Perfect Assassins

Michael:

I led him to Jack's room, leaving the door open behind me as I moved over to the bed. "Hey, you okay mate?" I asked him gently. He gave me a tired smile, and his eyes brightened when he saw the water in my hand. I held it close enough that his lips could find the straw while my other hand found the straps. Halfway through the drink I had to pull the glass away, I did so unhappily. Jack had started mumbling and was shaking with soft laughter that sounded off, as if it was highly strained. Even under the thin sheet that covered him, you could see his body heaving to get out of the restraints. It took a few seconds for him to calm down again and I let him drink again. Once he was finished his eyes finally focused enough to see Kyle. "Hey Kyle. Its good to see you up again! Sorry for the trouble I caused, and I would get up to shake your hand but...." He trailed off as his eyes glazed over and he started muttering to himself, his limbs and extremities, trying to move and react even though he was strapped down.

I brushed the hair out of Jack's face, my eyes never leaving his face as I called softly. "He did this to himself. I didn't know what to do, Krissy wasn't eating, wasn't sleeping. I needed someone to talk to. I called him and told him about what happened and everything that had been tried. He got quiet for a bit before coming up with a plan. You know, I did my best to try and talk him out of it. Made ever promise, threat, and lie I could think of to get him to not. All he said in response was 'Michael, remember what our old friend Scott used to tell us. We never leave a brother behind, and if the time comes where you are dragged kicking and screaming, delerious out of your mind, too tired to make coherent sentences. That is the time where you plan, that is the time where you do what ever it takes to go back, to get your fallen brother. It doesn't matter if you die doing it, because your brothers will come get the both of you. Kyle has fallen, and so we gotta get him back up.'" I let out a sigh and ran a hand over my face. "Jack descends into madness and insanity when he takes any Soldier Serum. But he took who know how many doses, working to dilute it enough that it wouldn't destroy you like it did him. Lying to me about what your feeling, what your body is doing, or what your thinking." I turned to face him. "I can't think of a bigger betrayal to someone who did all that to save your life."

Kyle:

I stared down at jack with a friend. I would never have said we were close friends. I liked him alright, but I would never have expected him to do something like this for me. I couldn’t say I would do the same for him, Krissy would, but I wasn’t that kind of person. “I didn’t realize he did this. I would never have asked him to.” I said quietly.

Jack:

"Didn't have ta...you matter to Krissy, and Krissy matters ta Michael...so your worth it." I managed out before everything lost focus once again and I dropped back into the madness.

Kyle:

I sighed. I didn’t like owing people, and Jack had saved my life… “A bit.” I admitted to Michael after a little while.

Michael:

I nodded and picked up the black case where I had set it on the bedside table, I opened it up and pulled out the same epi-pen I had used on him before. "How bad on a scale of one to ten. Ten being you can't live without it."

Kyle:

“Four.” I said with shrug. It was actually a bit closer to a seven.. I let out a frustrated breath. “Or six..”

I nodded giving a sigh. "I was afraid of that, but its fixable. Never forget, this stuff is like a drug. You can get addicted, but if you start lowering the dose you get, you can clear it from your system eventually and be fine without it. It will be faster since its a lesser dose." I moved up to him as I turned the dial on the pen. I offered it out to him, guessing he wouldn't want me to hit him with it.

Kyle:

I held my hands up and stepped back. “I’m not taking more.” I said defiantly.

Michael:

"That craving your feeling, it won't go away. You never know how it could respond in your body. Most likely it could just build and build until you hurt someone because you need something to fill the gap." I said my eyes serious.

Kyle:

I leaned against the foot board of the bed considering it. I could handle craving it. I had enough self-control for that… But what if he was right and it caused me to hurt someone? Krissy, or Lexi… I gritted my teeth then reached out and took the pen reluctantly.

Michael:

"Relax, my guess is by the time you finish that pen, you should be good. Take the dose, then give it back. Last thing I need is for someone to break it." I said softly.

Kyle:

I hit it into my then handed it back. “I won’t have to take it again?” I asked, holding the pen out for him.

Michael:

I took the pen and looked over the contents inside. "Best guess is two more days, so two more doses." I said. I glanced at the nearest clock and smiled at him. "Lets see what you can do while on that stuff. Want to go shooting?"

Kyle:

I looked at him expressionlessly. “I suppose.” I said indifferently with a shrug.

Michael:

I felt dissappointed at his disinterest so I figured I would do my best to how him what he had going on right now. I grabbed his shoulders and brought my knee up into his stomach. I didn't waste time, though I did keep myself to my normal levels. I still had the stronger dose running through my body after all. But even with that he seemed to block me with ease, almost as if I had been moving slow. "Do you see now why you might have fun for a little while? Your reflexes and motor skills are faster. Everything about you right now is improved."

Kyle:

“Well..” I said with a slight smirk. “There wasn’t all that much to improve on.”

Michael:

I chuckled and pulled back. "I think out of everyone, you have always been someone I never wanted to fight. I don't think I would walk away with out a lot of blood loss. Now come on. I know your a good shot, but lets see what you can do shooting long range with a pistol."

Kyle:

“Alright.” I left the room knowing he’d follow and made my way to the basement. The walls were virtually sound proof, so shooting wouldn’t wake anyone up.

I followed him, curious to see just how good of aim he had.

Kyle:

I flipped the lights on. Circular lights lit up all around the room. They gave the feel of early morning light rather than artificial yellow light. I made my way to the shooting range and selected a hand gun. My favorite was in the bedroom with Lexi.

I let my eyes wander around the room for a moment before going to the racks of weapons and looking them over absently.

Kyle:

I loaded the gun and a few extra magazines before going over to the shooting range. I set the target at my usual distance of difficulty. I emptied the magazine then brought the target back. I blinked in slight surprise. Usually I was always close to the center. But there was only one hole, and it was right in the middle of the target. The only sign that more than one bullet had gone through the hole was the slightly irregular edges of the circle.

Krissy:

I woke up once the morning light filtered through the window. I immediately went in search of Michael, when I couldn’t find him I went to Kyle’s room. My blood started pumping at his absence. I relaxed when I heard gunshots from the basement. I crept in slowly and sat on the stairs watching the two men I loved most in the world. Alive. Within the same space. Not trying to kill each other. I grinned while watching them. Eventually Kyle turned to see me and smiled slightly.

Michael:

"I concede your point, but unless the firing pin is .3 not .4, the gun is going to un-perform in the long run." I said as I racked the pistol in my hands, and sliding the empty clip out and into my waiting hand. I turned to face him before following his gaze a smile growing on my lips.

Krissy:

I got up and started walking over to them feeling the cold floors on my bare feet. I grinned stopping in front of them. “You look better.” Kyle said to me. “I look better? I wasn’t the one dying.” “I wasn’t dying.” He countered. “You weren’t doing a great job at living.” “I’m not dead now am I?” He grinned at me. I gave a content sigh and hugged him. I missed his flawed logic more than I ever thought I would. “I missed you.” I mumbled. He kissed the top of my head.
