Perfect School

Jonah:

I stayed floating a few more minutes before swimming to the edge she had gotten out from. I folded my arms on the cool stone edge and looked up at her. "What are you thinking Kira?" I asked her softly.

By the time he had come to the edge, I had moved to lay down on a towel in a patch of sunlight offered by a large window. I opened my eyes to look at him. "Mmm? Nothin' really..." I said my voice sleepy. "I wonder how this will all end for me. You training with me."

Jonah:

“I hope it doesn’t end for a long time.”  I said watching her.  I was always watching her.  “I really enjoy training with you Kira, more than anything else.”

"Not what I..." I trailed off as he continued. I lifted an eyebrow for a brief moment before shaking my head. "I'm not that special. You will be better than me before long. The way you were trained simply held you back."

Jonah:

"I'm sure." I said as I pulled myself out of the water and wrapped a towel around my shoulders. I moved over to sit next to her. "But even when I become better than you, there wont be anyone else who compares. I don't think anyone here beside me can surpass you. You're incredible Kira." I said sincerely, my admiration showing in my tone and in my face.

I rolled over onto my back and sat up slightly to look at him. "I am just me. Our patron says I am gifted with the best genetics. That is all. Being this good is in my blood." I shrugged my shoulders and watched him. Was he trying to get an emotional response from me? What he was saying was nice. But it was also obvious. So why mention it?

 

I rolled my shoulders and just accepted the words. "Fine. But you do it through hard work and effort. I simply do. And as an added bonus, you aren't broken."

 

I cracked a ghost of a smile and looked away. "We will never know, but it is nothing more than a dream."

 

The smile left and I turned to look at him. "Flawless pair?" I asked softly. "That isn't how it works. Do you have any understanding how the world will work outside this school?"

 

"Then you know about the Oracles?" I asked him with a lifted eyebrow. "You know about the competition then?" I gazed at him intently. "I may not have been off my leash as you call it." My voice gained a small snap too it before even that faded and all emotion drained away. "But I am what I was made." I stood up and moved off my towel. "Thank you for the swim."

 

I moved off without another look back. How quickly his demeanor had changed I noted. How quickly he had looked down on me. But I couldn't blame him, I had my life led for me. I was designed and molded into what I was. He chose this life and set his own path. For a brief moment, I envied him.

 
 

Kira:

I didn't pay attention to the return of students. Instead, during the biggest influx of people I went to the shooting range. I checked out a pistol, a few clips, three targets, and a box of ammo. I stood at the station and set up the target before sending it down range to wait while I loaded the clips with ammo.

Andrew:

My sister had been sad when we left home, I on the other hand was happy to return to the school. There was only so much nagging from my father that I could take. We had gone shooting and he was not pleased with my progress. He said I wasn't working hard enough. He said this was what our family did, and if I didn't do better at it, then how could I fit in with the family? I knew he was angry and he didn't really mean what he said. His temper was always strong when it came to me.

I did want to fit in with the family. I wanted my dad to accept me and be pleased with what I did. If nothing else, I wan'ted to be good enough for him not to comment, even if he wasn't impressed. So I was going to work harder. I made my way to the shooting range, leaving my sister's side.

I hefted the pistol, the biggest one I could find. I wanted to practice with heavy recoil from a pistol. I aimed after slotting the clip. I let out a soft breath and fired the entire clip. I dropped the clip onto the table and reached for the second, slotting it in while I heard the door open.

Andrew:

I stopped when I saw Kira. I wished I could be like her. She was everything my father wanted me to be. And she wanted to be here. I went over to select a gun. Kira and I had never had an issue working together or in the same room.

"Welcome back." I stated softly once I saw who it was. I lifted the gun and fired off the clip. I didn't feel the need to say more than that.

 

"You tense slightly with each shot." I remarked as I joined him in his station. I removed his target and added another before sending it down range. "Again." I kept my eyes on him, flickering over his body as I wanted to see how he did it.
