Perfect School

Jonah:

“I imagine that is a learned style from fighting you.” I put my hands together and rested my lips on the tips of my fingers. “Were they Marie’s'?” I asked eyes casually glancing around so I could observe them discreetly.

"No. Another person like Marie owns them. It was...a gesture of faith to have us training together. Later I will explain the politics of the world you are stepping into and the one you have joined under Marie. And his fighting style, and yours, are not one you learn from me. It isn't something I can do. You can't train to do it. It's something you can either do or you can't. No in between." I remarked as I abandoned my half eaten plate to narrow my eyes thoughtfully. I kept glancing from Jonah to Sean, mentally comparing them.

Jonah:

I considered her words for a moment. “No, I don't believe that.” I told her. “Kira, you're a natural. Your instincts are fine tuned to this sort of life. You have been trained to sharpen them, but your abilities are within you. I, on the other hand, have learned my skills. Every one of them is in my head, they become reflexes through practice and habit, but I still have to think. I'm always thinking, always calculating.”I told her, not liking that I had only a part of her attention.

"Then you don't even know what you can do Jonah. I'd try to work on that. Because I see the glaring differences in styles between myself and you. If you need a place to start, then look at how we deal with people." My gaze left Sean to focus instead on Jonah entirely.

Jonah:


Someone came to collect our plates once we were done. Kira's mind worked in a very different way than mine did. That wasn't a surprise to me, for I knew that my mind was not an ordinary one, but her's was different form most as well.

“Are we ready to go? Or would you like to greet your old friend first?” I asked her after a few minutes of silence. She had made a point of saying that she had no friends, that she didn't need them. I chose my words accordingly, to see her response.

"Yes I'm ready. I have no friends Jonah. I'm not capable." I stated flatly. "He was a part of my life, and that is it. A time will come where you too may fall to that as well." I stood with a brief glance towards Sean. The gaze lingered for a few seconds before I turned away from him to a side door. "Let's go."

Jonah:

“Hearts will never be practical until they are made unbreakable” I quoted as I followed her. It was very true, but nearly impossible. I believed she had a heart somewhere in there, and I did intend to find it.

"But an unbreakable heart would lack the capacity to feel. You search for the impossible in an effort to achieve nothing." I retorted with a quiet snort. I didn't pause as I moved out the door, only stopping once I was in the middle of a shaft of sunlight.

Jonah:

“I think I prefer you as the sweet innocent girl you just played so well.” I muttered. Once again I removed my jacket to enjoy the sun. I stood next to her, but my body was angled away with my face upturned to the light.

"Shall we head back? I believe our teacher shall have the events gathered." I left the choice up to him, choosing instead to descend into my thoughts.

Jonah:

We returned to the cottage where our teacher told us the tasks for the next couple of days with little detail. For the rest of the day we were free to train on our own, or move about the resort as we pleased. That evening we would be meeting our competition formally at a dinner.

I chose to remain at the cottage, staying in the living room with my eyes on the TV. It was set to some kind of science fiction show. A man ran around waving a stick he called a screwdriver against all manner of creatures. Though my eyes were on the screen, my attention was not. I lounged across the couch, working on strategies in my head over the events we would be facing.

Jonah:

I took a walk without Kira. My mind wandered. The boyish excitement from this morning was all but gone to be replaced by a solitary calmness. Even when I was alone at the school, the other students occupied my mind, mainly: Kira, Kyra, Emily, Paublo, and Andrew. Now I had a chance to be alone without their intrusion, without having to plan their training and future as I could control it. For the moment I was alone in my mind, even choosing to lock Kira away. It was not a pleasant experience. When I was not studying another thing, my mind turned and analyzed my own actions, my own paths, my own thoughts. When I detached my mind from me, I could see what I was and it was not a welcoming sight.

I was gone for hours and when I returned to the cottage I sank down next to Kira with an exhausted sigh. She crept back in and chased myself out of my mind, like a drug I was addicted to.

Unintentionally or not I had drifted off with the TV running. I stirred briefly as he sank down beside me raising my head to peer at him before settling back down with my eyes closed. "Welcome back Jonah." I murmured to him as I let myself slowly wake from my nap.

Jonah:

In a fluid movement I laid my head down in her lap before she was more awake. She was warm and it had cooled outside, I may had gathered my arms around her had I thought I could test her more.

I gave a startled jerk when his head was suddenly in my lap. His cool head felt nice on my skin. Slowly I raised a hand to play with his hair, running it through his curls gently. I felt...confused as to why he had done this. But it only proceeded to make me wake up all the faster.

Jonah:

I was pleased when she didn't reject me and settled more comfortably, muscles relaxing at her fingers through my hair. “You used my shoulder as a pillow, now it's my turn.” I explained, closing my eyes. “I would have liked you on my walk.” I said softly, a moment later.

"Mmm." I remarked softly. Had I used him as a pillow? I couldn't remember well enough to know but I assume he was correct. "Why would you have wanted me on your walk?" I kept my voice low like his.

Jonah:

“I like having you around. More so than anyone else.” I answered honestly. This girl had barely an ounce of fat on her body, so she was not the most comfy pillow, but I enjoyed the intimacy regardless.

"Mmm." I remarked as I watched him. It was odd to think about his phrase, because I heard the truth in his voice. But not only that, I felt the same. Having him around had just become, normal. As I reviewed memories I noticed that I tended to look for him when I entered a class. Perhaps not directly, but just the effect he had in the room. Such thoughts brought a small frown to my face but I kept mulling it over and over.

Jonah:

I settled in the silence for a while, it was comfortable. “Are you going to wear a dress to the dinner tonight?” I asked her curiously. We had another hour before we needed to leave.

"Yes. It won't be welcome, but I'll deal with it." I replied absently. My thoughts drifted this way and that before sharpening into a single focus. "I should start getting ready now."

Jonah:

I opened my eyes to look up at her before with a soft sigh, I sat up. “You can shower first.” I told her, rubbing my face and resting my head on the back of the couch.

"Even if you had wanted too I was claiming it first." I retorted as I got up. I watched him for a moment before turning and gliding off to my room. I gathered up soaps and shampoo's then moved into the bathroom to shower.

Jonah:

I took my sower after Kira. Once clean, I dressed in a nice button up shirt and slacks. I combed my hair and put on a dab of cologne before going out to wait for Kira.
