterthought, what did I know? I had never actually asked…

I shook my head, "No. He is alone except for one other person. But she slumbers right now." I turned my eyes to her with faint amusement. "I do believe you were the first he ever had. So no. He has no children." I turned my eyes back down to the fight below. "The only family he has is his Mother."
