Mythic Land (closed)

Velaric:

“Tonight there will be a rather talented illusionist. That’s what she calls herself anyway. I think she might be something close to what you are. But not quite.” I smiled without showing teeth. “Speaking of, I thought we might get that out of the way while we’re getting to know each other. Shal I go first or would you rather?”

Rye:
I smiled and sat back against the couch. I held my hand out for him to shake like it was a first introduction. "I'm a witch," I told him. "Pleased to make your acquaintance."

Velaric:

I took her hand gently in mine and kissed it. “The pleasure is all mine. I am a vampire,” I said and released her. I watched her reaction carefully. People didn’t always react well to that information. My kind were not among the most civilized.

Rye:
I smiled at his innocent kiss and gently pulled my hand back. "I knew Velaric was an interesting name. How old are you?" I asked, interested. Since I chose to live a more human life, it wasnt often I got the chance to interact with those who were more like me.

Velaric:

“Old enough to stop counting the years.  Birthdays for me are just another day of the week,” I said, pleased by her interest in place of repulsion.  “But I’m not that interesting.  Tell me more about yourself.  Your friends were human, were they not?  Leads me to believe you live in the human way.”

Rye:
"I used to live with a coven," I told him. "I just didn't ever feel like I was comfortable in such a large group," I shrugged. "I moved out when I was 16 and I've been alone ever since. Humans are interesting," I told him with a smile.

Velaric:

“Since you were sixteen, hm? So how long have you been on your own then?” I asked. I knew she was older than eighteen but past experiences had left me worried. I guessed she was early twenties, which was still young, but acceptable.

Rye:
"About six years now," I said after a moment of thought. It didnt feel that long but it also felt like a lifetime. "You dont associate with humans much?" I asked. The thought was intriguing. Humans were everywhere. I couldnt imagine now observing them.

Velaric:

"No. They don't, ah, have much to offer," I said. Humans were really only good for a couple things. Blood and sex. They didn't understand my type. They were fascinated but for all the wrong reasons. They were sheep. When I was young, I had a few human partners. They never lasted.

"Truth be told I don't associate with many people, human or otherwise. I hang around here, and I travel, but I don't tend to get close to many people."

Rye:
I smirked and leaned back in the chair, trying to figure him out. "Interesting then, that you would invite me here at all," I said, gesturing to the room around us. "Why did you do that if you dont 'associate' with others," I asked, curious.

Velaric:

the corner of my lips quirked. "It's simple," I said, leaning in sligtly. "You caught my eye." It had been some time since I took to a person so quickly. Past events left me hesitant. I was ready now to have an adventure. I needed a companion for that.

Rye:
"Did I?" I asked, a slight sarcastic tilt to my voice. "Little old me?" 

"Well, I suppose meeting a stranger at such an ungodly hour isn't quite like myself either," I confessed. Interacting with humans gave me a fairly human schedule. I didnt need to sleep as much as a human, but I still found myself in bed before 11 most nights, simply because it was the thing to do.

Velaric:

"Something out of the ordinary for both of us then," I said with a smile. "This should be an extraordinary night."

When the time came I took her to the room the club had been in but now it was transformed into a cozy Theater. All around were intricately carved life sized ice sculptures. The dim light refracted in them. Even with the ice sculptures the room was not too chilly. We were the first to arrive. The bartender was the only other person present. I ordered a drink and offered it to Rye.

"This is silver flower liqueur. It enhances the senses. Color, sound, taste... It's not a drug but I would understand if you decline," I said to her, holding up the glass of cloudy liquid.

Rye:
I took a long look around the room and stood for a moment in awe. The sculptures were so incredibly beautiful and like nothing I had ever seen before. I looked at Velaric when he started speaking and took the drink from his hand slowly. "What makes it do all that?" I asked, having never heard of it. I took a quick sniff of the drink and then peered into the glass, waiting for the answer.

Velarc:

“It’s enchanted. The flower nectar itself. Likely by some of your people a long time ago. It thousands of flowers to make one glass. It’s rare to be served at a bar, but the woman who will be preforming tonight requested a bottle for the guests,” I explained. My eyes flicked to the door where a petit woman in a red trench coat entered. Her eyes quite literally glowed orange.

Rye:
I took a generous sip from the glass he handed me and for a few minutes, nothing was different. Then, like someone flicked a switch, the entire room lit up. The colors were more vibrant, the sounds were louder and more defined. "Woah...." I mumbled, taking it all in. I couldn't believe I had never heard of this stuff. Thats what I get for hanging around humans all the time.

Velaric:

"How do you feel?" I asked, leaning in closer. The drink wouldn't affect me. I could drink alcohol but it did nothing to me. on occasion, blood from a certain kind of creature would have the ability to affect me but usually, it was in a bad way. Another woman entered the room. She had horns spiraling from the crown of her head.

Rye:
I looked at him as he leaned closer to me. "I imagine this is why humans get high... "I said, trailing off as I took in the rest of the room. "It must be for this feeling. Its quite intense." I mumbled. "When will it wear off?" I wondered, hoping for a fleeting moment that it wouldnt make my do something stupid.

Velaric:

“A few hours. Not long at all. Just enough for you to enjoy yourself here tonight.” I put my hand lightly on her back. “Why don’t we sit down?” I said and lead the way. I took her to a set of double papasan chairs directly in front of the stage.

Several people were coming in now. Only one or two looked remotely human. Of everyone here, the two of us would blend in with regular society the easiest.

Rye:
I sat down with him and tried to act like I fit in. I leaned in a little closer and motioned him closer as well. "So tell me...whats really going to happen here?" I asked. "What should I expect?" I had almost no knowledge of what this show was going to be and it was starting to make me anxious.

Velaric:

I settled in close to her, but not quite touching. “The performer is an illusionist. She specializes in magic which can conjure the marvelous. This drink,” I tapped her glass, “enhances the experience. I can’t say exactly what you’ll see or feel. It’s different, sometimes, for each person,” I explained to her.

Rye:
Looking around as the room started to fill up, I felt for the first time that perhaps I was missing out on something. All the years of trying to blend in and be something I wasnt, I was missing out on an entire world.

"Thank you...for asking me to come," I said, settling back in my seat.

Velaric:

“My pleasure.” I smiled at her but turned my eyes to the stage when the lights dimmed. A few moments later a woman walked onto the stage wearing a black cloak. Her face was painted with green and gold lines. She walked to the center of the stage and undid her cloak. With a twirl, she made the fabric spin above her. One second it was clear that it was fabric, the next it had dissolved into a hundred back chimney swifts that flew directly into the intimate audience.

Rye:
I watched the show with wide eyes and my jaw dropped. It was...impressive to say the least. I wasn't sure if it was the drink that was making it more intense or if it would have been that way anyway but there was just no way I could look away from what was happening on stage.

Velaric:

The show was all about perception and senses. She conjured beautiful, unearthly sounds, heavenly scents, exquisite images. It seemed timeless. Each new component brought on a different feeling. I could only imagine what it was like for Rye. The last thing the illusionist did was to present each member of the audience with a uniquely suited flower. Mine was an Egyptian lotus that brought back memories of decades past.
