A ring of laughter exploded from the child as she was scooped up, she fluttered her little wings and giggled.

Jemma:

I heard the laughter from the kitchen and froze midsentence. It couldn’t be… I left the two on the couch and went to investigate, stunned when I saw he draped over Alex’s shoulder.

I laughed and carefully set her down, dabbing her nose with a bit of batter and leaving a chocolate chip on the end.

Jemma:

“Demi?” I asked, socked to see the little girl. She turned, her little finger in her mouth to lick the batter. “Mama!” I bounced happily and raced to me. I dropped to my knees and hugged her to me.

I paused in my work, lips parting slightly. Mama? I couldn't help but glance between Demi and Jemma an awkward look coming to my face.

Jemma:

I hugged her close breathing in her sent, making sure she was real. After Michael died I hadn’t been entirely sure, she was real. I had been convinced that she was our daughter from the future, but then he died, and she disappeared. I didn’t think I would ever see her again.

I slowly returned to making food, a sinking feeling in my stomach. Jemma had told me a lot. About all of her experiences. It made me wonder...had she left out her childbirth?

Jemma:

I snuggled her too me for another moment then looked up to Alex. “Where did she come from? How did she get here?” I asked in astonishment, still taking it in.

"I found her outside. She just ran up and tackled me. I don't know where or how she got here." I admitted with a glance at her.

Jemma:

I stood up with her and took her to the table where I sat down in a chair with her on my lap. “How did you get here Demi?” I asked her, she looked a little older now, maybe she would be able to tell me now. “Mama?’ She said slowly with a tilt of her head as her ears came up.

I slid two perfect pancakes onto a plate before adding a little bit of butter and some syrup. On the side I added in eggs, hash browns, and a strip of bacon. "I have her meal ready."

Jemma:

“Yum.” I said, and echoed by Demi, then looked up at Alex, he didn’t seem pleased. I reached out and caught hold of his hand. “This is too much for her alone to eat, I think I’ll help her out.” I said with a warm smile.

I cracked a smile, starting to cook up more pancakes for the rest of the house. "Enjoy, I'll get more started for everyone else."

Jemma:

I watched him wondering is I should do something. I couldn’t tell if his smile was real or forced. I turned to the warm child in my lap, cutting up little pieces for her to eat.

I focused on preparing food for everyone before buttering and syruping the lot and carrying out three plates. I gave Kai and Kat their own plates before going in search of Adam with a plate.

Adam:

I was on the front porch sunning my wings, it felt good but it didn’t lighten my mood. I had seen the little girl appear from my spot on the roof. When I had first brought Jemma the child, I had thought she might be mine, at the time I had been cruel about it, but now I thought something different. I knew Jemma thought she was from the future, and from what I had just seen, I thought she might be right.

"Hey, I brought you food Adam." I said, setting the plate beside him. "May I sit?" I asked while easing down beside him anyway. I let out a soft breath as I turned my face into the light, enjoying a moment of quiet warmth.

Adam:

“Thanks.” I murmured, picking at the food but not bringing it up to my mouth. Jemma had chosen him, and while I was jealous, I didn’t feel negatively toward him, only myself.

I nodded briefly. "How are you faring?" I asked after a moment, turning to look at him.

Adam:

I looked sideways at him. “Honestly? Not good. I have no purpose. Nowhere to go. The girl I’m in love with wants nothing to do with me… for good reason. I don’t know what to do with myself.” I admitted.

"Ah...but I do think you have a purpose Adam. You have made mistakes. It may be a wise idea to work on seeking forgiveness. If I were in your shoes...I would start small. Kat doesn't hate you and while Kai is certainly over protective. That may be a small place to start. Work on the pair. The rest will follow in time." I said softly after considering his words.

Adam:

I studied him for a long minute. "Why don't you hate me?" I asked. "I would understand if you did. I'm sure Jemma has told you everything by now. I don't get how you can stand to be here with me. I hate me, and if our positions were reversed, I think I would hate you too."

"I can't hate you more than I hate myself." I said softly. "You have done terrible things Adam. To her and to others. But how can I judge you with what I have done? Adam...I butchered and killed my sister. Cooked her remains and served her to the people at the school."

"I want to hate you, but...I can't. At one point we could have been friends Adam. It's odd...I always felt close to you. I am the one person in the world who could kill you at the height of your power...and you me. I was aware of you even if you weren't for me." I admitted as I kept my eyes on the sky.

Adam:

I looked up to the sky as well and let his words sink in. At least there was someone in the house that accepted me, even if it was the one I would least expect. “Do you think she can forgive me?” I asked after a long moment.

"Do you honestly think Jemma forgives anyone? Besides you know. Kai." I made a slight face. "Still not quite sure how he gets away with so much."

Adam:

"She shaped him into who he is. The only person she can trust. Of course she's lenient with him, he could get away with murder and she'd still take him." I grimaced after I said it. It was just a common phrase, but that was exactly what we had both done, Jemma too. I wouldn't have been surprised if Kai had actually killed someone too, it was the life we were born to.
