Jemma:  

"Yeah, but the thing is they are better off with you and if you're not there any more it will be worse that is was before they ever knew you because then you would be missing you.." I said while looking at the ground.  I was really talking about myself, the kids were young, and they had each other, they would probably get over it. 

I moved closer to her. "What arent you telling me. I trust you no matter what it is."

Jemma: 

"Why do you think I came here?" I asked suddenly.  I had asked before but he was worn out then, now he could think about it. 

I paused uncertainly. A bit taken aback by her question. I looked down as i tried to puzzlecit out invmy head. I looked up when i had a guess in my head.

Jemma:

I sighed frowning at the ground.  I didn't like this, it made me uncomfortable, besides even if he did guess it's not like I could act on it.  My heart beat painfully. 

Icupper her chin in a hand and made her look at me. "Explain...please..." i whispered softly looking into her eyes.

Jemma:

I shook my head slightly then looked up.  "I care about you Michael," I said slowly.  "A lot." 

I felt my pulse speed up as i asked. "But?"

Jemma:

I looked back into his eyes.  "But I'm tied to someone else.  I've told you that before.  And I'd doubt he would just let me go that easily." I said said with a sigh.  

Michael

"So why not let me go? It would be better for you." I said softly.

Jemma:

"I don't see how it would be better to lose some one I care about.  Having you around at all is better than always wishing you were there.  It's not like I'm ever going to be with Adam anyway." I said ruefully. 

So why tie yourself with him. You are just as free tocmake your own choice." I remarked softly before pulling away. "Lets go back." I said before shifting to my fox formctiredly.

Jemma: 

I sighed and knelt down to pick him up.  I took off and flew up for a while in silence.  His comment was digging at me.  I couldn't just leave it alone.  "You don't get it.  It's not like a normal relation ship.  We were made for each other.  It's not the same as what is going on with Kat and Kai.  In that case she was more hypnotized then actually made for him..  With Adam and me, it's chemical, genetic, whatever.  We used to be perfect for each other."  I explained watching the city lights  slow us.  It was a lot easier to talk to him when he was a fox.  It was also easier to forget about my feelings for him. 

I stayed silent and fell asleep in her arms, unhappy about what she was saying. I made a decision then, i would just have to stay in this form so no more feelings came.

Jemma:

After I realized Michael had fallen asleep I turned so my back was facing the ground and zipped him up in my jacket.  It was late and I was starting to get tired myself.  I was used to flying at night because of Kai, but not for this long without a break.  I started to drift down looking for a place to land.  

Michael

I stirred a bit in her jacket. It was warm and comfortable even though I was warmer than her.

Jemma:

I flew over what looked like farm lands; field after field with few trees or houses in between. I frowned. I hadn’t remembered coming this way, but I had been much higher and more focused. I didn’t like the thought of spending the night in a tree with little shelter so I pressed on. As I flew over another field of tall grass something stung me at the base of my wing. I gasped sharply in pain and my wing gave out sending me spiraling down.

Michael

The feeling of falling woke me up a bit, and I poked my head out of her jacket looking around sleepily.

Jemma:

I cursed under my breath trying to gain control again. Feeling a little dizzy I folded both wings in just so I could fall straight. I cursed profusely seeing how close we were to the ground. I snapped my wings back out close to the ground, my injured one burning like mad as the wind strained against it. Just before I landed another burst of searing pain shot through my shoulder and chest causing me to lose focus on the landing and fall to the ground crunching my hurt wing in the process. I rolled feeling Michael slip out of my jacket as I did so and ended on my stomach with my wings sprawled out and limp.

Michael

I shifted back between forms after I landed but it hurt to breath. I guessed I had broken a rib but I pushed the pain away and instead went over to jemma to make sure she was ok. Just from looking at her I could tell her wing was in bad shape. It seemed to be broken from the landing. I cursed softly and knelt next to her inspecting her wing. I spoke reassuringly to her as I pulled off my shirt and ripped it into a bandage. Setting her wing as gently as I could I wrapped it up so that it could heal and be less painful before pulling her into my lap and just cradling her gently.

Jemma:

I was in a state of shock all while he was tending to my wing. I leaned against him as my mind slowly un-fogged. Every breath seemed to burn dully and I could hear a click in my own lung. I moved my hand up to touch my shoulder and felt a warm sticky wet spot.

I looked at her in worry and concern, uncertain as to what happened. I was bruised and broke a few ribs but my main worry was her. I smoothed her hair down absently as I looked into her eyes worriedly.

Jemma:

I looked back at him for a second then pulled away. “$!#t.” I muttered scowling. The moon was only a half circle so it didn’t offer much light, but I could tell that we were in the center of a wide open field of two foot tall grass. I peeled off my jacket, tossing it aside and then struggled out of my top leaving me in a dark blue sports bra. Looking down I could see the source of the bleeding was a small bullet hole. I repeated my curse.

Michael

I only briefly noted her attire as i took the remains of my bandages and wrapped up her wound. I looked at her in concern, before taking her jacket and putting it on.

Jemma:

I scowled off into the distance as he bandaged my wound. I should have told him off and done it myself but instead I was scanning the area around us. Someone must have shot me, but where were they?
