Pride of the Ocean

My eyes went wide and looked up at the boy. "ARe you okay?" I asked

a loud beeping noise was in my ears as something hit my chest. it all stopped. "I-I think so."

I looked at him. "That... that's for you."

i grabbed it and smiled. "what is it? you dont really have a tail, do you?"

I didn't say anything, but pulled myself onto the sand, so my tail was in plain view.

i gaped at it. "wow, that- that is AWESOME!" i jumped up and the scale fell off of me and the pain started again. i quickly grabbed it and held it in my hand. "whats up with the scale, it keeps my pain away."

I held onto Kakhi's hand and looked at the other boy. "He's magic.." I said with a grin.

I sighed. "I'm not magic, and my tail isn't awesome."

i looked between them both. "And you two? together? and whats your powers? i know i can heal, but what else is there?"

"We're not together..." I gave Dev a nervous glance.

"Powers? I don't think I have any powers." I said looking at him. I dropped his hand then stood up.

"Yeah..." I put my hand in the water, and froze the top. "That's mine."

i smiled. "This is great. i love it, well, other then the powers part, that sucks.

I looked up at him. "You love it?"

I looked at them and then sat back down feeling kinda akward. "Lucky, you guys have powers."

"Why do all of you think this is so great?!" I slipped back into the water. "It's not..."

my smile faded. "because, this means we have a purpose in life. we are needed for something."

"Well I'm glad you two are so happy!" I snapped, before diving down underwater.

"Kakhi!" I called to him then looked back at the boy. "Why did you have to make him upset?"

I found my underwater cave and swam inside. I got to the surface of the undersea cavern, and sat down on an outcropping that was partially in the water. I laid down, tears forming again.

I sighed and sat on the shore pulling my knees to my chest. I dipped my toes in the water and waited for Kakhi to come back.

I picked up the waterproof-framed picture of my little sister. She was four when it happened to me. I remembered with a jolt that she'd be starting HIGH SCHOOL this fall.

i sighed and sat down. "well, the truth is, i havent really had friends before. people hate me because my dad is rich, and my moms a slut. i just dont talk to people that often. i dont know what people like now, and i can never tell what anyone is thinking."

After a long time, I swam out of the cave, holding the photo against my chest. I resurfaced nearby.

i waved at him. "hey, sorry about earlier"
