University Roommates

Ashton:

I raised my eyebrows at her. “You’re not going to have dinner?” I asked skeptically, setting the menu down in front of me.

Heather-
I shook my head and glanced at the flavors. "Nope," I said, popping the P. "Why would I do that when they have ice cream?"

Ashton:

I shrugged it off. “Alright, whatever floats your boat I guess.” I said as the waitress came over. I ordered a burger then looked to Heather with amusement for her order.

Heather-
I smiled at the waitress and ordered. "Can I have a vanilla ice cream with hot fudge and sprinkles?" I asked, sweetly. She nodded and wrote it down and told us it would be out in a few minutes.

Ashton:

I leaned back in my seat and watched the door absently instead of looking at her.

Heather-
I put my chin on my hands and looked at him. "Wow I must be so cool, you super interested in me right now," I said, sarcastically.

Ashton:

I blinked and brought my gaze away from the guy I had been watching outside. “What?” I asked. “Sorry. Just thinking.” I muttered.

Heather-
"About what?" I asked, fiddling with the napkin holder.

Ashton:

“Old friends.” I said with a shrug not wanting to give any more information. “God, I’m starving.”

Heather-
I rolled my eyes. "Calm down, you have a burger on the way," I told him, flicking a piece of a napkin at his face. "What about old friends?" I asked, getting back to what seemed to be bugging him.

Ashton:

I sighed inwardly. “Just saw someone who looked like one of them.” I said with a nod to the guy outside. He was smoking a cigarette and leaning against his truck. He looked like a low class nobody that wouldn’t give a damn if you lived or died. He had been rude to the waitress on the way out too.

Heather-
I nodded and looked at him. "Is there a reason you seem upset about that?" I asked, leaning forward a little.

Ashton:

I shrugged. “I’m not upset.” I said simply, sipping my drink. I was thankful that the waitress chose then to bring out my food and Heather’s ice cream.

Heather-
I bounced a little in my seat when my ice cream was set in front of me and quickly put a bite in my mouth. "I love ice cream," I said, redundantly.

Ashton:

I bit into my food. “I still don’t understand how you can have nothing but that for dinner.” I said around a mouthful of food.

Heather-
I reached over and stole a french fry from him. "There, happy?" I asked, taking a bite of it.

Ashton:

“Do you just live off junk food when my sister isn’t around? How are you not rotund?” I asked, eyeing her ice cream.

Heather
"I have a fast metabolism," I answered and reached over to steal another fry when I found they were pretty good.

Ashton:

I finished my burger and pushed the plate over to her so she could eat the rest of my fries. “Do you think the powers back on by now?” I asked.

Heather-
I grabbed another one of his fries and shrugged. "Probably not, it could be off for a while," I said.

Ashton:

I sighed and started tearing pieces of my paper napkin and rolling them into little balls. I lined them up methodically on the checkered surface of the table. “Wanna play checkers?” I asked without looking at her. I just assumed the answer would be yes.

Heather-
I shrugged and pushed my ice cream away. "I'll have you know that I'm very good at Checkers and I'll probably win," I boasted. "I dont wanna hurt your fragile ego."

Ashton:

I snorted. “Fragile? My ego is very healthy thank you very much.” I replied, taking my first move. “I spent many sick days playing this in my youth.”

Heather-
I made a move when it was my time and stuck another fry in my mouth. "Well so did I. May the better person win," I smirked.

Ashton.

We played three games and I won once. I had ordered coffee to sip while we played, and once we were finished I asked for the bill. Since it wasn’t for very much I tipped well and took the extra receipt, to which I was surprised to see a number and a smiley face scribbled on the back.
“Well, shall we go?” I asked as I slid out of the booth.
