Boarding School for the Mythical

"You really are a fool, Sphinx is dieing. I can end his suffering that much quicker." I set my hands on my hips.

“Sphinx is Dying…?” I said slowly. “How? Why?”

"He is running out of his powers. His powers are tied to his life line. A millennium ago, he would be able to destroy a city with a gesture. Another one before that, and it would be a mountain. He has grown steadily weaker as time passes. Soon, he will run out and won't be able to sustain his life." I said looking down at the ground.

“What can be done?” I demanded resisting the impulse to grab her and shake her.

"I don't know to be honest. I was here when his race started disappearing, but I don't know where they went or why." I admitted.

I swore and started making my way back to the apartment without another word.

I just stood there, waiting a few seconds before following after her again.

“Go away!” I yelled at her. Not bothering to face her again.

I stopped moving, my shoulders slumping. "I will try to figure out a way to free you of the burden..."

I ignored her and made my way back to the apartment. I pushed the door open, brooding with anger and other unpleasant emotions.

Sphinx:

I hadn't moved beyond freeing Shade from the room and hanging my head in my hands. I felt tired and drained.

“You’re dying?” I asked flatly from the door.

I lifted my head from my hands, "Everyone is dying. Time does that to most. But I suppose so yes."

“I thought you were immortal,” I said defensively.

"I don't age to be sure. But all things must die eventually. Those who live forever have...other issues. Mine happens to be I will die if I run out of energy...or that is what we believe will happen." I said with a slight shrug.

“Can’t you just like, eat something, or soak out in the sun, or take a nap to get energy?” I asked.

"I don't think it works like that." I remarked softly.

I crossed my arms and scowled at the ground. “God, you’re such an ass.” I finally said. “Why even make an effort with her?”

"Because even as I die, I will still outlive her...probably. And its not just her, its you as well. You share the body and so I will take both...if I can." I said hanging my head in my hands.

I scowled at him this time. “You’re not going to outlive me.” I said darkly, the words were almost spoken through me. My vision went a little red but I blinked and it was back to normal. It’s time to go, I thought sadly. I took a few short steps and sat down on the couch next to Sphinx. I was silent for a moment looking down at my lap and gripping the couch cushion tightly with both hands on either side of me. “Don’t tell her.” I said softly before slumping over, releasing my hold for now, going back to the agony that was my life.

I blinked and moved her head onto my lap, I stroked her cheek as I whispered gently in her ear. "I will do anything I can to make your life better." I promised to the other Tabitha.

Tabitha:

I heard Sphinx’s voice but I couldn’t tell what he said. My eyes opened slowly and I looked up at him before blushing in embarrassment. “Oh god… What happened?” I asked in horror.

I smiled softly and kissed her gently to shush her. "The other you came to say hi, but nothing really happened."

Tabitha:

I squinted at him. “Really? Promise? I didn’t embarrass myself?” I asked just then I felt a cold nose pressed on my arm. I turned to see Shade looking at me strangely.

I nodded. "Your fine, I promise."
