Boarding School for the Mythical

I blinked at him from the bed, letting my powers go. I felt a wall of tiredness wash over me, and my eyes drooped immidiately. "You watch me at night anyway...just come in and lay down for a while..." I murmured sleepily, trying to fight the sleepiness without my powers.

Velaric:

It was tempting, in more ways than one. But I kept myself at the door, not crossing the line into her room. “Go to sleep Vivian.” I told her firmly. My voice was compelling and persuasive, it was a vampire talent that gave us the power of command.

I stepped into the room for a second to clasp the door handle to pull it closed.

I pouted at him as he refused and told me to go to sleep. Without my powers going the compulsion in his voice made my eyes droop the rest of the way and the last thing I remembered was the door closing behind him. I curled up and bunched his shirt up near my nose so I could breath his scent while I slept.

Velaric:

I shook my head to clear it then headed to the kitchen. I wasn’t hungry, but I wanted blood. I paused at the fridge. I felt the need for something stronger, then cursed myself when my mind immediately went to what was sleeping in the other room.

I sent a text to a… blood source. Vampires had always been a fascination of humans, in some cases an obsession. Sometimes the obsession was in killing us for sport or religious reasons, other times the obsession was in being used by us. There were certain people who would seek out Vampires and offer them their blood, usually in return for something that would feed their obsession. These humans were a vampires dream. They were safer than feeding off of other humans or creatures, because they knew how to handle a feeding vampire, and when to make it stop. Not to mention that their payment was something vampires enjoyed anyway.

The girl I contacted had been introduced to me by a friend, and she seemed to have an infatuation with me. I rarely called her, because I didn’t like to feed off of the living. But sometimes I felt week.

Vivian:

I stirred and slowly sat up. I rubbed at my eyes and looked around for a moment trying to place what had happened to wake me up. My eyes focused for a moment on the time. The sun still had several hours before it would be up, so it wasn't that...I didn't have to go to the bathroom. I hadn't had a bad dream, in fact I was having a very entertaining dream with Velaric...and then it hit me. Or my ears finally clued in on the sound. Sex. It had to be. I crawled out of bed and I felt a hammer hit my heart. I thought Velaric had liked me. I thought he knew I liked him and was waiting for when I got older...

Anger and hurt washed over me, rising up with my powers. Around me like a heatwave, the sight of things distorted as I yanked open my door.

Velaric:

Her name was Lyla, she had long blond hair and a nearly perfect body, and she was much, much louder than I remembered her being. It was amazing how much you noticed when you had someone else in the other room.

Afterwards, she got off the bed and pulled on a very sheer pink robe. “Want anything else to drink?” She asked with a velvet little giggle as she pulled aside the robe to show the red puncture marks at the base of her neck. I shook my head and moved to pull on my dark green pants. She went to the door, I assumed, to go to the kitchen to get something to drink.

I stood trembling with my eyes closed in the middle of the living room. I couldn't stop being able to hear them, and with the silence that followed I could hear a quiet feminine voice and it felt like my heart took another hit. A rational part of me knew that I should have expected this, but that didn't mean I had to like it. I felt betrayed and hurt, and I simply didn't know what to do. When I felt the woman's aura come closer my eyes snapped opened and I stared at her.

Lyla stopped in the middle of the room and stared at the girl in surprise. “You startled me sweet heart, I didn’t realize there was someone else here…” She said quietly.

Velaric:

I groaned inwardly when I heard Lyla talking to Vivian in the other room. I followed her out, still only wearing the pants.

I had to look at her and I regretted instantly. It would have been easier if she wasn't attractive, but she was and it just pointed out all of the shortcomings I had physically. "Who are you?" I asked, power thrumming through my voice as my power continued to roar through me. I wanted to sit down, I wanted to cry, I wanted to hit her and Velaric. But I just stood there.

Velaric:

“Lyla, I’m a-“ She started. “She’s a friend of mine. And this is Vivian, she’s close with Sphinx.” I explained to Lyla, she had only met him once, but I talked about him quite a bit. “Oh! Nice to meet you!” She smiled at Vivian. It was hot in the room, very hot. Lyla wouldn’t notice, her body temperature was much higher than mine, considering I was cold blooded. “Viv you should go back to bed.” I told her.

I was close with Sphinx? Was that all I was to Velaric? Being Sphinx friend? That hurt more than I expected. In fact it hurt worse than knowing he was having sex with someone when I thought he was waiting for me to grow up. A small chirp escaped my lips as tears that were boiling hot started rolling down my cheeks. The power that had been building and raging inside me started to fight its way out, but in an instant a wash of power ran over me, cocooning me and dampening my rage. The feelings were still there but it was no longer effecting my power. I felt the coolness of the room as even my power to stay warm faded. I swayed and then started to collapse, my eyes on the door where Sphinx was standing, having come into the room and stopped my powers from showing why I was called 'The Phoenix.'

Velaric:

I was behind her in a second, holding her up before she could fall. I didn’t think about being burned when I moved to catch her, I did it without thinking for myself. But her skin was surprisingly cool, and I scooped her up into my arms effortlessly.

I stood in the doorway. I knew vampires were known for being promiscuous, but it was still surprising to see a girl in racy robe that barely concealed her body standing in the middle of the room. “Hi, you should leave.” I told her. I didn’t know Vivian well, but I could guess she wouldn’t handle seeing that girl well. Besides, we couldn’t have an adventure with her there.

Vivian:

I knew who was holding me, I could tell by the cold feeling of his body. "I thought you liked me..." I murmured softly at him, my eyes closed.

Sphinx:

"Yes please leave, nice to see you and all Lyla. But I have things to discuss, and you seem to have finished what you came here to do." I stepped across the room and went to the kitchen, I came back with one of Vivian's juice bottles.

The girl looked mildly offended but the turned to go back to the room and retrieve her stuff. She came back moments later in a evening dress looked us all over then left without a word. I moved to sit on the couch watching the fuss over Vivian.

Velaric:

I could have played it off and told her that of course I liked her, she was my friend. But I knew what she meant and there was really no way I could deny it. “She’s just an acquaintance Viv, it doesn’t mean a thing. Not a thing. You shouldn’t be upset.” I told her softly.

"You have sex with acquaintances?" I murmured softly curling up more in his arms and hiding my face against him. I gave a tiny tremble, and I slowly warmed up in his arms as my power came back to me.

Velaric:

“Sex doesn’t mean anything. Not always. It didn’t mean anything with her.” I said with a little shrug. I wondered how she would feel knowing about all the people I had been with, some of which had been after I had known her.

Sphinx:

I waved a hand and Vivian went limp. "Let's try not to stress out the walking ball of fire while you are holding her Velaric. Any one can see that she has a crush on you brother. Saying things like, what you just did...not in your best interest. Go put her to bed alright?" I moved over to the couch and sat down heavily, running a hand through my hair tiredly.

I turned toward Sphinx as he sat down next to me. Velaric took Vivian back to her room and came back seconds later but I had my eyes on Sphinx. I wanted to touch him, to put my arm around him, to run my fingers through his hair, to hold his hand, but I didn’t really like he was mine, or that I had the right.

Sphinx:

I felt both their eyes on me, but I didn't speak. I felt drained and stretched thin, and in front of these two I knew I couldn't really hide anything.

Velaric:

I sat down in the chair across from them. It wasn’t hard to tell which girl was here. The fact that she wasn’t glaring at me was a dead giveaway. “You shouldn’t have exhausted yourself.” I said softly.

I actually laughed at that. But it wasn't a happy laugh. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned...and she was smoldering brother. That takes on a whole new meaning when you are dealing with The Phoenix." I shook my head and let out a shaky breath.

“I could have helped.” I said softly. “I could have stopped her.” I had a lot more power like this, and I could control it. I had power that Nymphs usually didn’t have.

"Perhaps..." I tilted my head back to the ceiling before opening the bottle of juice and taking a long drink from it. "I'm sorry. I am used to being the strongest one in any room. Either in raw power or in control. I think...at this point I have to admit even to myself that I am no longer what I once was." I grimaced and ran a hand down my face. "I will work on that, as for dealing with Vivian..." My eyes moved to Velaric, "What happened?"

Velaric:

I sighed and leaned back in the chair, looking up at the ceiling. “It gets really hard to resist with children sometimes. You know it does. And she wanted me to lay down with her…” If it were anyone else I wouldn’t have been saying these things. I hated myself for being weak. “I thought it would be easier if I had something living here besides her. Fresh blood is more satisfying than stored.”

Sphinx:

I gave him a sympathetic glance. For Tabitha's benifit I said, "Imagine the sweetest, tastiest thing you can imagine. That is the draw a child's blood has for a vampire. It is even worse if you toss in the power that would be flowing through Vivian's veins." I ran a hand over my arm for a moment. "You're strong Vel, but you have to realize...Vivian's feelings matter as well. Ah...this is a tough one."
