Boarding School for the Mythical

Sphinx:

"I can either chase your family away or let them come get you. You might want to borrow some of my clothes in either case." I said softly looking down. I couldn't tell in her eyes if what ever that Tabitha had done she liked. So...I felt awful. But I wasn't one to not help someone no matter how I was feeling.

Tabitha:

“Yes, I think I might..” I said quietly holding the sheet tightly around me. “And I think I need to talk to my sister…”

I nodded and stood up bracing myself for going to speak to her sister. I walked towards the door and opened it, wincing a bit as I gestured towards my room. "Tabitha is back in my room. You have a lot to talk about. I'll go find your brother." I said simply stepping past her, my ears and tail drooped and visable. I still wasn't wearing a shirt but at the moment I didn't care.

Droy gave him dirty look but went to his room without a word.

Tabitha:

I got dressed seconds before the door opened. “Tabitha. What are you doing here?” She asked worriedly. I didn’t know what to say. I just went over and hugged her instead.

Velaric:

“Sphinx.” I called from my doorway, seeing him in the hall.

Sphinx:

I gave a look to Velaric that I hope explained everything before dashing off. I eventually found her brother and pointed him towards my dorm before going back to Velaric's room. Knowing I needed someone to talk too.

Velaric:

“What happened to you?” I asked once he was in my room. I flopped down on the couch and studied him. “You look like hell.”

Sphinx:

I flopped down on the floor, sitting crosslegged as I stared into my lap. "I dont know..." I whispered before I told him everything that had happened. I told him about the feelings I had. I told him about my confusion over the feelings, and I also told him about my fears about all of it.

Velaric:

I stayed mostly quiet while he was talking. Internally I was debating showing him what I had found. I had done a little research after I had returned to my own room. It had been easy, I searched the girl’s name in the school database to find her records and her last name. Then I searched the family. It was an old family with a lot of history. Most of it was good until the most recent generation though.

Sphinx:

I sat there just plainly miserable. I didn't know what was going on with any of this. It was all so strange, and overwhelming to me.

Velaric:

“I have something to show you.” I said decidedly with a sigh. I got up slowly and picked up the article I had printed off. I handed it to Sphinx. It was about a man who had burned to death in a house fire. His stepdaughter, stepson, and his own daughter had been in the house when the fire started. The oldest girl had been suspected due to the family’s well developed skills of the elements, but for reasons not mentioned in the article, the suspicions had been dismissed. It showed a picture of the three children after the fire. The two older kids both looked grim and where turned slightly away from the youngest who had a serene smile on her little face.

I looked over the article, reading it multiple times, not understanding. I looked up at him, confusion plain on my face.

Velaric:

“I also looked into the police report for that case. The little girl, Tabitha, had some health issues. They caused her already well developed powers to lash out unexpectedly. The case was dropped because of extenuating circumstances, for one, their mother was pregnant at the time. At the end of the report it said Tabitha was being treated…” I sighed. “Her blood changed, it turned bitter, it made me sick. That is never supposed to happen. Blood doesn’t just change. There is something else wrong with her, it’s not just a health issue Sphinx.”

Sphinx:

I knew he could tell I was understanding, but I didn't want to. Poor Tabitha....to have to go through this? It made me wish I could go hug her, but I couldn't. I doubted I would be aloud near her anymore. I was sure her family and Shade would see to that. And I wouldn't fight it. Maybe it was for the best. Tabitha had her own issues, she didn't need mine as well. I was the last of a species, Sphinx's would never exist again and anything I created would be a half-breed. Mostly though, I just worried about her. I had no clue what to call all the things I felt for her, nor what to do about them.

Velaric:

“She’s dangerous you realize? I think maybe you should just stay away from her…” I said ruefully.

Sphinx:

I chuckled softly. "How good am I at doing that?" I asked him softly with a sad smile. He was a prime example. I tended to make friends with dangerous people. It was just something that I did, for better or worse.

Velaric:

I grimaced. “She made me sick, and I have a pretty strong stomach…” I said “We could just leave. Find another school. Maybe one that offers a few more night classes.”

Sphinx:

"Maybe..." I said softly thinking it over. I knew he was right, but part of me...part of me didn't agree with it...I closed my eyes and continued to mull it over before nodding once sharply. "Yeah, lets. Your turn to pick my friend." I said rolling to my feet.

Velaric:

“I’m sorry Sphinx. I really am. I know you like her a lot. If I hadn’t bitten her maybe she would be different…” I said guiltily.

Sphinx:

I shrugged absently. "Its fine. I have no idea what she really feels about me anyway. I'm immortal, she isn't. Watching a friend grow old and die sucks." I said before motioning with my head. "I need to go get my stuff." I said not meaning my clothes or anything. There was a special journal that I always brought with me, in it I recorded all of my knowledge and it was written in my race's language meaning it was unreadable to anyone but me. Beyond the book, I planned on bringing a small backpack, in which was a giant room. Both things I had grown up with.

Shade curled up the counter next to a note that his girl had hastily written before her sister dragged her out. Her sister had also locked him in Sphinx’s room. His tail flicked in annoyance. He read the note upside down. Tabitha had apologized for her behavior. She said she hoped it wouldn’t change thinks with them. That she valued Sphinx, and that she couldn’t imagine what he thought of her now.

Sphinx:

I entered my dorm and quickly went to my room, knocking first before opening the door when no answer came. I looked around the room before seeing Shade and the note. I read the note and hesitated just standing there. I shifted from foot to foot before shaking my head. I went to my closet and grabbed the journal and backpack. I slipped the journal inside before shouldering it. I grabbed a pad of paper and a pencil before writing down my response.

I'm sorry...I don't even know what has happened. I am no stranger to odd things, or dangerous people. But that doesn't mean I cant handle that. Velarric and I are leaving. Its for the best, we might hang around a bit as there are a few pictures I want to take while we are here for the memories. I normally wouldn't leave like this...but I do not want to get in the way of your family and those close to you. None of them wants me around you so this is for the best. I never had a family, and I refuse to let you lose yours over me. I never was able to figure out what all my feelings for you meant. I am not used to the terms this time period would use. I wish you the best of luck, and I know you will find what makes you happy. Sincerly, Sphinx. P.S. Keep Shade close, unless you dont want him anymore. He was locked in my room."

I went over to Shade and picked him up tieing the note to his neck. "Take care of her alright?" I told him softly before setting him down outside my dorm and locking it behind me. With that I sighed and glanced at the door one more time before heading back to velarrics.

Shade sat down and watched Sphinx walk away. After a moment he dashed after him and paused in front of him. He nuzzled Sphinx’s leg before looking up at him with his clear silver eyes. He knew it was goodbye.

Sphinx:

I reached down and gave him a gently scratch behind the ears. "See ya buddy. I'll miss you." I said softly before resuming walking. I had my sweatshirt again so I pulled up the hood, to hide my tail and ears.

Velaric:

I didn’t have anything to take with me besides the ring I always wore on my right hand and a few clothes. I didn’t get sentimentally attached very easily. I pulled the curtains back just a sliver to check the light status. It was dim outside, but the sun would be up soon.

Sphinx:

I stepped into Velaric's dorm and sat down on the couch tossing a bottle of blood at him. "Drink up. When night falls we are going to go." I said closing my eyes to lay down on the couch.
