Boarding School for the Mythical

"No. When it was placed inside you. You had the food of your breakfast still on your face." I did my best to ignore her tone about my best friend.

 

"Ah shit." I murmured and winced. "I swear I am going to kill Jensen...the foolish foolish man..."

 

I looked her right in the eyes as I said quietly. "Ask your father about Jensen and why you have not been told. It is not my place."

 

My eyes flashed dangerously for a moment before I closed my eyes and rubbed my face. "No one told you...why would no one tell you...this was never my place to be the one...I was against it all from the start..."

 

In a flash I was on my feet behind her. A not so gentle push and she was on the bed so I could pace the length of her room in peace. I didn't speak at first I simply paced with my teeth gritted and jaw working. Eventually I stopped and stared at my reflection in the mirror. My shoulders began to quiver and I finally spoke. "I will tell you. But then that is it. I will not trouble your life again." I gripped my hands together behind my back, fingers going white at the strength I clenched them together. "Once upon a time, there was a girl. She lived in a world of strife and horror but she felt kindness in her heart for the world. She prayed to the gods to save the world from its pain, to remove all that ails the world and its people. The gods listened and inspected her heart to see that she truly desired to help the world. And so they gathered all the bad in the world and bound it up into a box. They could not remove the box from the world so they gave it to the girl with one command. Never to open the box. The girl wandered the world, and soon it was common to know the site of the girl Pandora and her box. The world began to prosper as all the bad things in the world were sealed away. But as time wore on, the girl felt more and more curious about the box and what might be inside for the gods hadn't told her what they had done. In the end she took a small peek and released Seven sins upon the world once more, as well as Death. The simple act of peeking killed Pandora but her box remained. To look in the box is too great a temptation for the world, and so it came to be that a new container was searched out." I drew in a slow breath and let it out. "Two plans were put forth. One was to seal the evils inside the box into an innocent child. The other plan was to seal it all with one who could give his life and all his powers of creation to destroy all the evil within. A council was formed to discuss the plans, but one man. Jensen believed that he was right with his plan and so in secret he found the perfect child and brought it to the meeting. If it were not for your father standing in the middle of that room with you. I would have ended Jensen and the box right there. What is one life given so that no more would be troubled by the worse evils in the box. I am one of the few who were around as a child before Pandora saved us. The world was a cruel place. But because of one man, you bear the burden and will for the rest of your life." I turned to face her finally, rage plain in my eyes. "You stand there yelling, threatening, and accusing. I never wanted you to be a part of it. I would have died like the rest of my kind and you would have grown up without knowing. Blame your parents, blame Jensen. But do not blame me."

 
 

"I knew, Vivian knew, your mother knew. Your father carried you into the chamber so of course he knew." I said softly, hands still clasped behind me.

"Ah the protective side. And I shouldn't have. But since no one else was, it fell upon me to do so." I shrugged my shoulders and watched her through lidded eyes.

“She didn’t need to know…  If she loses herself…  I won’t be able to contain it…  I almost lost control when she was bitten.  It went through both of us.”  I said with a little shudder.  “I’m not fool proof.  I can be broken.  Jensen was wrong.”

Sphinx:

I just dropped to the floor, sitting tailor style with my back straight and my hands on my knees. "Sit in front of me." My voice was not the tone of a suggestion, but a tone of command.

I closed my eyes and my aura appeared around me. I slid it and expanded it until she was inside it as well. I was searching into her, going deep into her core to feel the things locked inside. All she would feel was my presence surrounding her.

I suddenly felt warmer and calmer- for a moment before something recoiled within me. It was a separate feeling, like when I felt my other self starting to come back. But this was different, this was a harder sicker feeling. I seized up rejecting the outside intrusion, the warm calming feeling, I didn't want it anywhere near me.

I withdrew and stared at her chest. My gaze was still unfocused, but I was pondering what I had learned. If she moved my eyes would not, I was deep enough in my thoughts for that.

I doubled over and hugged my arms around my stomach. I felt queasy, not just in my stomach, but in my entire body. I tasted bile mixed with blood in my mouth. I gave a soft moan and put my head between my knees.

I frowned at her reaction and I set a hand on her back rubbing gently. "Tabitha...talk to me. What are you feeling?"

"You explained to me before that you are Tabitha as well." I remarked gently, getting up and retrieving a small trash can. I set it beside her and continued to rub her back.

"I care about both of you, Once I would have but I have found that you are one and the same. One just looks after the whole better." I remarked quietly. Without asking permission I picked her up off the ground and cradled her close as I carried her over to the bed.
