Boarding School for the Mythical

Vivian:

"No! You have to get away!" I said with eyes going wide as Tabitha came up to me. She couldn't use her powers, the Lich could stop one of us, but Lich's were pure evil...he wouldn't hesitate to harm one of us to weaken the other.

“I said get away from her. Get the hell away.” I growled at him. My powers flared up surging through me even more than before. I would normal have been nervous about an altercation like this, but my power made me feel confident. I could do anything I wanted to. This man was nothing compared to me.

The Lich sneered. "Down you whore. Or else I will hurt the little girl you seem so intent on protecting." He waved his hand and a gasp erupted from my throat as I was forced to my knees and I felt like my skin was freezing slowly.

Kill him, A voice whispered to me. It would be so easy. I gasped and shook my head. I wasn't a killer, I wouldn't do that. I was frozen in place. Could I trust myself not to kill him if I used my power? I could control it... This was the proof Sphinx had wanted. I reached into my power and let some out. The light all around us grew bright then shattered, raining little glass fragments down on us. It also broke any magical hold he had on her.

"Get the hell away from her. Get out. Don't come back. You don't want to see what happens if you don't do as I say." I growled. It was taking all of my control not to incinerate him on the spot.

Vivian:

I dropped to the snow, curling into a ball as I let my power wash over me in flames. I was cold....I didn't like feeling cold. I opened my eyes to watch as the Lich laughed and brought his powers to life. Shades began to materialize as I shivered and shook.

Dealing with the shades was easy enough, I sent powerful beams of light at each of them as they arose. That’s not going to do anything as long as he is here, I heard in my mind. I turned my gaze to the Lich. “Last warning, go now and I won’t hurt you.” I told him, my voice dark. My power was begging me to it, it would even take much to destroy him… Surely he could see that in me?

The Lich smiled and gestured with his hands. "You kneel girl and I won't harm your friend....much more at least." I felt another wash of cold through me, the chill of death as phantom claws rose from the ground and slashed at me.

Snow started swirling around us as the wind picked up. I stepped forward, my boots crunching on glass. “Do you know who you’re talking to? How dare you tell me to kneel, Lich. You’re as good as a bug under my shoe.” I heard myself growl. "You should have seen me and fled. Look again, I want you to see who I am before I kill you." I grinned, except it wasn't me, I wasn't doing this. My skin grew red and scaled over, my fingers turned to claws. I watched as I reached out a long hand and curled it around the throat of the scum in front of me. I was frozen in my mind, helpless to stop what was happening. As I squeezed, I turned his blood to acid which ate him away from the inside. He was dead before he even had time to scream.

The horror of it shocked me. I dropped him, my skin returning to normal. His body fell and puddled in a sickening way. I shrieked.

Velaric:

I heard the scream from a distance, but I was moving the instant I heard it. It was one of the girls, I knew it. It only took me a few seconds to reach her. I took in the scene around me. They were in the dark, snow was swirling furiously around them. Vivian was on the ground, she had no heat coming from her, that was wrong. And Tabitha wouldn’t stop screaming.

Vivian:

I fought to my feet moving over to tackle Tabitha to the ground. I placed both hands over her mouth as I shivered and trembled. "Tabitha...you are o-okay...calm down...I'm here...you were a-amaz-zing...." My teeth were chattering and I was swaying a little above her.

Velaric:

I moved to kneel beside them. Tabitha stopped screaming once Vivian tackled her, but her eyes were still wide with horror. There was a crumpled horribly misshapen body lying close to them, it was clearly dead, and the smell of it sickened me. There was no blood.

“Viv, what happened? Are you okay?” I asked urgently, putting an arm around her shoulders.

I panted softly, and shivered not even feeling Vel's touch around my shoulders. I blew out a breath the breath not even fogging the cold air. I needed warmth, so I settled more against Tabitha, hoping to get some of her warmth.

Tabitha:

I didn’t react to Vivian and Velaric, I was focused on controlling my power. It took physical effort to hold it in. My body was still buzzing from the amount of power that had flooded through it. I couldn’t even feel Vivian, so cold on top of me.

"W-warmth....I need warmth...." I chattered as I laid down on her, pressing my face against the skin of her neck.

Tabitha:

I realized that Vivian was in trouble if she was that cold. I could feel her icy nose on my neck. I could help her, I knew I could, but then I would have to let go for a while. With a heavy sigh I let my power glide into her, replenishing her warmth and her energy. Seconds after I released my hold on my mind and body and passed out.

Velaric:

"Viv? Tabs?" I asked and hand on Vivian's back. I felt the energy buzzing around the two of them and quickly recoiled.

"L-lich." I stammered out still feeling chilled even with warmth and energy flooding my body. I scrambled off of Tabitha and tried to bring my own powers under control. The flood of warmth was playing havoc with my powers.

Velaric:

I wanted to pull her into my arms and hold her close, but that could be dangerous for both of us. I crouched down a few feet away from her. I looked over at the puddle of flesh, it must have been the Lich. I sighed deeply and pulled out my phone to make a call.

I brought my powers under control slowly but I was still trembling, feeling sick and unwell. I wanted to be held, I wanted to be near someone, feeling something. I had nearly died. Permanently. I could always be reborn again so long as my ashes were warm. But if I got too cold I died, and my ashes would share the temperature of my death. It was why when I died I blazed hot. To make sure I didn't fade out entirely.

Velaric:

I spoke a few words into the phone then hung up. “Vivian? Are you going to be okay?” I asked softly, getting as close to her as I dared.

I suppressed my powers with difficulty giving a small shudder. "Sick...I'm going to be sick...nearly died for real...."

Velaric:

I reached out to her. “Vivian, what can I do for you?” I asked, brushing her shoulder with my fingertips.

"H-hold me?" I asked softly, looking up at his eyes as tears leaked out of my own.

Velaric:

I looked at her for a moment then pulled her into my arms without saying a word. I held her firmly but not tight enough to cause discomfort. “It’s okay, don’t cry.” I murmured to her. She didn’t even feel as warm as she usually did.

I hid my face in his chest, for once letting his scent fully wash over me instead of letting my powers deal with it in its own way. I wasn't an ancient being right now. I was a terrified little girl.

Velaric:

I felt ashamed. I should have gone after her, I should never have let her run off on her own, she was still a girl after all. She could have died after all, and that would have been on me. My hand was at the back of her neck, holding her head to my chest. “I’m so sorry.” I murmured to her.

I shook my head and just held onto him, trembling. I was slow to calm down and his apology brought out a fresh wave of emotions.
