Perfect Assassins

"I don't know!" Lexi exclaimed. "I...just...don't know," she repeated, quieter this time. "I don't even mean to."

Krissy:

I sighed and moved past hi  to check the laundry.  I got it out of the dryer and varied it back into the room where I dumped it on the floor.  "Want to help me fold?" I asked them.  

Kyle:  

I clicked my tongue I  dissaprovment and let her arm go.  "Well stop it.  Just stop.  Don't fidget.  Your hurting yourself." I said, my tone harsher than I meant it. 

"not really... but i guess. Nothing better to do"

Lexi nodded, putting her hands in her lap. She looked away from Kyle, seeming to become angry but she didn't lash out. Instead, she stayed silent.

Kyle:

I sighed as I glanced at her again. “Well you were hurting yourself. I’m sorry I snapped at you though..” I said softly.

"It's not like I'm doing it on purpose, Kyle," Lexi replied softly.

Kyle:

“I know, but it’s not healthy to let yourself do that.” I said as I turned down another country road.

"I'm sorry," Lexi sighed, giving up on aruging with him.

Kyle:

I sighed again a little in aggravation but didn’t say anything else. I drove in silece for a while longer then told her we were almost there.

Krissy:  

I packed the clothes quickly once we finished folding.  "Could you drop me by Kyle's car?  He wants me to bring it." I asked Will, carrying my bag over my shoulder. 

Lexi perked up when he said they were almost there and she even smiled.

Kyle:

We passed through a small town then five minutes later I pulled up to an old country house.

"Where are we ?" Lexi asked, studying the house for weak points and escape routes.

Kyle:

“We came here when we were younger. Krissy and I, I mean. Right after our mom died. I knew it was close by, I just wanted to see it again.” I said as I made my way up the front porch.

Lexi followed him, carefully and quietly, like she wasn't sure if it was safe or not.

Kyle:

I looked back at her. “Chill out, babe, it’s fine.” I told her as I retrieved the key from an old planter box that had been growing weeds in the many years since I had last been here. After I unlocked the door I held my hand out to her reassuringly.

Lexi carefully and hesitantly took Kyle's hand, her mouth remaining shut as she followed him inside.

Kyle:

I squeezed her hand and flipped on the lights on the inside. All the furniture was draped in white sheets. “It’s fine, see? It looks exactly how I left all those years ago.” I told her.

"I was here," Lexi replied, frowning at the interior space. "But when?"

Kyle:

I glanced at her. “What?” I asked as I pulled the sheet off of the couch.

"I....Kyle, I was here," Lexi mumbled, looking around with wide eyes. "I don't...I don't remember."

Kyle:

"Are you sure..?  It would have to been a long time ago, several years..  Are you sure it was here?"  I asked doubtfully. 

"Positive," Lexi replied softly, gently tracing a small line on the wall where a hidden door would've been. She had the oddest sense of deja vu.

Kyle:

“When you were little? It couldn’t have been after we were here.” I said, puzzled.
