Jemma:

I followed him and stopped behind him. It made me nervous being in here with both of them, like a bad omen. “Yeah,” I said softly.

Lights flickered on above us then it seemed to spread all around us, each panel of light made another one turn on until the entire room was brightly lit, not just from the ceiling, but the walls and floor as well. Not a single surface was spared from the light. I squinted, my eyes taking a moment to adjust from the darkness. The crystal was almost blinding to look at now, the entire room was a shrine to light and this was still brighter.

I heard footsteps and whirled to face the front of the room. Two figures appeared at the doorway. One I immediately recognized as Aline, the other was a brawny guy with a metal pipe in his hands. And then I realized there was a third behind them: Ira.

My wings twitched and unfurled slightly through my shirt. It was instinct in me. I didn’t feel safe and I needed to be quick on my feet. Not only that, but I felt protective of Alex, standing infront of him, somewhat blocking him from the others.

I grunted and made a face. The lights, they stopped shadows. No one in this room had one. My powers over shadows was gone. My protection was weakened but not gone entirely.

Jemma:

"What the hell is this?" I gestured to the entire room. "We had to take precautions. Alex is wild card. As are you. You don't seem content to accept the good we are doing. We had to take precautions in case you started meddling. Which you have now.” Aline said. “That is not an excuse for this,” I pointed behind me to Adam. “This is for the greater good. We’re doing good here. This is doing good.” She shot back. “It’s time for you to go. We can talk about this somewhere else.” Aline started forward and I instantly backed up but bumped into Alex behind me.

Ira:

I stepped out from behind the two. “Come on you two, you don’t need to be here, lets just go talk about this. Aline has her reasons.” I said, trying to to keep everyone calm.

Alex:
Staying calm was not going to work for me. This was too similar, brought too many memories, bottled up my power too much for me calm down. I didn't even react to Jemma bumping into me, or that Ira was in the room.

Ira:

“Just go get them.” Aline said to Justin next to me. He started forward and I was quick on his heels. “Don’t hurt them.” I said quickly. This whole ordeal kind of unnerved me, and I was sure there was a good reason, but still.

Jemma retreated further back in the room toward the glowing mass. Justin followed her and I went to Alex. “Alex please, let’s go.” I said softly, holding my hand out to him. I was nervous, and worried, and that must have shown on my face.

Jemma:

“Stay the fuck away me.” I hissed at the guy coming toward me. He was only continuing to advance on me, and sooner or later he would back me into a wall if I kept retreating. My switch blade was out in my hand and I slowed my pace, balancing on the balls on my feet for quick movement. “Don’t come any closer!”

Alex:

"Don't touch me Ira..." I murmured. "I don't want to hurt you...but I can't recognize you as friend or foe right now."

Jemma:

He did come closer and when I didn't move back any further, he lunged at me. I dodged sideways and flicked my knife out. It caught and dragged across the length of his arm. With a furious howl he whirled around to make another grab at me. It was faster than I thought he would be, and he got closer than I wanted. He swung the pipe at my head, hard, and I only just ducked in time. This time I got my blade into his armpit and it caused him to yell again and drop the pipe. I snatched it up and scrambled back, only barely keeping my balance.
I took off running, straight for Adam. The enraged, wounded man was hot on my heels. I skidded to a stop by the blinding crystal and swung at it with all I could. Razor shards flew at him and the entire crystal mass shattered and scattered across the lit floor.

Ira:

I hesitated when Alex said not to touch him. I only wanted to help, but I understood how he felt better than anyone. The next thing I knew Justin was hollering and by the time I looked up he was chasing Jemma. The structure in the back resolved in a piercing sound and little fragments of extreme light scattered across the floor, all around Jemma, Justin, and... Someone else. His pale coloring almost made him look like a ghost in the light. I squinted but I already knew who it was.

Alex:

I sank down into a crouch, my finger tips pressed together until my fingers were white with the effort. I kept my breathing slow and even, but I was tight and tensed, ready to spring. It was too much, and a soft growl came out of my throat when I heard the crystal shatter.

Jemma:

My entire body was tense, and a minute seemed to crawl by like an hour. Adam was crouched in the center of the shattered crystal. For the moment, my assailant was distracted by the mess I had made. I stepped over the shards. “Adam?” I put my hand on his shoulder. At my touch he tried to stand up but he stumbled so I slipped under his arm to support him. After a moment he stepped away from me and toward the guy I had been chased by. I stayed behind him and watched him walk forward. In seconds he had stepped up and snapped the guys neck. A jolt went through my body followed by a chill.

Ira:

I was making my way to them when I saw Adam snap Justin’s neck. I stopped dead in shock. The lights all around the room dimmed, then flickered, grew brighter, then dimmed again.

Alex:

I drew in several deep breaths and the growl grew in my throat as the lights flickered and I could smell death in the air.

Jemma:

Adam started walking toward the front of the room. I didn’t know what to do, I could follow him and put myself in the line of fire, or I could stay here and wait to see what he did. But I knew he could do a lot of damage and I was probably the only one who could keep him from it. “Adam!” I shouted at him from where I was. He turned slowly and laid his eyes on me. So many emotions crossed his face, most of which made me feel sick; hate, anger, possession, lust, longing, pain. Then his eyes seemed to grow dark and the lights started flickering more, then one after another they started blowing out.

I drew in a breath but my lungs felt empty. Everyone I loved was in this building, and Adam was going to destroy it, I already knew. I forced myself to go closer to him. Somehow I had to calm him down. All the while lights were blowing out, leaving more fragments on the floor.

Ira:

It was such a shock to see Adam like this that I almost didn’t notice the look in his face when he saw Jemma standing there. She looked incredibly vulnerable, and the look in his eyes said he wanted to squeeze the life out of her. And she was going to go to him. I started running for her, I wasn’t going to watch my oldest friend killed by the one who should have loved her.

Aline:

I got out. Things were falling apart fast and there was only one way to save the situation. It was a failsafe to stop Adam, but it would also ruin much of my work. I closed the door to the room we had kept Adam in and bolted it shut. Then I ran to my room.

((Go for it, but she's going to get what shes going for first. Alex getting out of the room works perfectly actually.))

Alex:

I growled loudly and during one of the light flickers I was just gone. I wasn't thinking, it was pure instinct at this point, and my skin was covered in armor of shadow, but it was semi transparent and it was easy to see me under it. Aline was my target and I ripped holes from the wall until I found her.

Aline:

I fell back when Alex appeared in front of me. My hand was gripped tightly around a crystal, and I was praying that it had worked already because I knew that Alex would stop me, maybe even kill me.

Jemma:

All the lights on the walls shattered out then the ones on the ceiling and the floor went completely dark. I was thrown into darkness blindly stumbling over crystal shards. “Adam?” I asked. My knife was in my hand, ready if I needed it. Then I saw part of the wall had caught fire and flames were slowly growing, eating the rest up.

I gave a strangled shriek when I felt a stabbing, burning pain in my back just over my left wing. I thrashed out with my blade and felt it meet flesh. I whirled around to the sound of gagging.

"I warned you" I snarled a hand slashing through the air, leaving a black streak that seemed to suck in light for a moment.

Aline:

I was breathing heavily and gripped the crystal tightly in my hands. The room in the basement was the only one we had enforced against a power like Alex’s. So I was at his mercy. “I did it all for the greater good, I swear to you.” I breathed, trying to get as far away from him as the room would allow.

Jemma:

The flames were growing faster, overtaking one side of the wall. In the flickering light I turned to see Ira collapsing to the floor. There was an unreal amount of blood gushing over her clothes and pooling on the floor underneath her. “No! No!” I screamed, falling to my knees next to her. She was gagging and spitting up blood. I tried to stop the flow with my hand but touching her was too painful to bare. “Adam!” I shrieked. “Adam! Adam please!”

He was by my side in an instant but I could already see the life in her eyes glazing over. “Do something! Help!” I shouted at Adam. He hastily placed his hands under and around her neck to heal her.

Nothing happened. The blood had slowed, she had stopped gagging, she was completely motionless. I was frozen in place. Horror was flooding through my body, I would have thrown up if there had been anything in my stomach. Instead I just tasted bile. I could hear the crackle of a fire, the sound of an alarm, someone saying my name, but it was all from a distance. I was shocked to the bone.

Someone grabbed my arm and jolted me out of my trance. I scrambled backward, jerking my arm free. A cry or horror, disgust, and anger escaped my lips. “No! Goddamnit! No!” I screamed, doubling over. Adam was there he tried to grab me, tried to talk to me but all I could hear were the sounds of my own screaming and cursing. I hit the ground, over and over until I was lifted to my feet and restrained. Then I was hitting Adam in the chest, more times than I could count. He wasn’t stopping me, he wasn’t squeezing me, he wasn’t hurting me, he just let it happen.

I gave up and would have collapsed if Adam hadn’t been holding me. I melted into him and he held me firmly, but not forcefully. I shook violently and sobbed into his shirt. Slowly the sound of the fire alarm filtered into my bubble of sickening horror. The sound of the fire, and the heat finally hit me.

I gave a whimper and pushed away from Adam, nearly stumbling with the force of it. I sniffed and regretted it as my lungs filled with smoke. It wasn’t think smoke yet. But my melt down had been less than ten minutes and the room was already hot, and bright with the flames.

"Oh? You know what life was like in the schools. The cages, the torture, the experiments. All of it was a living hell. You betray those who look to your for protection and leadership." I snarled at her advancing towards her.

Alina:

"I didn't! All I've ever done was to help others. Sometimes that required sacrifices, but small ones to help so many. That is justified!" I truly believed every word I said.

"Small ones? You enslaved a man and then built a prison to keep me in. That is not justified, that is you working for your own goals." I snarled and then grabbed her. I slammed my foot into her leg feeling and hearing the bone break in her shin. "But I won't be the one to punish you..." I said softly, opening the shadows behind her.

Aline:

I screamed when he broke my leg, and grabbed it with a hand while the other one went to try to hold onto him to keep from getting sucked into shadows.

I pushed us both through the shadows, ignoring her broken leg. "In a way...I pity you Aline...you had the right intentions. At one point I could have come to like you. I can even try and look past Adam. But you attacked my friend and built a place to cage me. I cant look past that. Because neither act is innocent or to protect the whole."

Aline:

“It was never meant to be a cage. It was meant to keep you out, to keep you from destroying things.” I gasped through the pain.

"Yeah...I would believe that if the lights were on when I walked in." I told her harshly before shoving her through a portal and right to Adams feet. "A present. Your jailer." I looked down at Aline and shook my head before looking around.

Jemma:

I stared down at Aline, as did Adam. She was crumpled on the floor holding her leg in both hands. Her eyes widened in fear at the fire then her eyes fell on Ira. She truly looked shocked. She tried to scoot back with her one leg, trying to get away from Adam.
“You killed her...” She said shrilly, she was clearly scared, and in pain. I realized she meant Adam. It would be easy to mistake, there was blood on his hands as well as mine, and he had bloody splotches on his white shirt from when I had hit him.
But he hadn’t killed her, I had, and it was Aline’s fault. She had forced this. She had Adam trapped, she had her guy go after me forcing me to free Adam, She brought Ira to this room with her, she didn’t protect Ira from her own powers. It was all Aline.
It took only a second for this to all go through my head, and the next second I was snatching up the fallen knife and lurching toward her.
Arms caught me around the waist and pulled me back. “It’s not worth it. She’s not worth it.” Adam murmured to me.
