Perfect School

Kira:

I let out a soft breath, turning my head towards the door as it opened. "Good, someone I can spar with for real." I released the man's shirt I had been holding, letting him collapse back. "Ben, if you want to evaluate me. Don't bring useless people. Jonah is my match and better. You are welcome to tell my patron that." I folded my arms and stepped over and around five prone figures to lean against the wall beside a man sipping from a mug in a large stuffed chair.

Jonah:

I paused when I came into the room. The scene before me was nothing like I had been expecting. I thought Kira would be training alone, no one else at the school would have dared to train with her. My eyes grazed over the unconscious bodies on the floor, none of these people were from the school. I looked to the man in the chair.

"Should I return later?" I asked clearly, my voice carrying. The the man in the chair seemed to be the one in charge, I addressed Kira.

"Well at least he is alright with surprises." Ben rumbled and offered a lazy smile to Jonah. "Care to show what you can do then boy?"

I flexed my fingers and stepped over the bodies to stand in the center of the room. One of the men moved, grabbing my leg as I moved over him. Without much of a pause I brought my other leg down, a resounding crack filling the air as I broke his arm. The man screamed but I silenced it by lifting my other leg out of his grip and slamming my foot into the side of his head. He gurgled before he was out and I kept moving as if nothing had happened. "Care to spar Jonah? Not for placement. For training."

"My oh my...aren't we as cold as ever.....hmm......" The man murmured before taking a small sip from his cup.

Jonah:

I watched impassively. Kira was always cold, but she didn't seem quite that cold. She must be trying to prove something to this man, there was something about that I didn't like.

"Alright." I said nonchalantly with a little shrug of my shoulders. My gaze was clamped on Kira while I walked to meet her in the center. As I stepped over a body, he groaned, but I ignored it.

"This isn't a fight for control Jonah, this is a spar." I said, raising my hands into a ready position, one foot shifting as I settled into a stance.

"Hm, a good spar deserves a prize at the end. Jonah was it? Do well, impress me and we will see about adding you to a special program that I was just going to have Kira do at the request of my boss." Ben called from his chair as he shifted his bulk.

Jonah:

That intrigued me, and I understood Kira's attitude now. "It would be my pleasure." I said in response to the man in the chair. A soft smile curled my lips as I faced Kira and readied myself.

Kira:

I wasted no time to duel him. We matched and countered equally. Jonah was my equal and my greater, just as I was his. Sweat coated our limbs, and at one point we were in a grapple position, trying to engage the other and bring them down. I had the better position and leverage, but he has the raw strength to match. My face was inches from his, my eyes locked with his. My expression was blank but my eyes held something else, it was faint but for him it was probably a blazing symbol. I was happy.

While I was grappling trying to bring him down just as equally as he was I felt my strength start to flag out. I cursed inwardly and it was either by luck or mercy that Ben called out. "That's enough. That was interesting...very interesting..." My hold relaxed on his but I didn't move, didn't bring myself away from him.

Jonah:

I moved her carefully off of me and helped her up as I stood. Had it been my imagination that I felt her weakening slightly at the end? I knew of her health issues now, I'd hate that to flavor my thoughts toward her.

My blood was pumping through me, I could feel the heavy pulse in my entire body. It felt good. I had enjoyed the spar every bit as much as she had. Maybe more considering my... interest in her. It was amazing to have someone who was my equal.

I stayed near him as I turned my eyes to Ben as he reguarded us both silently. "I approve of your choice Kira. Go and get us something to drink, you know what I like and I'm sure you can get him what he likes." His eyes were focused on Jonah but that didn't bother me. I simply patted Jonah on the shoulder before leaving.

Ben:

"What is your interest in Kira Jonah?" I asked as I set the cup aside and clasped my hands together.

 

Ben:

I leaned forward to reguard Jonah. "I want you to take a look at the men around you. Two U.S. special forces, One Russian KGB agent, Two Israeli Mussad officers, Two Canadian Special forces." I counted off as I watched him. "I would say Kira is better than you, but you are not without skill yourself. But I think there is a difference between you two. Kira is under limiters at this school or else she would break every student here. First limiter, is she can not kill or permanently maim anyone. Second limiter, is she must do as told by the teachers. She told me about the spar for first place...and I know the rules of it. She followed her limiters and the rules of the spar. That let you win and beat her. With no rules, no limiters...you would be much like these men here." I focused on his eyes. "I have one question for you Jonah, but I will hold it as I am sure you have questions and comments yourself. Impress me Jonah, there are many things I can make come true for you if you do."

 
 
 

"I work for the same person who sponsored Kira. So what would it cost? You work for her. Not forever, but only until your usefulness has been proven and the debt of service repaid. You will gain the will of Kira's Patron, and all the perks that come of it. You want to be better than anyone else? You want the money and the training to do anything? We can provide." I narrowed my eyes at him and then smiled. "If you want Kira...we can arrange that. There is little we can not accomplish. We will buy your sponsorship from the school, and you will join Kira in special training."

"My question for you is...what are your dreams and what will you pay to achieve them?" I laughed softly and waited.

Jonah:

“I’ll do whatever it takes.”  I said simply.  “I want to be the best I can be, If you can offer me what I need to make that happen, than you can have what you want.  I am sure I can impress you.  I am sure I can exceed your expectations.  I will not be a disappointment.”  I smiled at that.  I wasn’t being cocky, I was being honest.  I wasn’t going to say that in ten years I expected to be in his position, and in the years after that, his leaders position.  That’s what I wanted.

"Glad to hear it...then we will have to begin your training at once Jonah...I do believe that my boss will enjoy your company one day...for now, get yourself ready for some training. I will have an instructor here within an hour." I replied as I stood slowly while Kira came walking in with two water bottles and a cup of coffee.

 
 
 

"Stop your smirking, it was a spar not a win or lose Jonah." I said as I tossed him a waterbottle and brought the cup over to Ben. He accepted it gratefully before speaking. "Jonah has agreed to join you in your training. He will be trained and taught along side you."

I blinked at that before nodding and turning to Jonah. "I see." Was all I replied as I watched him. What was his motive? Why was he doing this? I wanted to ask, but orders are orders.

 
 

"Leave them." Ben said with a small gesture of his hands. "They can leave when they can pick themselves up." I shrugged my shoulders and sipped at my water.

 

"You are good, but you could be better." I stated simply as I watched him. With Ben gone the ice walls faded slightly. "But this isn't something you should be getting into. My patron can destroy you if you displease her by the slightest degree. Failure is no longer an option for you. You have sold your soul Jonah. I hope you are ready for it."

I took took another sip of my water as I watched him. "Do you want my advice?"

Jonah:

I smiled at her words.  “I don’t plan on displeasing anyone.  I’m not going to fail Kira.”  I said her name softly without noticing it.  It pleased me that she had thought to warn me first, some part of her must have cared for her to say that.  “What is your advice?”  I asked, watching her.

"Get better. You debated with me once about ethics on treating others. This school holds you back, relying on the others will hold you back. Working as a team is one thing, but now you are stepping into a world beyond the others." I watched him for a moment before letting out a soft breath. "My patron will enjoy having you work for her. I do not doubt that, but be prepared for the price that this will cost you."

Jonah:

I nodded. "I'm prepared." I told her. "But I still want to know how you feel about it? You've expressed your concern for me," I smiled at her. "But I want to know what you think about me joining you, on your end."

"On my end?  It doesn't change a damn thing.  My words have been and will continue to be, if you prevent me from serving and completing the missions given to me and I will cut you down."  I said with out a hint of emotion.  I paused for several seconds before saying in a quiet voice, my gaze softening by a hair as did my voice.  "As for personally...it doesn't change a thing.  But perhaps now there is someone I can rely on."
