Perfect School

Jonah:

I waited for a moment then advanced closer. I struck out at her, trying to hit her in the chest or ribs to shorted her breath.

I grabbed his arm, giving a small grunt as it passed over a breast in the attack. But I used the chance to twist against him and bring a knee up into his ribs.

Jonah:

I gasped at the pain jolting through my body. If the rib wasn’t broken before, it was now. I staggered back in the pain, trying to push through it. I threw a kick at her.

I hadn't watched his match, I just knew he had been favoring that side. Unlike before with Emily though I didn't let the surprise get to me. His kick however connected with my hand, sending a stinging pain down my fingers.

Jonah:

I tried to strike her again but missed and went defensive. My breathing was heavy, and every breath made my ribs ache.

I moved onto the attack. We traded blows, counter attacks, blocks. It was pure harmony and joy. We reached the point where we stopped actually hitting each other at all, each attack met with perfect response. It was a dance, and we were both naturals. I could read him to his core as we fought, just as he could read me to my core. But it was my body that betrayed me first. My energy was flagging and I had to fight to stay conscious which let his fist connect with my chest. I staggered back before my body moved on its own. A round house to his face. If it hit with his balance as it was he would go down on the mat and I could try to finish this. If not...I was doomed. I didn't have the strength to stop him from really fighting. But I could try to put a token resistance up. I was betting it all on that one kick.

Jonah:

I caught the kick on the side of my head and went down with a grunt. I struck my arm out to knock her off her feet. I rolled on top of her the second she was on the ground. I straddled the small form and moved to restrict her breathing to cause her to pass out but… she already was.

I was stunned for a moment. There was no way someone with her skill would have fallen hard enough to knock themselves out. “Kira?” I asked in bewilderment. I slid my hand vover her neck and searched for a pulse with two fingers.

My heart rate was rapid, faster than it should have been but my body was utterly limp and unresponsive.

Jonah:

The medics came to look her over, and take her away to the infirmary. I won. I didn’t feel like I won, but that’s what they were saying. I knew I could have won the fight if she hadn’t passed out, but what happened didn’t satisfy me.

They returned my ranking to first in physical combat, which did please me a little, despite the way I won.

Kira:

I woke up a few hours later, my eyes searching the darkening room as I swallowed. My mouth felt dry, and my body ached all over. I could tell they had done some work on me, resetting my shoulder properly, tending to the gashes from Emily's nails.

I sat up slowly, the blankets pooling around my waist as I looked down at myself. My shirt had been removed leaving me with only a sports bra and what felt like shorts.

Jonah:

I had gone to the infirmary after the patch so they could clean me up a bit. My rib was cracked, but not bad enough that they needed to repair it. I was just given a brace to wear. I had a wicked headache from Kira’s final kick, and little bruises all over, both from Kira and Pablo.

I ran a hand over my face. I had lost, I could tell that much. I probably wouldn't have been here if this wasn't true. I let out a soft breath and tried to weakly make my way out of bed.

Jonah:

One of the medics notified me that Kira was awake as I had asked them to. I entered the infirmary and went to Kira’s room. It had a window from the hallway that I could see for myself that she was awake. I knocked on the door.

I was sitting on the edge of the bed, my eyes focused on the floor. At the knock I lifted my eyes and turned my head towards the door behind me. I didn't bother dressing assuming it was a medic.

Jonah:

I entered after a moment and hovered by the door. My eyes grazed over her state of dress, only briefly lingering on her body before I looked at her face. “You passed out during our match.” I said it almost as an accusation, though without being harsh.

I had a brief moment of self conciousness at being shirtless in front of him like this but I didn't let it get to me. "Congratulations on your win Jonah." I said instead. I was covered in small scars, the result of my training.

Jonah:

“I didn’t feel like I won. Our match didn’t really finish did it? What happened to you?” I asked with a frown. “I couldn’t have hurt you enough to cause that…” I was concerned that I had somehow misjudged my attack and damaged her in a way I hadn't intended.

"You won. Accept your victory Jonah." I said as I got to my feet slowly. I swayed a bit and I had to stumble towards the wall to lean against it for support.

Jonah:

“It’s not much of a victory when my opponent wasn’t fit for the match.” I said cooly, watching her carefully but offering no help.

I gave a soft breath. "If I had been fit for the match I wouldn't have done half of the things I did. Take your victory." I said, pressing my face towards the wall to feel the coolness of the tiles against my skin.

Jonah:

I decided not to keep bickering with her. “How are you doing?” I asked instead, hoping to lighten the mood a little.

I leaned off of the wall slowly and started to move towards him. I wanted to leave and go back to my room but as I tried to get to him so I could leave but I stumbled weakly into him.

Jonah:

My hand had already been going out to her to offer her help when she stumbles, to is was easy to catch hold of her and steady her. “I take it you aren’t back to normal just yet.” I said dryly, looking down at her. I held onto her arm and the other hand was on her side to keep her steady. This was one of the few times we actually touched.

I put a hand to my pulse point as I leaned against him, letting him support me. His fingers were warm on my skin, I noted as I worked on easing my heart and breathing to a more normal level.

Jonah:

I was trying desperately not to think about the fact that she was only wearing a sports bra and shorts, and that my hands were touching bare skin. “You should get back in bed, I can get someone to do a check up on you.” I said carefully, not showing any of my thoughts on my face. I had never held a girl like this, not one that I was attracted to, and was wearing so little.
