i looked at her unsure... then I handed her the burning branch

"Can you find your way back without it?" I asked and held it far away from me.

"follow the sound of the drunk idiots about fifty meters back? I'll be fine"

"Thank you." I nodded and gave a tiny smile. "Well, if we ever see each other again, let's at least hope it's more civilized than this."

i nodded "good luck on getting that farm"

I rolled my eyes a bit, how unladylike of me but he didn't seem to mind. "Good luck on getting that farm of yours as well." I said and dipped my head, heading down the path.

i watched as the light faded before following the noise back to camp

I glanced back once and frowned. He wasn't still there... I turned my attention back to the path and continued to walk. It wasn't far, just a few more minutes... Then of course I'd get lectured about being home on time.

when I got back people were moving about, getting ready for an early morning raid on a near by plantation... this didn't sound good

I got home and discarded the almost out stick in the fountain. I did my best to smooth out my dress and fix my hair to make it look like it was just a walk. They wouldn't believe if I got lost...

i was commanded into the ranks armed with a rifle and revolver and pushed up into a saddle... At least I got to be on a horse

((Back! Sorry, I got grounded until this afternoon and just got my laptop back.))
I walked inside and managed to slip past the evening tea parlor. Oh the years of learning to be silent to go to the stables.. Byt the time I managed to get upstairs, I ran to my room and shut the door, laying on my bed. Today, was, the most interesitng day I have experienced yet...

we moved quickly down the trail which later on merged with another more familiar one, I had warned her earlier but now it was happening, I hoped she was ready

I rolled over and sat up off my bed, walking over towards the screen and quickly changed. I walked back into my room and took my brush, walking towards the window and opening it. I saw something and squinted. Was that- lights?

i looked at the passing ground and rode at the back of the group hoping I wouldnt be told to do anything

I squinted again and my eyes went wide. They were lights! I stuck my head back in and placed my brush down. Oh no, I knew I should've actually listened. "He was right." I whispered and covered my mouth.

we adavnced quickly but i still let my horse drag behind

I listened and heard horses. Oh no. Not my plantation. I threw my door open and ran downstairs. "We're under attack!" I warned and my father stood instantly, ushering my mother sister and I upstairs. This was going to end bad I just knew it.

it was just a raid and seizure, not really an attack. The slaves were given a chance to follow us, not that their lives would be any better, and be free

I saw my father grab his gun and I shook my head. He ran towards the slave quaters and I ran after him. "Father wait!" I yelled and stopped the moment I was outside.

we had lined up along the front yard just about surrounding the main house

I looked ahead of me, my eyes wide in horror. I slowly walked over to my father and took his arm. "Please just out your gun down. You don't need it." I said and touching his hand.

i was shaking in my saddle... The fear on their faces... the dead silence, none of it was what i wanted

I shook my head and pushed a bit harder on his hand until the gun was lowered. I heard Olivia cry and I turned around, scooping her up in my arms. "Mother?" I asked and she hugged me, her eyes fixed on the army.

I couldnt move. I wanted to leave but would be shot, I wanted to help these people, they were from my side but i could be hanged.... I wished I could dissappear
