| I ordered my own meal, getting another large order as was my usual. In the streets, I never had a lot of food. It was scarce and hard to come by. Here...I could have as much as I wanted whenever I wanted. My size was probably from that. | |

| Jonah: I smiled back in amusement. I knew he had a crush on Kyra, it’s kind of hard not to feel something toward her when she looks and acts the way she does. She engaged Emily in conversation about the break and what they did. Emily was a pretty girl, strawberry blond with soft brown eyes and a dusting of light freckles. She even had a nice figure. She knew she was attractive and she used it in a way Kyra didn’t. She had a competitive personality, vicious at times, and she craved power and prestige more than anyone else here. That was her draw to me. And why shouldn’t I play on that? Kira didn’t seem interested. She barely said three sentences to me in the past few days. I glanced to the entry way and did a quick sweep of the room to see if she had come in yet. | |

I listened absently to the girls talking before asking softly, "So...what happened with you and Kira? You both seemed so close just a few days ago." Even as I spoke about her, Kira pushed open the door into the cafeteria. She took one look around and her gaze settled on Jonah. I felt a slight shiver run down my spine at the expression on her face. It was the same cold look that had been on it after Emily had clawed her arm and dislocated it from the shoulder.
She moved over and I got a better look at her. There was a bruise blooming on her cheek, her fists had blood across the knuckles, hers from the looks of it, but the blood splattered on her shirt didn't seem like hers if I was gonna be any judge.
"Jonah. Training is canceled today. It will resume in the next few days." That was it, not a word more, not a glance towards anyone else. She simply dropped that and turned to leave. | |

| Jonah: The conversation at our table died with Kira’s interruption, as did a few from the tables around us. I was surprised to see her in this condition but I hid it as I looked at her. She turned to leave so quickly I barely had time to excuse myself from the table. “I’ll be back in one minute.” I said to the other three. Emily had a look of ice cold contempt. I hurried after Kira, catching her as she exited. I would have grabbed her arm to halt her, but I thought better of it. Not only had she not been very pleased with me, but I had seen her this way before, when she lost control. I wasn’t eager to have that directed at me. “What happened? Who got you?” I asked, brushing my own cheek for example. | |
