Perfect Assassins

Krissy:

I felt the car purr to a stop and blinked a few times. “Are we home?” I mumbled sleepily.

I got out of the car instead of asking, moving around to the other side so I could open the door and pick her up in my arms. I carried her, bridal style towards the door.

Krissy:

I giggled softly and wound my arms around his neck, hugging him and breathing in his scent.

Krissy:

I had decided I was going to have the baby. I was thinking of it as more of a baby now than a parasite. I showed Lexi the ultrasound picture and told her my decision. She was thrilled of course and reassured me that it would all be for the better. She wanted me to tell Kyle but I couldn’t bring myself to do that just yet. Instead I told Eric what was going to happen and showed him the picture. He was less than thrilled. In fact he was borderline furious. He thought I was a fool for it and said it would get me killed. He said Michael and I would turn out Like my parents and leave the child orphaned like Kyle and I had been. He said more hurtful things than that but I tried to forget them. I had decided and I wasn’t going to be changed by that.
Lexi had to leave on a short trip to her home country, but we decided to tell Kyle about the baby when she got back. Both so she could support me and calm him if he took it badly. I hoped he wouldn’t. He had always liked kids after all.
To be honest, I enjoyed having Kyle all to myself without his attention being divided by Lexi. I was laying on the couch wearing one of his shirts half leaning against him while we watched a movie. I had my legs in Michael’s lap, keeping him there with me. Kyle seemed to mostly ignore his presence. After the soldier serum incident, Kyle seemed to have lost his hostility toward him. I was pleased, even if it wasn’t friendship, at least it was progress.

Michael:

I was trying to bring Kyle into a banter with me over the movie. He had made a remark about a character and I was purely in fun, doing my best to just get him talking. I didn't think I would become friends with him for a long time. But that really wasn't going to stop me from trying. After all, eventually I was going to need a godfather for the baby. I loved Jack dearly, he was the closest thing I had to a brother, and I would do anything for him. But...I couldn't have Jack be the godfather. He was just too crazy. And so I did my best to work on Kyle.

"...but see, she even says it there! She says that she never wished this on anyone. And yet in the beginning she was furious enough with him to wish it upon him." I said in agreement with his statement.

Kyle:

I glanced at him then put my arm loosely around Krissy. For her sake I put up with him.

Krissy:

I smiled at Michael for trying. He was adorable when he was talking to other people. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs and turned my head to look. Eric had car keys in his hand. “I suppose you don’t mind if I take the Toyota?” He asked. It was the car he usually drove though it wasn’t his. “Yeah, whatever.” Kyle said without turning to look at him. “Where are you going?” I asked, a little uneasy. “back to my group. They want me back. And there’s nothing for me here.” He said coldly. I felt icy shards in my heart. “You’re leaving?” I asked in bewilderment. I should have guessed, but I never saw it coming, I assumed my friends would stay with me for as long as was possible. Not just leave.

Michael:

My face became an expressionless mask. Though inside, I was secretly glad Eric was leaving. It was for Krissy's sake that I put up with him, but while I didn't hate him. I had no glad feelings towards him, he had made Krissy cry and I had spent a long while talking to her, building up her happiness, and excitement for the child.

Krissy:

“There is no point in staying Krissy.” He said, his voice had softened a little. “Thank God.” Kyle muttered. I shot him a scowl before getting up and going over to Eric. “Why are you leaving?” I demanded. “You know why.” He said flatly looking from me to Michael then at my belly. I crossed my arms uncomfortably. “Why can’t you just be supportive? You’re my oldest friend, but you’re not being one right now.” I said quietly so Michael and Kyle couldn’t hear over the sounds coming from the movie. “I don’t want to be your friend, Krissy.” Eric snapped. I cringed.

Michael:

I closed my eyes, the hand that had been rubbing Krissy's legs clenching in a fist. No other outward sign of my displeasure of what I had seen.

Krissy:

I felt hysteria rising in my chest. It was out of my control, I knew it and I couldn’t stand it. “So you don’t care at all. All the things we’ve been through mean nothing to you? I’m not worth it?” I breathed. “Don’t be that way Krissy. You know why I’m leaving. It’s not worth it with him around.” He gestured to Michael. “You’re different with him. And not in a good way. Even with all the grief he’s put you through.” He was talking so loud, he didn’t care if Michael heard him. My temper flared and I pushed him. “Shut up!” I hissed. He pushed me back more forcefully. I tried to slap him but he caught my wrist and squeezed it. Instantly a a deadly voice cut in. “Get your hands off my sister Eric.”

Michael:

I opened my eyes slowly, Kyle's words bringing my attention sharply to what Eric was doing. He was hurting Krissy, and I was just sitting here, doing nothing about it. What was wrong with me, I wondered before getting to my feet slowly.

Krissy:

Eric let me go with a glance at Kyle. He was always intimidated by him. I took a step back as my eyes swam with tears. I was such a crybaby, and I hated myself for it. He looked at me coldly. “Don’t worry, it’s just hormones.” He spat. I blinked. “Though for you things aren’t going to get better.” He continued. “If you even get through this, which I doubt you will with how careless you are with yourself. Tell me, what is the longest you have gone without being injured? You really think you can get through nine months?” I shook my head frantically, I was past being angry or hurt, I just wanted him to stop before Kyle caught on to what he was saying. “And on top of your careless, you’ll be handicapped. I don’t want to stay and watch you slowly kill yourself. You’re sealing your fate by having this baby, Krissy.” He spat. I stared at him in horror.

Kyle:

I had my hand on my gun from the moment her shoved her, but as he spoke I became confused. I couldn’t process his words at the rate he was saying them. Until he said ‘baby’ then there was a moment of dead silence. Krissy had no bitter comeback for the first time in all her arguments. And it dawned on me what he was saying. “Krissy?” I asked, completely shocked.

Michael:

I moved over resting a hand on Krissy's shoulder. "Go to the kitchen Krissy." I told her my voice leaving to room for her to do anything else. I turned my gaze to Kyle and motioned with my head, "We will explain soon." I then turned my gaze to Eric. "You. Get out. Haven't you done enough damage? If you really cared, you would offer solutions. Not work on nothing but pain and suffering to someone who cares about you."

Krissy:

I went to the kitchen without a word. I wanted nothing else than to get away. I didn’t want to face Kyle, not after him finding out like that. Not after what Eric had said. He was right after all… I was careless.

Eric:

I looked him over with disgust. “I think we both know who is truly to blame for all of this.” I spat before going to pack my things.

Kyle:

I didn’t know what to say or think or do. I wanted to shoot Eric for what he had said to Krissy. I also wanted Krissy to explain what the hell was going on.

Michael:

When Kyle didn't seem to move I moved behind him and started to push him towards the kitchen. "Krissy wanted to wait to tell you. But I will let her explain before I have a question to ask you. Krissy doesn't know the question."

Kyle:

“Krissy’s pregnant.” I said, stunned.

Michael:

"Yes, though we aren't sure how." I said as I moved him to a chair in the kitchen. I didn't care if he sat or not, I instead went to fill two plastic cups full of water for the two of them as I said over my shoulder. "Krissy you might as well explain."

Krissy:

I leaned against the far wall of the kitchen with my arms wrapped tightly around myself. What was I supposed to say? I had imagined telling him several times, but it was always with Lexi at my side, and I wasn’t in tears at the time. I stifled and tried to blink the tears away.

Kyle:

I stared at my sister. “Was this… Was this purposeful?” I asked finally after her prolonged silence. She shook her head and sniffled more. I shot a cold look at Michael. “Kyle please.” She said. “Don’t be that way.” I sighed and looked back at her. “Is that why you got engaged?” I asked. She shook her head again. “Are you keeping it?” I asked finally, I knew my sister, and while I would disapprove, that seemed like the most likely choice for her. “Well I was… We were.” She glanced at Michael. “But now after what Eric said… He’s right. How am I going to make it through…” She trialed off and started sobbing more.

Michael:

"To interupt, and hopefully make things better...Kyle my question now. I haven't really talked this over with Krissy. But in addition to being the uncle to our child. Will you be the godfather as well? Please? I can think of no one better to take care of him or her." I interjected softly, as I set the cup in front of him. I then went to Krissy to put the cup into her hands.

Kyle:

I thought about myself as being an uncle, something I never thought would happen. Not with Krissy. And that left Jake, who I seriously doubted would ever have children and if he did I doubted Lexi or I would ever know about it. But godfather, I would be a guardian for the child. If anything ever happened them. And I hated to think it, but it was a very possible thing for the two of them. “Of course I will.” I said slowly. It was so much to take in.

Michael:

I grinned happily, "That is a relief. The only other male I know that I could ask is Jack. And as much as I love him...that would be a horrible choice."

Krissy:

I smiled slightly at that but I didn’t really feel any joy. It was all gloom at what would happen in the future. It was so back and forth lately. I heard the front door slam. Eric. As furious as I was with him, I couldn’t just let him leave like that. It might be the last time I ever saw him… I hurried past Michael and out of the kitchen. “Krissy no!” I heard Kyle call after me but I was already following Eric. I got outside and the porch light turned on. “Eric wait, please wait.” I called after him as he loaded his bag in the trunk.

Kyle:

I followed after Krissy and stopped in the living room to watch through the big windows.

Michael:

I stayed in the living room silently counting off on my fingers. "One, Kyle didn't kill me which is good. Two, Eric is leaving which is good. Three, Krissy is unhappy which is bad." I looked at my fingers, "In all...not a bad take...but I wish I could be three for three."

Kyle:

I watched Eric walk up to her and say something calmly. He seemed to be passed his temper. Krissy held her arms out and he hugged her for a moment. I couldn’t see my sister’s face as he back was to me, and his was concealed in her hair. And then it looked like she kissed him. I let out a sigh of disappointment. What was she doing? Michael wasn’t someone I would have chosen for her, but he was a million times better than Eric. I didn’t want to watch her shame herself but I felt obligated to make sure she was safe. I scowled as she put her hands on his shoulders and he put an arm around her lower back to pull her close while his other hand was blocked by her body. Then they broke apart and he whispered in her ear before getting in the car and driving off. Krissy just stood there watching the car shrink in the distance and fade in the dark.

Michael:

I had wandered back, moving silently behind Kyle just to see Krissy kiss Eric. I paused and felt confused, as confused as Kyle felt about the child. But then the confusion was replaced with something else. Just sadness. Sadness and disappointment. I turned and moved off, heading off to the kitchen. I disposed of the two cups I had gotten for them before realizing I was just standing there. Eventually I set myself a task in my head, and so I headed off to the bedroom I had been sharing with Krissy. I needed to get into the safe.
