Boarding School for the Mythical

Velaric:

“Well it’s too late to do anything about it now. It happened. She’ll have to get over it somehow. It’ll be worse for her the more she finds out about me anyway. She romanticizes me into something I’m not.” I said with a heavy sigh.

"That tells me nothing about what you think Velaric, and Vivian see's people differently than you might think. I asked about it once, and she tends to see people based on the aura they project. I know for a fact that sometimes she never see's the person beneath. Looks have never been the focus of those she cares about. In some sense you could call her blind." I spread my hands for a moment.

 

"Everyone has an aura. What you are helps shape the aura, what you do textures it, and the color is your personality. How it tints shows your mood. Opacity details strength." I shrugged and narrowed my eyes at him. "If I strain for it, I can catch hints of your aura...but I don't see as she sees."

"Even at the top of my powers it would be a strain to see your aura. It's like trying to grab something just out of reach. You strain and strain for it, but all you can do is brush at it. It doesn't take any effort or use that much power. I just have to push myself." I waved it off and turned to lay on the couch. My knees were propped up on the arm of the couch with my feet hanging off. My head was a scant inch or two from touching Tabitha as I closed my eyes. "I believe Vivian said once that you did. Like two colors, one within the other. Ask her if either of you want to know more."

It was awkward and near impossible to continue sitting there without touching him. Before I knew it my hand was softly curling in his hair.

Velaric:

"Do you think she'll be very mad when she wakes up?" I asked quietly, throwing an arm over my face.

Sphinx:

I made an appreciative sound to her playing with my hair. "Mmm, perhaps. But I think she will be more hurt than anything else. She was crushing hard, and it was a rather cold shock to just wake up and find how casually you viewed her feelings."

Velaric:

“I don’t view her feelings casually.”  I said defensively.  “But there is nothing I can do about them.  Having Lyla over had nothing to do with her.  I just needed stronger blood.  That was all.”

"Blood is one thing Brother. Sex is another." I held up a hand to stop any more defensive protests from him. "Believe me, I don't blame you. I know how difficult it is for you. My best recomindation I can make is try to make it to her. The smallest gesture that you can make to show her you care about her, will mean the absolute world to her."

 

Sphinx:

"I'll give you one guess brother." I remarked with a gesture to Tabitha. "It made more sense to bring her where she could be happy...over taking her some place where she wouldn't be."

"I am exhausted. Getting used to this...condition is going to take some getting used too." I murmured with a pleased expression crossing my face as she stroked my ears.

"If things get worse, I might see if you can do a contract with me." I shifted and scooted up to just place my head in her lap.

"What do you mean?" I asked softly. My heart seemed to pick up when he moved his head into my lap. It was such a simple gesture, but it made me yearn for something I didn't view as mine.

Velaric:

I poured a cup of coffee and fixed it the way Viv liked. I grabbed a couple of shortbread cookies from the pantry as well before taking both to her room. I didn't knock on the door, just went in soundlessly.

"There are ways to transfer energy. Energy and life force is huge in the magical world. The more you have and the better you use it...the better your position can seem. I am...or perhaps was one of the top ten energy users across all races. Vivian is as well. When you can cross many long years for life...you stop getting physical gifts of money...gems...treasure. Instead you are given gifts of energy. It is done through contracts." I nuzzled my head against her leg for a moment.

Vivian:

I was awake and dressed in my phoenix clothes. I was sitting in the corner my knees hugged to my chest. In a metal bowl in front of me a flame moved and danced, though I wasn't looking at it. I could smell the coffee and cookies...and him. But I waited for him to speak.

Velaric:

I set the coffee and cookies on the bedside table then moved slowly to sit as close in front of her as I could. My eyes grazed over her in a moment of silence. In that moment it was clear that she wasn't a young girl, she was an ancient creature. It was a strange feeling young next to her.

"Vivian," I said softly, "I'm am very sorry I hurt your feelings. I would never intentionally hurt you. I care about you very much. In fact, you are my favorite girl."

Vivian:

I didn't lift my head and the fire in the bowl gave a small impatient flick. It's not that I didn't believe him, in fact I believed his words readily. I just didn't know if I wanted too. You are the phoenix, not a child. Behave. A voice chided in my head. I winced at it, recognizing it as a past form in my head. "I have a crush on you..." I said softly, admitting it to myself as well as him with that simple phrase.

Velaric:

I sighed softly. "I know." I said gently. What more could I say? That I liked her? That I had to wait until she was older? That she was in a child's body, and I wouldn't touch her?

Vivian:

He knew? What did he feel though, if he knew how I felt. I struggled with that for a time uncertain what I should say or do. The voice whispering to me in my ear, wasn't any help. I drew in a slow deep breath through my nose. "That had better be made right..." I told him as the fire in the bowl faded out and I lifted my head.

Vaelarc:

"What do you want me to do Vivian?" I asked softly and a little helplessly.

"I don't know! Do you think I'm doing any better at this? I have memories flashing through my head of people I've married or dated or slept with in past lives. But none of them register as anything to me! But then I look at you, and I feel all...I dunno mushy and happy and..." I floundered and flailed my arms a little as I looked at him. "I don't know if I should act like a kid, like an adult, like someone else. I have too many conflicting memories in my name. I can't stop or help it okay!"

Velaric:

I watched her while she spoke not saying a word. When she finished, I heaved yet another sigh and stood up. "Get up, we're going out. Sphinx and Tabitha are here and we're all going to have a good Christmas together." I told her.
