Kat:

I gave her a small smile before starting to wash my hair. All too soon I was finished and so I got out and dried off, before running a brush through my hair to remove the tangles. Once that was done I got dressed in the clothes that were left for me.

Jemma:

I blinked at Kai for a moment before checking on Alex. I pulled the blanket back to look at him, he was just sleeping.. or dead. I watched his belly for signs of breathing and sighed in relief when it rose and fell rhythmically. “Where is Kat? Can’t she just heal him?” I asked Kai. “I think it would weaken her too much, he has too many injuries.”

Kat:

I walked in and shifted slowly from foot to foot. "I don't know that...I wouldn't mind trying...He was my best friend, he is worth it." I said softly before going to kneel in front of Jemma and Alex's small form.

Jemma:

I pulled Alex away from her, holding him in my arms protectively, though I wasn’t being protective of him. “What if it drains you? What if it uses too much of your energy? What if it weakens you to the point where you can’t support other life?” I glanced at Kai, he didn’t look pleased, he looked worried and disappointed. “I’ve seen you use your power before Kat, I’ve seen it drain you, drain you to the point of having to stay in bed for days just to recover.” I brought my knees up so she couldn’t get to Alex, keeping him bundled up against my belly.

Kat:

I got to my feet, a hurt expression barely concealed on my face. I nodded once before leaving the living room to head back towards Kai and I's bedroom. Once there I sat on the bed and closed my eyes. I felt useless, I used to be able to help, but now...now I couldn't do anything.

Kai

I stared at the floor. “You shouldn’t have been so blunt about it.” I said to Jemma before going after Kat. I knelt on the floor in front of her. “Kat, I’m so sorry, it’s my fault you can’t help him. I’m so sorry.” I said not knowing what else I could say. It used to be I could give her some of my energy to help her, now I was just sapping her. I was a parasite.

Kat:

I shrugged. "We have tested it, you can use your powers as much as you want, its a bit draining but not that bad...you never have been a burden to me...and I have a lot of energy stored up..." It was true, during our time together alone we had practiced just to see if he could. I could support him freezing at least two targets with out having to worry all that much. Three or more I could notice my energy depleting. "All I can do now is sit and watch...I can't help anymore can I..." I said softly hugging my knees to my chest.

Kai:

“Maybe it will be okay if you heal him. Maybe it won’t hurt you. I won’t stop you if you want to do it. And I’ll talk to Jemma about it. If you really want to try.” I said softly, taking both of her hands in mine. “Kat, you are helping. You’re keeping me alive. If you weren’t here, I wouldn’t be. And I can’t ever repay you for that.”

Kat:

I shrugged tiredly. "All I do is sit here though...not even you will let me fly for very long..." I said softly. Since Kai had died, I hadn't been aloud to do a lot of things, both at Jemma's command and at Kai's. Neither had wanted to tax my energy. Though neither of them knew what I knew about it. If I ran out of energy, I would be the one dying Kai would be normal then. My soul was on the line always. If Kai died, or was killed. My soul would fuel his to bring him back. But I wouldn't make it.

Kai:

I gave a pained look. “I don’t want you to get hurt or worn out. I hate thinking that I’m sucking your energy.” I said softly, squeezing her hands lightly.

Kat:

I winced at his pained look and hugged him. I hated to see him unhappy, so I forced myself to brighten. I didn't really have much choice but to give in to what they wanted. I knew that much. Both of them were really stubborn.

Kai:

I held onto her. “Don’t be unhappy, we’ll make things work. You aren’t useless Kat, you’re far from useless.” I kissed her temple.

Kat:

I nodded into his shoulder. I felt comforted by his words, though I didn't see any proof behind them. I did nothing but sit there and do nothing. But I wanted to believe him.

Alex:

I stirred a little bit, even with all the wounds not even a whimper escaped me.

Kai:

I stroked her hair gently. “I’ll try to not stop you from now on. You can decide what you can and cannot do. I’m sorry if I’ve been too controlling.”

Jemma:

I lifted the blanket up a little so I could look at him when I felt him move lightly. “Alex?” I asked. I made sure my hand was warm before I reached in and rubbed behind his ear softly. “Aaaaleeex.” I sang quietly.

Kat:

"I'm used to being controlled. A part of me doesn't exactly feel safe if I'm in charge and make decisions..." I admitted softly.

Alex:

I opened my eyes and blinked up at her tiredly, I couldn't quite make her out as everything was out of focus. It was a sickening feeling.

Kai:

“You’re safe with me. I won’t ever let anything happen to you.” I said softly, kissing the back of her hand. “But, I don’t want to control you.”

Jemma:

“Hey there?” I said softly. “Hungry? There’s, like, cheese or something in the fridge. Eggs. I could make eggs.” I offered, trying to get him to perk up a little more.

Kat:

I snorted softly. "You are Kai. But it's alright. I'm used to being told what to do, at this point it feels different making my own choices, doing what I want instead."

Alex:

My eyes finally focused and I saw that it was Jemma speaking to me. Letting out a soft whine mixed with a sigh I pressed my face into the blankets against her stomach. Why was I here...

Jemma:

“No food just yet then.” I said softly. I gently continued to rub behind his ears, careful not to touch any of his wounds. “Thirsty?” I offered instead.

Kai:

“But I want you to be comfortable with everything you do. I want you to be happy.” I said, a tiny but frustrated but not with her, I didn’t want to control her life. I didn’t want us to turn into what Jemma had with Adam.

Kat:

I cupped his face in my hands. "I am comfortable. I just don't like feeling like I can't do anything."

Alex:

Why was I here, why back to them. I terrified her with my powers, why was she being so normal with me... Why, why, why... A few faint wisps of shadows rolled off of my body, at my worrying. My body was enjoying her scratching, but my mind was elsewhere.

Jemma:

“No response works too.” I muttered. “Maybe he’s deaf now, or traumatized, or in shock.” I wondered out loud, I peered down at his face curiously. Maybe he was stuck in fox form. That would certainly make it easier to be around him. No attraction to a fox.

Kai:

“You’ve already done so much though. And it’s not like any of us do all that much anyway. I mean for a while there Jemma would hardly leave her room.” I said.

Alex:

"I'm none of those...Why am I here...I messed up with you...I shouldn't be here." I said softly, keeping my face hidden.

Kat:

"I know..." I sighed, realizing he didn't get it.

Jemma:

“Kat found you, brought you back. You’re pretty torn up. And you should have known I wouldn’t react well to that, what you did, no one would. But I never said I wanted you to leave.” I told him, watching him closely even though he hid his face.

Alex:

"You asked...it was the only way I could show you what a monster I am...." I fought to my feet and stumbled forward, falling out of her arms and lap to the couch, bouncing off the couch to hit the ground hard on my side. I didn't let out a sound, though I wanted to scream.

Jemma:

I gasped and slid off the couch to scoop him up again. “Don’t do that.” I said softly, holding him carefully but securely. “It’s not your fault what powers you have.”

Alex:

I couldn't fight, I couldn't escape. So I just laid in her arms, shaking from the pain. I couldn't understand it. I was a monster, why was she being nice to me...
