Perfect School

I finally left my perch at thirteen minutes. Reloading my weapon I took a more active role this time, going on the hunt for my targets. I was still untouched, and only one person had even noticed me before I'd taken them out. My movement took me towards Jonah though I stayed weary even of him.

Jonah:

I heard one more shot, and I myself got one more person. Then I caught a glimpse of Kira and knew at that second it was over. I fired two shots in her direction, knowing already that she had caught me.

One of his shots wizzed it's way past my ear, the other was caught by the wind and impacted onto my wrist. I stared at the spot and the gentle warmth it gave before raising the rifle and firing a trio in response. All three impacted right over his heart.

Jonah:

It was not pleasant to be shot in the chest, even with the pellet bullets. The warmth heated the spot and the computer pointlessly told me I had lost. Then the computer said the match was over and to return.

I took the time to reload as I walked back towards the judges. Pausing before their table I set the rifle then my pair of unused pistols down. I saw the worried expressions on their faces as they consulted with each other and ignored me. "Next time make it harder." I informed them as they finally turned to look at me.

Jonah:

I was grinning as I walked out after Kira. From start to finish it had lasted less than twenty minutes. They must have predicted it lasting an hour or more, they were clearly stunned that it was over. My ego was not diminished by not having won against her, to me we were a unit, and our win counted against the others.

"We are tied now." I told him softly while rolling my right shoulder absently. I wasn't overly impressed with the contest so far, but I figured it would get harder the further we went along.

Jonah:

“We are indeed.” I answered, still grinning. When they did the scoring, Kira and I were first and second by a significant amount. Kira held half of the total kill count, and I had a quarter. Every one else had one or two to their name, and several had been taken out too quick to get any.

I only glanced over the scoreboard, knowing that whispers had already started about both me and Jonah. He'd dominated the first round, I the second. I knew eyes would be on us in the rounds to come and it would just make things harder for us in the long run.

Jonah:

“This goes to show, the amount of training you get means nothing without a capable mind and body.” I looked her over, arms crossed loosely. She had said the first night that many of them were more training that I did, and possibly more than her. She was the capable body, I was the mind.

"Mmm. I suppose that is true. But more surprises lay in store yet I imagine." I countered as I kept a measured pace back to our hut.

Jonah:

“If it gets harder than this, then it is a certainty we will win.” I answered. “The question is, which one of us will come out on top?” I nudged her with my elbow and winked with a playful smile.

"Mmm. I assume we will." I remarked though a ghost of a smile curved my lips. I didn't want to remark on his last comment, not sure I could answer that in a way I liked.

Jonah:

I peeled the suit off to return it. I was dressed in shorts and a tank underneath. “Wanna go for a jog on the trail?” I asked her. “Get out of sight from preying eyes?”

My suit joined his, showing a sports bra and shorts under. I stretched absently for a moment before nodding. "A run would be good, our time here feels almost neglectful to training. Especially today."

Jonah:

“We can can use our extra time today to train, lets go.” I lead her away from the arena and down a secluded path through the woods.

I followed after him, warming up as I did so. I'd have preferred to run in better things, but after the laughable second challenge I had energy to burn and needed to get rid of it anyway I could.

Jonah:

The trail went through the woods for a while, but shade eventually gave way to a path around a lake. It was quiet, and solitary. None of the others could have made it out here before we did.

Running through trails with woods all around had been one of my favorite things to do in any location I'd been sent too. I often would find a park, a forest, or a path where I could just go and enjoy a solitary trip. The jog was nice, a welcome use of my muscles and of my time.

Jonah:

There was a platform built on the waters edge, meant for fishing. I slowed to a walk and went out onto it. The water was fairly clear and looked deep. Without looking to Kira, I peeled off my top and dove into the water.

I chose not to join him fully in the water though I removed my shoes and socks to dangle my legs into the cool water as I watched him swim beneath.

Jonah:

I surfaced and paddled over to her. “Not going to come in? The water is nice.” I commented with a charming smile.

"I'm wearing white." I stated flatly, though I did want to get into the water. I figured he knew how much I enjoyed swimming and just floating in the water. But something still held me back from just diving in.

Jonah:

I grinned and sank into the water so only my eyes were above the water, like an alligator, then swam toward her slowly.

"If you pull me in Jonah so help me I will make your life a miserable hell." I narrowed my eyes at him, body growing tenser the closer her got.
