Perfect Assassins

"Back rub, and a warm bath?" Was my next offer in her ear, just trying to get her to smile a little.

Krissy:

I looked up into his blue eyes. “With you?” I asked softly.

A smile spread across my lips, "Perhaps, it might make it easier to give you a massage like that."

Krissy:

A smile twitched at my lips just as the receptionist called, “Marie Evans?” My stomach twisted and I grimaced. “That’s me.” I said grimly to Michael.

"Deep breaths darling, and think of the massage and bath later. Actually, just imagine a spa trip. That is what you get to look forward to after." I said softly to her as I got to my feet.

Krissy:

I got to my feet dreading what was about to happen. Part of the anxiety was due to the fact that I didn’t quite know what went on in such visits. I had been in hospitals many times, however much I hated to, but that was for treating of wounds, not something natural. It was a completely different science as far as I was concerned.
I had a firm grip on Michael’s hand as we walked into the sickly sweet smelling room. The lady had me sit down on a paper covered bench and had me lay back. She explained everything she was doing without having to be asked. She was going to do an ultrasound, she told me, just to make sure everything was okay. I wasn’t entirely sure I wanted to watch. I closed my eyes and cringed as I felt the cold gel being squeezed onto my belly.

Michael:

I held onto Krissy's hand, resigning myself to having to be the one to pay attention to all the doctor was saying.

Krissy:

I turned my face away from the screen and to Michael while keeping my eyes closed. My eyes fluttered open in slight alarm as I heard a thumping kind of mechanical noise. “What is that?” I asked looking to the doctor rather than the screen. She smiled kindly. “The heart beat.” She answered. My gaze flicked to Michael.

Michael:

I kept my face impassive, though I personally was very interested. Krissy needed to make a choice, before the choice would be made for her. She either needed to keep it, or get rid of it. And the sooner she made her choice the better.

Krissy:

I looked slowly to the screen and listened to the doctor as she pointed out things. She said it looked normal and healthy. Personally, I thought it looked like a turtle. It didn’t seem like a parasite though, which was what I had always thought about babies. And the sound of it’s heartbeat, it made it all very real.

Michael:

I glanced at Krissy's face from time to time, trying to gauge her reaction. What was it she was feeling about all of this? So far she hadn't run out of the room screaming, which was a good sign.

Krissy:

It was too early to tell the gender, but the doctor printed out pictures for us and handed them to me after she had wiped the goo off my belly. I sat up as she explained a few more things before letting us go. I looked down at the picture, feeling very odd once we were out in the car again.

Michael:

I still didn't speak, waiting for her to say something. What could I say after all? I had enjoyed watching the baby, but this was her choice not mine.

Krissy:

“What are we going to tell Kyle?” I said after a long moment of silence.

Michael:

"Anything you want to tell him. You still have to make the choice Krissy." I told her softly.

Krissy:

“I know…” I said quietly, looking down at my lap. I turned the picture over in my hand. “If… If we keep it everything is going to change. We couldn’t- I couldn’t be an assassin.” I said into my lap.

"Yes, things will change." I whispered to her. My eyes shot over to her for a moment, wishing I could hug her right now.

Krissy:

I swallowed the lump in my throat. “Do… Do you think it’s worth it?” I asked quietly, peaking at him.

"I don't know sweetie, we might look back and wish we had gone through with it, or we might wish we had never done it. We could even be happy with which ever choice we make." I remarked softly to her.

Krissy:

I tucked the picture away in my bag and reached for his hand, holding it with both of muin in my lap. “I was so sure of what I wanted to do when I first found out. Everything is so confusing now.” I said quietly.

Michael:

"I don't think it will get better with time darling." I told her softly. A soft smile came to my lips as I turned my head towards her again.

Krissy:

I tilted my head, looking at him sideways. “What?” I asked wondering why he was smiling.

"Just thinking that I am engaged to the love of my life." I admitted, turning forward to drive once more.

Krissy:

A small smile twitched at my lips. I let out a soft breath and leaned back in my chair facing Michael. My eyes slid closed after a minute of watching him.

Michael:

I let her rest, content to just drive us home. I glanced at her from time to time, but never said anything.
