Perfect School

"A friend? Assassin's don-" I cut myself and shook my head, looking away. Assassin's don't have friends. "Fine. And they did step out of line, make sure you remember what the line is Jonah. I am tamer than most." I paused in the middle of the hallway and brushed a knuckle over the bruise, smearing some blood on it as I checked the tenderness. "I am going to get in trouble for this I imagine." It wasn't meant to be said to him, but I said it out loud.

Jonah:

“Of course you won’t. This is what you’re trained for. If someone tries to hurt you it’s only instinct to hurt them back. They’re the ones who will be punished I’m sure. You should go to the infirmary and get cleaned up.” I told her, nodding to her hands. “Maybe we can have our own practice session later, even without a teacher?” I asked, trying to keep my voice neutral.

"Our patron might. One rule hammered into me. 'Don't harm what belongs to the patron.' And I did harm what belongs to her. Punishment may come, but only from her. We'll see." I shrugged and looked down at my hands flexing them slightly. "I will take care of it myself. As for practice later....fine. Nine'o'clock in the usual spot." I looked up at him. "You want to know how I was made? I'll train you myself in the way I was trained." I focused ahead again though for a brief moment a ghost of a smile touched my lips.

Jonah:

I smiled. "Sounds intriguing. I'll see you later." I said as I turned to go back to the cafeteria with my waiting friends. I felt more drawn to Kira than any of them, but I was trying to loosen her up again, and that would be done better through multiple meetings that went well.

I watched him go for a moment before shaking my head and heading for my room to wrap my hands.

Paublo:

I tried to keep both girls entertained, but I focused more on Kyra than Emily. Emily was cute, but she was intense and she only seemed to ever have eyes for Jonah.

Zero:

I hummed softly as I glanced up at the screen on the wall. Still no messages. I didn't expect to see anything, but it never hurt to check it out.

Kyra:

I enjoyed talking with Paublo, but I also tried to bring Emily into the conversation. Her mood seemed to have soured slightly after Jonah left. My twin joined the table late, I assumed he had been in his room recuperating from traveling. He seemed happier than when we first arrived. I was glad to see it. His addition to the table stilled conversation. Andrew didn’t talk much with the others, and my attention was directed to him over the other two at the table.

Jonah:

I came back to a quiet table much to my distaste. I sat down again next to Emily and it took

her a moment to decide if she should be cold with me for leaving, or come closer. I felt her thigh touch mine and suppressed a smug smile. Kyra asked about Kira and I assured her that she was okay and it was only a minor training injury. Emily seemed amused that Kira had been injured. I didn’t like that.

Paublo:

I couldn't complain about the lull in conversations. Kyra and Andrew were really close, being siblings did that. So I wasn't bothered by Kyra ignoring me. I raised an eyebrow at Jonah when he returned, but I got the information I wanted anyway.

Kira:

I had my problem taken care of and I laid down in my room. A small annoying beep had me open my lap top to see a chat opened up. I chuckled and typed off a brief reply before closing the laptop once more. "Andrew took my advice then. Zero met him. Good."

Jonah:

I spent the rest of the day in Emily's company. I knew exactly what she was and what she wanted, but I went along with it. It would be a lie to say I wasn't attracted to her, and I respected her drive for power, even if I didn't agree with her methods. Besides, it was nice to have someone respond to my efforts though I would rather it have been Kira.

Kira:

I spun and twirled the knives in my hands. My eyes were closed and I let out a soft breath before tapping the button on the floor with my foot. I heard the clicking of the launchers as they all primed and began their timers. Each clay pigeon launcher was set to fire off a pigeon at random. My job. Break them.

Jonah:

Emily and I were tucked away in a corner, only few people were left in the common room. It was nearing time for me to leave for training with Kira when Emily moved over to me and sat on my lap. For the first time in a long time my brain stopped working. Thoughts of Kira and training were completely driven from my mind and didn’t return over the course of the next few hours.

I waited, and waited, and waited. But Jonah never came. I frowned as I gazed around the empty training room. I shook my head and pulled a phone out of my pocket. I had been intending on offering Jonah a reward if he had beaten me in this training session. But now...I could only call and offer up bad news.

"Marie. Jonah is a no show." I spoke evenly, without a thread of emotion in my voice. I started walking again, this time towards the common room but I paused in the doorway as in the corner. Jonah and Emily. Making out.

Emily was breathless when his lips left hers and moved down to her neck and collar bone. She was straddled in his lap on the love seat. They were the only two left out, if one of the teachers caught them they would be reprimanded. That’s what she thought was about to happen when a shadow moved in the entrance. Her lips curled into a smug smile when she realized it was not a teacher who saw them. She let out a soft moan, looking straight at Kira. She enjoyed what Jonah was doing, but she enjoyed it more that Kira saw, imagining that the other girl was jealous of her.

I lowered the phone slightly, my head cocking slightly at what I saw. "Seems he found another one to keep his time Madam." I said into the phone. "I know. I'll let him know." I closed the phone while keeping my eyes on them. In the end I only shook my head. "Teacher is on the way. Two minutes. I'd hurry."

Jonah:

I broke away from Emily’s neck with a soft sucking sound. Kira’s voice had brought me crashing back to reality. I realized Emily wasn’t even looking at me, and slid her off of my lap abruptly. I turned around to look at Kira realizing I had made a huge mistake, not a common thing for me.

Emily got up and forcibly turned my attention back to her with a hand at my jaw turning my face to kiss me soundly one last time. “Good night.” She said huskily, then passed Kira on her way to the girl’s rooms. There was a superior quality in the way she walked.

I followed Emily with my eyes before look at him. "Good night Jonah. I hope you enjoyed your evening."

Jonah:

It was impossible to read her though I was sure the enjoying my night was a snide comment. Was she jealous? Was she angry? Could she care less? Anyone else I would have been able to tell, but she just looked at me with cold eyes. “Good night Kira.” I said simply. If it had been a real practice I would have been in trouble, but surely there would be no consequences when there was no teacher for us? Only Kira’s continued cold personality.

"Oh before you go Jonah...Marie isn't happy. All trainings, no matter who runs them should be gone too. You failed in that regard." I turned to go but paused in the entrance to the hallway. "I must admit. I'm disappointed too."

Jonah:

I let her go without another word. That night I stayed awake thinking about it. How had I been so stupid? That was not like me. I didn’t realize I could be caught up and distracted like that. I knew power of seduction was a tool often used, but I didn’t realize I wouldn’t be able think through it. I was just caught off guard because I had never done anything like it before. It wouldn’t happen again. I wanted to do it again, and more, but I wouldn’t let it get in the way of my training.

I didn't dwell on it, I simply pushed it out of my head and laid in bed. But unbidden was the look on Jonah's face as he kissed Emily's neck. He had been enjoying it just as much as Emily. That look was the last thing going through my head before sleep claimed me.

~timeskip to next day~

I sat in class, my eyes focused on the screen. I knew Jonah was trying to get my attention for most of the class, but I only replied with the basics much like I had my first day. My eyes lifted to the front of the room when a man wearing tactical armor and weapons entered. He spoke briefly to the teacher before moving down the isle to stop beside me. "Ma'am. Your training from your patron is going to happen now. I will inform the rest of your teachers the situation."

I nodded once and logged off the computer. I grabbed my backpack and slipped it over my shoulder before following the man to the door.

Jonah:

I watched her go with a pang of regret. I would have been asked if I was supposed to go, and it worried me that I had not been. I caught Emily looking at me from my other side and returned my attention back to my computer.

"Ma'am? What about the other one?" The man asked in the doorway. I didn't even spare a glance as I said without emotion. "When he earns his place again, he can join on training. He lost that chance. Let's go."

Jonah:

I wondered if any part of this was due to what I had been doing with Emily, or if it all was because I missed the practice. What did it matter? I asked myself, it was the same treatment either way.

I went to lunch at Emily’s side though I was lost in thought. I would have to prove myself to be taken back in.

Paublo:

I waved to Jonah and Emily from our table, gesturing to the free spaces at the table. People tended not to sit beside me. Didn't help that I was bigger than the oldest kids here.

Jonah:

I nodded to Paublo once we got our food and tugged Emily with me. She had taken hold of my hand once we walked into the cafeteria, marking me as hers. She didn’t want to sit at that table, but she went with it because I was. I glanced around the room for Kira before I sat down.

I tried to smile at Emily, but it was clear she didn't want to sit with me either. So instead I focused on Jonah. I wanted to ask him why he wasn't with kira, but it didn't seem like he would want to talk about it. Not to mention Emily wouldn't want to I was betting. "Hey, how'd class go?"
