School of Thought

Nathanial:

“I don’t know.” I checked my watch a little nervously. It was ten to eleven. Shouldn’t they be getting home?

I hugged his arm, my hand still in his though. "Um...well if we can't find them. We can stay in my room. Danny can find us there."

Nathanial:

I didn’t know about that… “It’s late.” Was all I said, standing there unbudging.

"We could...I dunno...What should we do if we can't find them?" I asked hiding my face in his arm. I had never not been able to find Danny before.

Nathanial:

I made a face. I hoped she wasn’t about to cry. “I’m sure they’ll come back. Maybe they’re just smoking or something…”

I trembled slightly before nodding into his arm. "O-okay."

Nathanial:

“We could go for a walk outside or something. Get some fresh air?” I suggested.

"O-okay." I said before staring to lead him towards the nearest way outside.

Nathanial:

I breathed in the cool air once we were outside. I let go of her hand to sip up my light jacket then promptly shoved them in my pockets before she could grab my hand again.

I watched him zip up his jacket noting I didn't have one for myself. I hugged myself, and looked around, biting my lip again.

Nathanial:

I looked at her for a moment then started walking assuming she would come along too.

I followed along, still hugging myself for warmth.

Nathanial:

I was stumped for things to say. The comfortableness I had developed with her was short lived. Now I just listened to the awkward sound of silence.

"S-so...um...tell me stuff you like?" I asked after a moment, trying to bring back the comfortable closeness.

Nathanial:

“Um, well I’ve already said I like books… and rock…” I said lamely. What else did I like? I was suddenly stumped.

"What about people?" I asked as I rubbed my arms and giving a tiny shiver.

Nathanial:

“What people do I like?” That was a silly question to as someone. “Well I like my family. And I have some really cool teachers at school… and there is a neighbor that I take care of that is nice, and sometimes her grandsons come over and we play games together, I like them…” I said awkwardly.

I nodded, "That sounds wonderful. I don't really have anyone like that...Well I have Danny, but I never really had any friends." I smiled. "I have always wanted friends, and maybe a boyfriend. I know Danny has had some of those, and I like guys too. But I think I need friends first." I said mostly just rambling to fill the silence.

Nathanial:

“I’ve never really had friends either.” I admitted, looking at the ground.

I stopped walking and looked at him in surprise. "Well..." I grabbed his arm to get him to stop so he would look at me, "If you be my first friend, I will be yours."

Nathanial:

I rubbed the back of my neck. “Okay… Are we supposed to shake on it or something?” I gave a small smile.

"Erm...I'm not much a shaking person." I admitted, "Blame Danny. But I know what will work!" I said matter-of-factly. I stepped up to him and hugged him, sliding my arms under his even if they were in his pockets.

Nathanial:

I kind of put an arm around her and patted her back.

"Your bad at giving hugs." I accused pulling out of his arms. "We will work on that."

Nathanial:

“I don’t hug that much…” I admitted.
