Boarding School for the Mythical

I curled up on the bed when he set me down. The fox was nowhere to be seen now, he didn’t like me. I put my face in my hands and fought the urge to cry. “But how can you feel the same for us? We aren’t the same, not anymore.” I whispered.

I sat down beside her. "Because I am the Sphinx. I don't play by any normal rules." I kept rubbing at her back, side, petting her hair. Anything I could do to try to help and make her happy.

I took my face out of my hands and hugged my knees. “I’m going to ruin Christmas for everyone. They don’t want me here, they just want her.” I said miserably.

"Hush. Christmas isn't ruined. I will take care of it alright?" I promised, leaning down to kiss the top of her head.

“It is ruined. They hate me. My sister –Dory- used to hold me down when I would surface when I was younger. She wouldn’t let me do anything until I let the other one come back. Her and Ari both. They would lock me in my room, or put me in a cold shower, trying to change me back.” I said in a rush. I had no strong feelings for my older sister and brother. My mom, while she never treated me badly, she wouldn’t stop them, so I had mixed feelings about her. The only one I actually did like was my little sister, and she had been too young to understand what was happening with me. Now she might treat me differently if she knew.

"So let's go. This christmas, let me treat you to a special one." I offered her softly, pulling her onto my lap. "No one should be sad on a holiday."

I looked up at his face. “You actually want to leave?” I asked in surprise. “Where would we go?”

"Anywhere, we could go check on Viv and my brother. We could go visit some of the sights and wonders I know in the magical world." I spread my hands helplessly. "I don't know. I can make amends to the family later. But for now, I need...no I want to make you happy."

A small smile quirked at my lips when I realized he really meant it. “Let’s get Velaric and Vivian. Whatever we do, let’s do it together.” I said. I had begun to really like the vampire, he seemed to be able to get the separation between me and my other self in a way that no one else did.

"Alright, come on." I replied with a gentle smile. I offered my arms out to her, for a hug or if she wanted she could take my hands to help her up.

I took his hands and got up. “We’re going now?” I asked. I wasn’t remotely tired, and on second thought, it made sense if we were going to get Velaric and Vivian.

"Better now while everyone is going to bed than in the morning when everyone is awake." I remarked gently. "I doubt we will be able to get away with not being caught. But, we can try at least." I gave her hand a squeeze then went to the door cracking it open and calling softly for Shade. "Shade, come on, we are going to go see Velaric and Viv. I'm sure Viv has some more treats for you."

Shade perched on the pillow of his girl's old bed. She wasn't herself, he knew simply by the way she looked at him, not to mention her body language had changed, and she smelled different. But she looked at him with no particular fondness, so he showed none to her, simply staring at the two of them, unmoving.

I turned and spotted Shade I moved over and held out my arms. "Come on. I know you don't like her...but would you rather stay here? Or go and spend some time with Vivian for a bit."

The fox skulked off the bed and with a deliberate look at Sphinx, he slipped under the bed. “That’s how they all feel about me.” I muttered dully.

Sphinx:

I sighed softly, "Come on buddy. Last chance to go with us. Vivian will like seeing you, and I know you enjoy the warmth of her at night." I offered the fox before getting to my feet. "Come on Tabitha."

I followed him wordlessly

Velaric:

It was getting late and I had kept a close eye on Vivian for signs of tiredness. Currently we were sitting on the floor, coloring in books with the thousands of different colored pencils I had bought her.

Vivian:

I had crossed the point of being tired, having stayed up late the night before in excitement for today. I was using my powers to burn energy through me and I was nibbling at my tenth cookie to keep up my calories before I burned them all away.

Velaric:

“Viv, it’s time for you to go to bed.” I told her, pausing in my coloring of a heavily detailed castle.

I blinked up at him and shook my head stubbornly. "Nuh uh. I am going to get used to staying up late. I don't want you to be alone during the holidays." I stared up at him with my violet eyes, willing him to argue with me about it.

Velaric:

I smiled softly and shook my head. “I’m not alone. You’ll still be here even you’re asleep.” I got to my feet easily and went around to lift her to hers, careful to only touch her through the fabric of her shirt.

I made a face at him then my face clouded in concentration. Before he could move away I placed a warm hand on his arm. I was learning to control myself, because I wanted to hug him without hurting him. So long as I concentrated my heat was held in check. "Are you going to stay up all night watching me again?" For anyone else that might have sounded creepy, but I knew better. He was a vampire, and that was just something he did. It was sweet, and cute of him, and was a big reason as to why I had gotten my little crush on him.

Velaric:

I raised my eye brows at her. “I always stay up all night.” I said in a way of dismissal to her question. I hadn’t known that she knew I had watched her. It was hard not to. She was so alive, and the air around her was intoxicating. “Now off to bed with you.” I rubbed her back for a second before pushing her in the direction of the spare bedroom that had been Sphinx’s.

I gave a sigh but obeyed. Instead of heading for my room I detoured to Velaric's room coming out with one of his shirts in my hands. I poked my tongue out at him before entering the bathroom and changing for bed. I slid on his shirt, which went to mid thigh. I abandoned the bra but kept the panties before brushing my teeth. When I felt I was fully ready I left the bathroom and crooked a finger in his direction for him to come with me as I entered my room. I skipped over to the bed and climbed right in to burrow under the covers.

Velaric:

I told myself not to but I followed her anyway. I leaned against her doorway, not fully entering the room. “Good night Vivian.” I said softly.
