"Yeah, Shade only likes you...well you and Vivian. I tried to get him to come but he didn't want to come." I said giving her hand an apologetic squeeze.

Tabitha:

I nodded. At least there was one who recognized the difference. “That’s okay. I wouldn’t have wanted him to get hurt.” I said softly. I released his hand to go to the bathroom to change.

My heart gave a painful lurch as I let her go. I sat down on the bed and put my head in my hands, battling my emotions.

Tabitha:

I dressed in a soft pink nightgown then washed my face and brushed my teethe before returning to the room. I went to the bed and sat next to him, kissing his shoulder softly.

"You don't trust me." I murmured softly though I put an arm around her side.

Tabitha:

I sighed. “Do you know what it is like to be out of control of your own body? To have your body doing things you have no memory of? Saying things you have no memory of? Being with people you care about? And they can’t always tell the difference, and they let you do whatever you want, whoever you are?” I took a heavy breath. “I can’t even trust myself, Sphinx. How can I trust anyone else?”

"It is a unique feeling...I am universally trusted...well...I don't count the indigo yeti's. But they don't like anyone." I ran a hand over my face. "I'm fading Tabitha." I let the words sink in. "I don't know what happens on the otherside for my race. Wood Nymphs become a tree. One day they grow a seed that becomes the new them. Your race can also give birth to create new ones as you only become a tree after death by old age."

Tabitha:

My throat felt thick. "There has to be something e can do?" I hugged onto his arm and looked up at him with eyes filled with worry.

"I don't know. The...other you was tempted to try using your powers to see if I could absorb some of it." I shrugged my shoulders. "I haven't had a chance to put anything out into the world and see if any of my friends have an idea." I looked down at her, not disguising my exhaustion from her.

Tabitha:

“We can start researching tomorrow. For now, let’s just get some rest okay?” I ran a hand gently through his hair. For now I would push my own problems aside to focus on him.

I nodded slowly, "We can talk about your problems as well...no need to just focus on me. I'm not going anywhere for a while. I promise Tabitha." I lifted a hand to her cheek before glancing down to her bed.

Tabitha:

Grabbing his chin gently, I turned his face to me and kissed him tenderly for a moment. “We can talk more in the morning” I scooted away and laid down on my pillow. “Just get dressed for bed.”

I nodded and stripped out of my shirt before getting out of bed. I went to the dresser and pulled out a pair of soft shorts. I paused on the way to the bathroom to trace her cheek with my hand.

Tabitha:

I smiled softly, watching him go. I curled onto my side, facing the bathroom door.

In the bathroom I stripped the rest of the way and took a moment to look over myself in the mirror. My eyes flicked over my lightly muscled form, the few scars that marred my flesh, the tiny bit of fat I had. I tugged at my hair a bit to straighten it. I shook my head and moved to pull on the soft pants all on their own. I didn't look like I was dying. I was still fit, I was still strong, I looked incredibly healthy in many ways.

I let it pass though, and moved out to join Tabitha. "Permission to sleep in your bed?" I asked like I did every time.

Tabitha:

I nodded slowly. I rolled over and lifted the sheets on his side before holding my arms out to him.

I climbed into bed and moved into her arms while drawing her against me. "I've missed you..." I murmured softly to her.

Tabitha:

I sighed softly then burred my face in his neck as my throat got thick.

I held her close, "I'm sorry...for not making you happy as best I can..."

Tabitha:

“Sphinx, You do make me happy. I’m just worried about you, and about myself. I feel helpless.” I murmured, putting my forehead to his.

I let out a soft breath. "I am coming to understand that feeling more and more...but you will always have me Tabitha..."

Tabitha:

“And you will always have me.” I murmured back, though it wasn’t strictly true, he would probably live much longer than I would, even if things progressed the way they were.

I considered for a moment before touching her cheek. "Will you do me a favor? I want something of yours. Anything...something that I can have that just defines you."

Tabitha:

It only took me a second to think of something. I hopped out of bed and went to my closet. I pulled a heavy bag from the corner and dragged it to the center of the room. “Something that defines me, you say?” I smiled and pulled out a satin pink point shoe. It was one of my least worn ones and still had the pretty pink sheen to it.

I chuckled softly as I looked at the shoe. "A pink shoe? Not the oddest gift I have been given from that request. But certainly within the top five. So why the shoe?" I held my hand out for it with a smile.
