Boarding School for the Mythical

Velaric:

I got in after her and closed the door before sitting next to her. It started moving after we were both seated.

"So why did you do all of this?" I asked, gesturing to the light garden ahead of us as we started to lift up into the air. I crossed my legs, lightly bouncing my foot as I gazed out of the capsule.

Velaric:

“I wanted everyone to have a good Christmas.” I said softly watching the lights from the window. Not to mention that I had pissed her off by sleeping with a woman in the same apartment that she was staying in.

"I'm having a great Chritmas...thanks to you." I said shyly, my lip caught between my teeth.

Velaric:

"I'm glad. I am too actually, I like having people around on Christmas. It feels like family, I always loved Christmas." I said, thoughtfully.

"I never celebrated until I was with others who celebrated. Where I grew up this was not a holiday we observed." I set my hands on the bench, one on either side. My fingers trembled slightly on the side closest to him as I fought one way and then the other on if I should reach out and take his hand.

Velaric:

“Are you talking about this life or your past ones?” I asked still watching out the window.

"Both. Always both. I am both myself and my past lives and experiences. Just as who you are is made up of those you meet and the things you experience. It is simply easier for me to separate the two." I inched my finger closer before stopping my hand.

Velaric:

“Do you remember your very first life?” I asked curiously, Turing to look at her. She was ancient; I knew that, she might even be older than Sphinx.

"No. That is one of the forbidden lives. Some of my lives are sealed from my memory. I do not know why, only that I sealed them. I don't know if it was because of a great calamity, a bad life, or a regret. But I couldn't remember them even if I tried." I shook my head and looked up at him.

Velaric:

“Oh,” I frowned at that. “Do you remember your life with Sphinx? When you were married to him?” I asked. I didn’t know how I felt about that, I wasn’t quite jealous, and either way I didn’t have room to be. There had been a time that I thought I had been in love with him myself.

"Yes. He is a good Husband, an excellent lover. But...there is a distance even then. He holds the world at bay, and though he lets people come close...he still holds them at arms length." My cheeks were bright pink as unbidden to my desires flashbacks slipped into my mind.

Velaric:

“I know that very well. I’m sure you know better than I. That I am jealous of.” I smiled at her playfully.

I smiled shyly back. "I have not always been on Sphinx's good side though...There are times we have stood on opposite sides of wars and tried to kill each other." I dropped my gaze from his with a small giggle.

Velaric:

I smiled and raised my eyebrows. “I don’t need the full history between you two. In fact, I would rather not talk about it anymore right now.”

"Then what would you rather talk about?" I asked, sitting up slightly as I conciously leaned closer. What did he want to talk about? Was he going to talk about us? Was he going to confess his feelings? Oh gods above, was he going to kiss me? My heart gave an excited little flutter in my chest.

Velaric:

“Anything else.” I said dully. “Is there anything else you want to do tonight? It’ll be Christmas morning in a few hours.”

I looked down, "Well...there is one thing I would like to do. But I don't know if I really should ask for it."

Velaric:

I looked her over carefully trying to take a guess at what she wanted. “Well what is it?” I asked finally, facing her.

I bit my lip and looked away from him. I couldn't ask, he would get angry at me but I wanted it so bad...

Velaric:

“Vivian?” I asked, looking at her face. The cart paused at the very top of the ferris wheel giving us a view over the entire light park.

I chewed on my lip for a long moment before letting out a soft breath. "I am going to do something you are not going to like. But this is all I want, it will be quick. Don't...." I lifted my gaze to meet his eyes. "Don't hurt me..." I whispered the last words. I leaned forward, my hands going to touch his face gently on either side. I drew in a slow breath and let half of it out before I gathered enough courage to cross the distance from his lips and mine.

Velaric:

I should have known what she was going to do and stopped it before it happened, but I was momentarily frozen by her words. ‘don’t hurt me’…

My eyes were open the entire time, her lips only barely brushed mine before I was pushing her away. I had a hand to her belly, pressing her into the back of the seat. I caught both her wrists in my other hand. “Vivian.” I said her name carefully, coolly. My entire body was under my ridged control. I held her wrists tightly, but not too tight. I my hand on her stomach pinned her to the back of the seat without it hurting her. “You cannot do that.” I said through my teeth.

I exhaled softly my wrists caught in his grip, his hand to my stomach. My eyes had closed right before my lips had barely brushed over his. It wasn't enough, not good enough. I opened my eyes slowly, my violet eyes going right for his. I didn't say anything just watched him.

Velaric:

I felt a rush of anger when her eyes met mine. “What the hell were you thinking?” I demanded. “Just a few hours ago you were furious because I slept with another woman, now you’re trying to kiss me?”
