Alex:

I hadn't moved far, in fact I might not have moved at all except I didn't want to be in the way of a snakes home as he poked his way around me. I had moved a ways off and had found a small shack obviously meant to be used to store things. A trail beside it lead down the cliffside.

Jemma:

I reached the cliff that I had fallen over the evening before. Alex wasn’t anywhere. I fell to my knees. There wasn’t anything for me here. I was alone and virtually helpless. It was miles from any other dwelling, and miles beyond that to any kind of city or transportation. I was completely vulnerable without the use of my wings.

The sun was only barely crawling over the horizon now. I felt empty and lost. I heard twigs snap behind me and whirled around. “Alex?”

Alex:

I heard someone moving around and I stepped out of the shack, peering through the darkness as if it didn't exist. I saw a form crouched on the ground ahead and I moved slowly towards it. I halted a bit away to gaze at Jemma, my heart still feeling lit it was being ripped out of my chest.

Jemma:

I stood up and peered through the woods. “Alex?” I asked again, stepping around until my eyes found him. My heart pulsed painfully. I moved closer to him. “Alex… I’m so sorry… What I said last night was cruel… I don’t really think that…” I said brokenly.

"If you didn't you would never have come up with that." I murmured, shoulders slumping. My gaze dropped to the ground and my ears laid back.

Jemma:

I moved to stand in front of him close enough to touch. “You’re right. I did think about it. But I don’t really believe it’s true. I know you cared about… Ira… And I know you cared about me… I hope you still care for me now… I was just hurt by it… My temper isn’t always rational.” I reached my hand out for his.

"You aren't worried about how quickly I'll move on..." I asked as I watched her hand and my shoulders slumped more. "I did it for her...not for me...I still cared about you but...I was the first person ever she could touch. I was a hope for a different kind of life...She showed she cared while you pushed away...for most of the time...after I left...I let her do what she wanted. I didn't feel anything...but then my heart was starting to turn." I lifted my gaze to hers. "But now she is dead...and you went right back to what you did before...I do still care about you Jemma. But you aren't the only one who was hurt..."

Jemma:

I let my hand drop when I saw his shoulders slump. I didn’t know what to say to him. My gut instinct was to run away from the conversation like I did before. But if I did that there would be no way to fix this. My gaze fell to the side, unable to look him in the face.

I hesitated for a long moment before with a helpless noise I closed the distance between us to hug her. I held onto her tightly, my eyes closed tightly. "I can't lose you Jemma...but if you leave me again...I can't ever come back..."

Jemma:

I pressed my face into his shoulder and clung to him. “I’m sorry…” I murmured brokenly.

"I know..." I whispered and just held onto her. I didn't feel the need to say more. This was all in her court now. She had pushed me away twice, and I couldn't handle a third time. I was struggling to know if she truly cared about me.

Jemma:

For another moment I held onto him tightly, then I pulled back slightly to look up and touch his face. “Can you forgive me?” I asked in a whisper.

"I am trying...but I'm scared you will repeat what you did before..." I told her with a shaky breath. I leaned my head into her hand though, rubbing against it gently. I wanted to forgive her, I wanted all this past us. But I couldn't get it out of my head.

Jemma:

"I'm going to try my hardest to do better." I assured him.

I nodded before I leaned down to kiss her with a silent desperation. It wasn't for romance, it wasn't for lust. Just the need to feel close to her.

Jemma:

I kissed him back without a moment of hesitation. I wound my arms around his neck to hold him close.
