Zombies! (Open)

Kate:

I smiled at their conversation. "I might get a tattoo if I had the chance, I always wanted one." I commented.

"Yeah? See Em. I'm not too crazy." I poked her side and flashed a grin and a wink to Kate.

Kate:

I smiled and chuckled under my breath. "Maybe we can find some temporary tattoos." I said jokingly.

"Temporary tattoos and a sponge. All we need." I called with a soft chuckle.

Kate;

"Or even a sharpie. I was quite the tattoo artist when I was thirteen." I grinned back at Everett. Even in the situation we were in, it felt nice being with more people.

"Oh? You'll have to show me what you can do. I'd take a sharpie tattoo sometime." I admitted with an interested grin.

Kate:

I grinned at him. "Just find me a sharpie." I said with a flirtatious tone. Flirtatious? I hadn't felt like that since before Elijah was born, let alone since the world ended.

"I will get you one as soon as I can then." I promised back my lips flashing into a flirty grin back. I turned to give a quick peak towards the zombies to check on them.

Emily:

I couldn't help but lean around him to look as well. My heart jumped into my throat at the sight. There were several zombies surrounding our car, scattered in the parking lot, and half a dozen bumping into the glass front of the store. I squeezed my brothers arm tighter.

I rubbed Emily's hands on my shoulder gently, trying to sooth her. "Hush now. We've got this. Nothing to worry about at all." I nuzzled my head against hers. "Shall I tell you a story?"

Emily:

I nodded. “Yes please.” I said softly. I wiggled under his arm and leaned against him to listen.

I kept my voice loud enough that Kate could listen in as well. I hardly ever talked about the times I was in the war. I could count on one hand the amount of stories I had told from back then to Emily. So I decided to make this one special by giving her a story from then as well. I told them the story of my friend Vernon, and how he nearly got himself beaten to death by an old lady while trying to help her pick up her things. It was one of my favorite memories, just something about a giant of a man being cowed and intimidated by a woman who barely reached five feet tall.

Kate:

I laid down on the floor with my knees up so Elijah was sitting on my belly and leaning against my legs. The floor was filthy, but so was I, so I just relaxed and listened to stories. After a little while Aiden came out and listened as well.

Since I had so many people listening I varied my stories, my face growing a bit uncomfortable as I spoke of other stories and times.

Kate:

Elijah fell asleep leaning against my legs while I stroked his cheek gently. I closed my eyes as well and tried to imagine Everett in all the stories he was telling. It was a nice distraction.

Emily:

I was listening to every word, many of these stories I had never heard before. I made the appropriate sounds of surprise, or humor, or sadness whenever they were needed and just stayed snuggled against my brother listening. I didn’t even notice that he was uncomfortable telling some of the stories.

Eventually I just grew quiet, my eyes closing as I leaned my head back. I twitched on occasion but otherwise made no outward sign of what I was feeling or thinking.

Kate:

There was a moment of silence before Aiden picked up the torch and started telling stories as well. I added my own every now and then, but I didn’t have the knack that Everett or Aiden seemed to.

Emily:

I listened to their stories, I had none to tell. I hadn’t lived enough to have interesting stories like they did.

I kept my eyes closed, body occasionally twitching. I didn't speak, didn't react to the stories. I simply sat there, lost in my memories with the stories the others told washing over me and filtering in slowly.

Aiden:

I peeked around the corner of an aisle to look at the front. There were still a lone of zombies out front and a cluster of them around the car. The lights was slowly dimming and our prospects of getting out of here soon were low.

“We might have to spend the night here so I’d make yourselves comfortable.” I told the others.

"I will take first watch.". I said softly after reaching to pat my jacket pocket for my pill bottle. It wasn't there.

Emily:

I sat up and hugged my knees, not wanting my brother to leave me, but not willing to ask him to stay just for my own selfish needs.

"I'll be here beside you Emily. Still your favorite pillow right?" I asked giving her a squeeze around the shoulders.

Emily:

I nodded with a little smile. “Can I use your lap as a pillow?” I asked.

I groaned teasingly. "Aw, but your head is so heavy....and you shed...my lap is going to be numb and look like a rug by the time you wake up..." My eyes danced and I kissed her temple to prove I was joking.

Emily:

I giggled and laid my head in his lap. The store was dark now, there was only barely enough light to see by and soon it would all be gone.
