Perfect School

I watched with arms crossed. "Being an assassin is a family trait isn't it." I stated the question as I hit the button the bring the target up. "If they are truly your family...they will understand you know." I turned my attention towards the target.

Andrew:

“I know.” I said then sighed softly. “Understanding does not mean that there is a lack of disappointment though. I would be the let down if I didn’t follow through with all of this.” It was the most I had ever shared with her before. Our conversations usually consisted of few words as infrequent as possible.

"What do you think would disappoint them more. You continuing to do something you have no desire to do and failing in the end. Or backing out now and finding something you will succeed at. Give up this life Andrew, you don't want it. You have the skills to do it...but in here or here you don't want to be an assassin." I tapped his chest and the back of his head. He had the skills, but I could tell by how he shot that this wasn't what he wanted. He didn't belong here.

Andrew:

“I could never leave my sister.” I said simply. That’s what it all came down to. I could bare my father’s disappointment, but I could not leave Kyra alone in this dangerous world.

I nodded and watched him for a moment. "Determination. Good." I gestured towards the target. "You however don't have to be an assassin to protect your sister. Check into it. There are other parts to this life."

Andrew:

I took a deep breath and returned the gun. “I think I’ll do that. In the library. I never was good at this.”

"I don't believe the library would have the best kind of information you are looking for. If you would take my suggestion..." I moved over to a table and grabbed paper and pen. I wrote down a web address and a few basic instructions. "Get a laptop. Go here. Do the directions. It may help."

Andrew:

I looked at the information curiously. “Will do.” I looked her over. “Thanks Kira. There aren’t many people here I can talk to.” It was even difficult to talk to my sister about these things. She hero-worshiped our dad.

"Find someone who may be willing to listen. All of your family may not be in this life." I shrugged and went back to the range and picked up my gun. I released the clip and brought the target closer. There was one hole in the target, with a few extra bits off the hole.

Andrew:

I went to my room and unpacked my lap top, sitting on the floor as I did so. I followed her written instructions to the letter, curious as to what she had given me.

Zero:

A computer beeped and I looked up tiredly from the floor. I dug with a hand under a box of crackers full of marbles. Pushed aside a cookie tin with crackers, and pulled out a keyboard. My fingers moved over it as I rocked back and forth in a dirty pair of overalls, and nothing else. My toes wiggled across a stuffed bear that my feet rested on. I laid back, looking upside down at a screen that was also upside down. "Oh. A hit. Hi you Mister blip. Oooooh Odysius?" A hum left my lips, happy birthday mixed with Mozart.

"Hm? Ah! Kira! Wait..." Her tongue poked out for a moment, "Oh you aren't Kira."

Zero: Who are you?

Andrew:

The message popped up much to my surprise, I had not been expecting there to be a person at the end of the instructions. I paused, I didn’t think Kira would set me up, but it was also unwise to give any information that could be used against me.

Andrew: I was set here by a friend to talk.

It was a simple message. I hoped whoever was on the other side would know who sent me.

Zero: Oh. What do you want to talk about Andrew? Interesting codename by the way. Lot of Andrews out in the world. I like it.

My humming stopped and I sprang to my feet, tossing away the keyboard as I shuffled my way through the mess of objects that was my room. I picked up a handheld device whose name I had forgotten. PS something or other. I brought up the chat and marched over to my chair. "You had your turn Mr Tiger. Out."

Andrew:

I smiled at the screen. I could give my name without much threat, after all Andrew wasn’t my first name anyway. I was hoping that the conversation would be a little more straight forward, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was looking for here. Kira had just said it could help.

Andrew: I was told that I could explore options.
Andrew: Find another course for me to follow.

Was it too cryptic, I wondered? Thought that was the only way to be with someone you didn’t know who was or what they could do for you.

Zero: You aren't an Oracle? No. You are just like my friend then. Hm.

I paused as I spun around in the chair, having come to a compromise with the tiger draped around my shoulders. I set aside the device in my hands and grabbed my main keyboard as I opened up the chat and a tracing program. My fingers flew over the keys as my eyes stared unblinking at the screens in front of me. All eight of them. Eight was a good number, two zeros could make it after all.

Zero: You are from the assassin school. You don't want to be an assassin?

Andrew:

I took a minute to decide what to do from here. Kira had sent me here, and this person knew Kira from the sound of it.

Andrew: I would prefer a less hands on life. I am not the most skilled in those areas.

Andrew: And finding a clean life is not an option for me.

Zero: Well. Have you thought about the Oracle program? Well you look a little young to know about it though.

My tracer program had found his computer and I had frowned at how easy it was to break through the networks security just to access his computer. I brought up the laptops camera and cocked my head to the side as I looked at him.

Zero: The Oracle program is something you will learn later. But I could tell you about it if you'd like! : )

Andrew:

My eyes widened and I quickly put a finger over the camera. I looked around the room until I found a sock and draped it over… Just in case. It was unlikely that they had hacked into the camera, but I knew it was possible. Maybe Kira had sent pictures?

Andrew: Tell me about it. And how do you know how I look?

I blinked as the camera was covered and I leaned closer to the screen to try and see. "A sock? Really?"

Zero: The sock and finger wasn't necessary...but I brought up your camera of course. I am an Oracle. This is what I do. The Oracle program is a group that works with the Assassin program but in a different kind of way. Assassins do, Oracles support and collect. An Oracle is an armory, a supplier, a banker, a fencer, and more. We simply don't do the actual killing. Now could you remove the sock or finger or...what did you cover the camera with?

Andrew: I’ll consider this information. And I don’t think you need to be monitoring me so I will not remove the sock. Thank you for the information.

I leaned against the bed taking everything in. There was a lot to consider.

Zero: I'll be here! It was nice to meet you Kaiser. Oh. Sorry. Andrew! Andrew, Andrew, Andrew. v.v I found your file in the school's system. I won't look anymore I promise! I only have one friend, so maybe next time you can be my friend too?

I spun in my chair with a girlish little giggle before I looked at the picture the school had on file for him. "Andrew huh. Cool!" She got up from the chair and set the stuffed tiger down before getting on her hands and knees and crawling across the floor towards a pile of scraps. She dug around for a moment before starting to piece it all together, the computer and Andrew completely out of her head.

Andrew: Until next time.

I sent it then spend a few minutes finding some tape to put over my computer for future conversations with Zero. I closed my computer and leaned my head back on the bed. What an interesting find.

Kyra:

I came out of my room after unpacking. I was thinking about the conversation with Jonah. He had seemed flirtatious. I liked Jonah, but I did not like him in that way. When I had gone to my room, I studied myself in the mirror for a good long time. Well maybe I had gone through a little bit of a growth spurt over the break. When I got dressed for dinner I put on a sports bra over my regular bra just to hold everything down, then a t-shirt over that. Maybe no one else would notice.

Paublo:

I greeted people as I could, but mostly I was ignored. I might as well have been a statue as I stood in the hallway and watched everyone come back and shares stories of family, friends, and life outside the school. It made my chest ache though I tried to ignore it. I had no family, no real friends though I knew I was closer to Jonah than most. I was alone, and no one wanted to be friends with someone bigger than them.

Kyra:

I waved to people as I passed them. I wasn’t getting too many stares, so maybe it wasn’t as noticeable as I thought. Maybe Jonah just noticed things more than most people. I saw Paublo standing alone and made my way to him remembering our conversation right before break.

“Hey,” I smiled and gave a little wave. “Did you have a relaxing break?” I asked.

A dark brooding look had been settling on my face, but it faded into a bright smile as Kyra came up to me. Seeing her always brightened up my day. She was gorgeous, funny, and sweet. She made my chest ache but in a sweeter way. I wasn't sure which felt more uncomfortable. "Yeah. Got to watch Jonah and Kira get pretty close for the break. But otherwise yeah. Very relaxing. How about for you?"
